my name is grompy catte: Does loading them in ScummVM yield an experience closer to the original versions? A bit like how you can extract the original versions of Monkey Island 1 and 2 from the SE versions.
I have not tried it to be honest, but as far as I understand most of the changes and enhancements are in the engine, not the assets. Since ScummVM rewrites that entirely, I expect the original experience to be very similar if not identical.

my name is grompy catte: I'm sure I saw a post on the company's current blog saying that they intended to include the DOS versions. I wonder if they forgot to request GOG put them on or if GOG forgot to fulfill their request?
Would be nice if they eventually are added again. Maybe ping them on the blog again to remind them? :P

WinterSnowfall: They were not. The publisher has updated both games and removed the DOS versions. On the bright side ScummVM has recently added support for the new releases, so Linux gamers won't have to suffer that much.

What ScummVM does is to use the ioriginal assets of the respective game and ignores the original exe, this is uses their own rewritten engine. Usually/always based in the original code, making inverse enginnering. It focus in modernize the code and fix original bugs.

I'd say that there are specific cases where the ScummVM implentation is incomplete or lacking, in details like not supporting all the original music methods the old game offered.
It is not the case of any Scumm game. They are tested for years and it can be said that ScummVM is the best way to run the games. ScummVM was based in the Scumm engine, afterall. But I am refering to games like Lure of the Temptress and the MT32 implentation, etc.
No. GOG is dead, cloud and streaming are the future of gaming. No, wait...
I hope they are in a company renaissance. It would be awful if the last surviving store with DRM-free games, would come to a stop. I'm very strict with DRM-games. That's why I'm not registered anywhere else. And I don't care if I'm not able to play some specific games (eg. Nier Automata). I would buy them, only if their publishers would bring them to GOG.

lupineshadow: On How about bringing back an A-class title like MTW? (impossible I know because SEGA are b******s)
Metal Tear Wolid?
Magic the Wathering?
Monic the Wedgehog?
Manzer Tragoon Wemake?

Help me out here... :D

Mjauv: And then, we can hopefully have the Syndicate game as well :)
I wouldn't call it Syndicate but I wouldn't mind having it DRM-free. Even better, if the multiplayer could be kept in.

I'm guessing lupine is referring to Medieval: Total War?

I love GOG. Actually I enjoy this place so much and want to contribute. Is there someone I can contact regarding adding Fixes to Games where the Copy Protection is still intact? (After Quality Testing by GOG and the OK from the Rights Owner ofc). I‘m talking older games with no Source Code, not Indies of course. It would make GOG an even finer place to purchase games from. :)

Thanks!

If GOG doesn't, there's another store that might. :)

Like? You talk about Zoom? I think its not the sole decision of the platform but also the rights owner, which makes it a tad difficult I fear. My personal goal is to preserve those games in the best state possible.

Are we talking about ABANDONWARE?

Because I believe this is a word that many gaming stores would very much like not to become common parlance again for many reasons.

But I believe cracking a game which you believe the rights holder has decided not to sell anymore counts as ABANDONWARE.

He's talking about Zoom-Platform.

But in any case I think we can all agree preservation is very important.

Syphon72: I did go off topic, which I apologize for. So this will be my last reply to you. It's not stalking when the Zoom CEO said you work for them in an interview. Your also well know on ZOOM discord and have this on your profile. ( In the pic below) I'm a ZOOM customer allowed to go on their discord. But I guess that makes me a stalker. Right?

Have a good day.

lupineshadow: I think your wording was wrong but not your meaning.

Very hard to prove someone is an employee of some company without having bank statements etc. - even then, it's not conclusive.

However, if you were to say "Linko64 works for Zoom Platform" then from his posts on this forum alone - do a search - it is indisputable.

On-topic:

No. The thread title should possibly have asked "Is GOG reaching parity?" to which the answer would be "No but closer than before".

If GOG really wanted to have a renaissance they would work to resurrect games that are unavailable due to:
* games inconvenient to port to modern architectures/libraries (e.g. Wheel of Time, Medieval: Total War (2002) )
* games no longer released due to licensing (e.g. Black and White, Duke Nukem)
* original versions of remastered games (e.g. LBA(2)/Twinsen's Odyssey

GOG interestingly brought back Wheel of Time which I support, but it is overpriced for a B-class game from its era when there were SO MANY Quake clones. How about bringing back an A-class title like MTW? (impossible I know because SEGA are b******s)

Something like Black and White or Duke Nukem I would buy again even though I own both on CD (somewhere).

LBA/LBA2 seem to be lacking the original DOSBox versions after the game was updated to the remastered versions. GOG is going backwards here.
In Duke Nukem's case, the reason it's not on GOG is thanks to Randy Pitchford, who is a total asshole. It's a long story, so look it up.

Fortunately, you can still get Duke Nukem 1, 2, and 3D on Zoom Platform.

You're right, my wording was not the best. Haha Thank you for the advice.

He said he loves GOG and wants to contribute. I took that to mean he's looking for a job.
