I was just wondering if GoG Connect was even active anymore. Haven't seen anything offered, even if I didn't own it in many many months.

It has always been rare and temporary (usually big sales).
GOG staff did state its no longer an active thing some months back.
I think there was a post saying it was kind of an experiment and now it's over.
Somebody please find it lol

It was rare, now it's just dead and buried. Permanently, just like the fair pricing policy lol

Maybe
GOG Connect offers were time-limited and are no longer supported. Instead, we invite you to try GOG GALAXY where you can connect various platforms to create your ultimate games library :)

Yeah it was a sad day when it became apparent that GOG Connect wasn't going to last.
It must be that time of the month again ... the eternal question about GOG Connect. :)

The short answer is, that GOG have stated that the feature is on indefinite hold right now.

The longer answer, is that it could come back any time, depending on whether they see a promotional need or maybe some publisher/developer wants to utilize it, etc. They've certainly not chosen to remove the link and page.

True. It was a bait for us the customers from back in the days. Now, they have other strategies how to attract the customers.
Thanks for the replies. I was nice while it lasted. I was hoping to get a few more of the games I already had on Steam so I could spend my money on new games on GOG I don't have yet.
I think it died when that bug with Stellaris happened and people who never owned the game on Steam got it here*, while people who actually had it there couldn't.

It probably showed that whatever Steam API gog used for the feature was not reliable and they decided to abandon it.

But I'm making assumptions here, and while I think the Stellaris one was the last, I could be forgetting some other later offer.

* Like me, though I never installed nor played it.

EDIT: Has this theory of mine been disproven by a blue before? I don't remember, but I keep having this feeling that it happened.

I understand that it's not really GOG's fault that it's not a thing anymore but in my opinion, if you legally purchase a game via one platform, you should be able to play it on other platforms as well... but of course, DRM makes that impossible.

Not really.
When DotEmu was around none of the games purchased from them activated any on GOG, and DotEmu was even a listed publisher on GOG, so there were even some chances of that happening.
So unless you count stores themselves as DRM, then it's not really a DRM issue.

Ironically though, some forms of DRM might let you do that.
If you are buying an old-fashioned software activation key, which obviously is a form of DRM, that should work regardless of where you buy it from, assuming that the actual software is completely the same.
That's how many shareware utility things work even today.

No, it’s just simple business practice, I brought some games on shinyloot, should gog chase down the owners from there so they can gift me a copy here if it comes here? Of course not. You as the consumer knows that if you buy something in one place that is the transaction at that moment, and unless specifically stated, that is the whole transaction and you are not entitled to anything else. Connect was a gimmick to try to get steam customers.

This was my thinking too. Might be total coincidence but Stellaris promo was last major Connect event. After that there was I think some small indie game or two and Witcher franchise (but the latter is obviously different case).

As for Connect I never understood how it was supposed benefit anyone, either GOG or publishers/developers. I mean sure I know theory, giving new clients opportunity to expand their libraries and move from Steam, but that's pretty farfetched and with so restrictively limited deals it just couldn't work and in reality was mostly giving free games to actual GOG clients.
