I use it and I also do not use it. Often there is not much advantage of using the Galaxy client if any at all. I mostly want to play the games. Simply downloading and installing them from the web site might be the easier option.

What I like about the client is that mostly it doesn't get in the way.

But if ever they stop offering the free client-less access to the games I will also stop using the client - I will stop using and buying games at GOG altogether. This is the red line.

Maybe also because of this I will from time to time check the client-less mode, just to check that it's still working.

Galaxy doesn't do too much of anything interesting yet. It's not often that I install or buy something so there isn't too much point.

You bring up very good points and from what I see so far, they're embracing their Web site in their client, not abandoning it. I think it's cool they have an app where you can access their site, but also have other perks that aren't necessarily obvious.

You bring up an interesting point that hasn't really been discussed much that I've seen. Right now as we speak the current Galaxy beta client does not do too much more than you can do directly through the website. The store, chat, download, etc. are available in both. Galaxy currently offers auto-updating in theory superior to the prior methods which will mainly be of more benefit to newer games that get updated regularly, a potentially nicer downloader although that's not fully "there" yet, and game time tracking and a few other things which are all currently in beta and some not working very well or at all yet. But I am using the beta test of Galaxy to well... beta test it - and what I like about Galaxy is not the bits that are there right now but rather what it will be when it is officially released and feature-complete (and hopefully bug free), as well as what they plan on evolving it into and the features it will have later on - that's what I'm more interested in. Right now I'm just using it to do what it's intended to do - help them find and fix bugs voluntarily and maybe even have a bit of fun with it in the process.

Anyone installing Galaxy looking for the full rich set of features they've mentioned over time or looking for something feature-rich as Steam client is going to be disappointed - it is not at that point yet and wont be full featured for weeks/months likely with lots of room to grow. Steam has a 12 or so year lead feature-wise. :)

No, they don't want you to use a client. They offer a client in case YOU want to use it. Big huge difference. :)

Fortunately, GOG didn't call Galaxy "Hellishly Awful Loader"... otherwise I'd start to worry ;)

Partially Untruth, they eliminated old features because of Galaxy, they also made navigation more clumsy to find the links to the downloader, and we will see in he future what will happen with the downloader, we will see... so definitively THEY WANT...

You´re free to use only two of your millions of neurons to arrive to such a silly conclusion, when of course GOG WANT US to use the Client. Other thing is that they CAN make all use the Client without having a massive migration. Obviously.

Because Galaxy is "optional" doesn´t mean that they would not rather prefer us to use it, time, sadly, will make me even more right about this.

I'll wait and see how Galaxy shakes out in the future, but for now it offers me nothing I want. The social features I don't give a crap about, and it seems to refuse to DL backups and extras to a different location that the default (and no, GOG, I DO NOT want all the DLs and installs to default to my C drive).

Anyway, it's beta right now, so I'll wait and see what gets improved/changed/fixed. For the nonce though, I'm not finding it useful.
