Scratch this post, I'm an idiot and didn't notice the GoG downloader links.

I like it well enough, but there's no real reason for me to use it at the moment. I like the timer - I like the idea of having Galaxy keep track of the time I'm spending in-game - but the GOG game I'm in the middle of right now, Sacred, doesn't launch properly from Galaxy.

You did one better than me. I won't even try it, no interest in the concept. But I can see why the younger generation may want it. Just the fact of it having friends means I will never install it unless hte old downloader is discontinued. not interested in any sort of social media.

Regards
Not using it, not happy about the non-optional changes it brought to the non-optional website.

OldFatGuy: I get that, but just wanted to point out that a vast majority of that re-downloading was unnecessary. For example, see my screenshot. I had 56 games marked as updated (because I learned some time ago that most of those weren't really updates to the games)

Out of the 56 marked as updated, only 6 had actual changes to the games. 6 out of 56. That meant to keep the games themselves updated, it only required re-downloading about 10% of the time something was marked as updated. Of the rest, 2 were for Linux versions added (no need to re-download if you're not using Linux), 1 was for a language addition (no need to re-download unless that was a language you were interested in) and 1 was for a 32-bit patch (no reason to re-download it unless you're using a 32-bit OS). So that's only 10 of the 56 that even had anything at all in terms of changes. All the rest were (I'm assuming here, so someone may correct me if I'm wrong) simply updates to the installer itself (so that when you're installing the game, the ads you see while it's installing are updated).
Yes, of course I knew that an update wasn't necessarily a full update. You had to check and see for every game. how they made you do it drove me insane, however!

Before the site had been redisigned (before the look of the library in your screenshot), all you had to go on was the numbered tag next to the link, 'Account' on the front page to show that you had X number of updated games at log in.

...Then you'd go into your library to click on another link to see which games they were talking about.

...Then you had to go into each forum for each game to actually see if there was a thread pertaining to the latest update to find out what the update actually was, OR there was a super-thread on the board that would show which games were updated + changelogs for that day/week/month.

...then once you decided that you were going to make the download, back to the library!

Lather, Rinse, repeat!

...but then what would happen if you hadn't been on in a looong time? You'd be going around in circles for a very long time, right?

It was just very tedious because you could not just go to the game in your library and immedately see the version number + changelog.

and don't get me started on the posted version numbers as opposed to the internal versions they would name the executable files...

Now I don't have to whine anymore! I'm much happier now that they've begun to straighten this issue out. They are almost there! My opinion is a new changelog should not be hidden. After you select your game,it should be right under a news blog section for that particular product, front and center. They don't need to bury it under 'view downloads' then 'more' then 'changelog'.

phaolo: Not compatible to my CPU, but I could use it in the future.
Do you have an Athlon XP or Pentium 4 pre-prescott (socket 478)? Since Galaxy uses the damn Chrome engine (which removed support for non-SSE2 processors), you're out until they make a patch for it or switch to the more optimized Gecko engine.

I use Galaxy because it's makes things easier.

SpringPower: I was just wondering if I am missing something. I do not plan on using it, as I got rid of all the other games due to having to have their specific program for each company. Just wondering if anyone else was doing the same. Looking at the board, it seems that I am in the minority, and that people really like it. Congrats to GOG for allowing users and non users to still get their games!
I am not using it, don't really intend to do so either.
I understand people being compelled to install it, but it just doesn't hold much interest for me...
Also, from the comments so far, it seems very much a work in progress, so hardly worth the trouble as I see it.

So, yeah, you're not the only one, but I think we're a dying species ;)

Ditto.

It just seems like it's quite far away for prime time use. It didn't recognize the majority of my installed GOG games (possibly being due to older versions), and I don't have the patience or time to replace my currently installed games with newer Galaxy-friendly ones. I also find it easier and faster to access my games through the website rather than Galaxy at the moment. Overall, right now its use is so limited in its current form I know I'm better off with the old downloader program.

Right now I'm not expecting to pick it up again until I perform a system wipe or get a new PC... neither of which are likely to occur anytime soon.
Yes, me. I downloaded and installed it, played a few minutes with it and didn't start it again since then.
To be honest I am tired of being a beta tester in this industry instead of a customer/gamer (whatever the right word). Buying a new game these days basicly means your a beta tester. Using galaxy means your a beta tester. All these early access games and broken games at launch... I grew tired of it so I might give it a go when it's actually done...

I do understand the need for a beta test for this like galaxy but like I said: everything feels like a beta test these days so I am a bit fed up. Sorry gog!
tried it and uninstalled it , still needs a lot of work to be done will give it another go when it comes out of beta
Yes Iwill be using it. I like how it records time spent in game. This is the reason most of my games are currently in Steam as I like achievements and stats. Infact I love stats!!! I have nearly 400 games on Steam and only 70 odd on GOG because of this. My GOG library will probably grow now
GoG Galaxy needs a lot of work and is missing many features but it sure is useful!

Not using it, will never use. Hate invasive client software which every forces down your throat all the time. Don't like the features appearing here either, the whole social crap. However they are getting some good titles in, so it swings in roundabouts.
Without cloud saves i will not use it.
