I'm dissapointed the PS3 isn't 100 $ yet.
PS4? So uninteresting, I doubt I'll ever get it.

Me too. I will get a PS3 when its dirt cheap to play Demon's Souls and SOTC and MGS HD.
No. Because my last consoles were PS1 & N64. :P I never played with sixth, seventh and eighth generation consoles.
I thought about it, and yes, I'm disappointed. I'm especially disappointed with the loss of movement controls. That was something unique to consoles, and the Kinect had quite a bit of potential. With the technically better Kinect 2 quite fun experiences could be created for the Xbox One, but that never happened.

The other thing that disappoints me is the high price of the Wii U.
I've been disappointed with every console that came after the PC caught up and then surpassed them in terms of graphics, mechanics, etc. etc.

I have to agree with you. I've owned (well, briefly until commandeered by my kids) several console systems and the real advantage they had over a PC was the price of entry and the ability to not have to feed quarters into an arcade machine. But the hardware out there now for PCs is so advanced beyond modern game systems, it's just an obvious choice.

However, with hardware getting cheaper (and outdated more quickly), one can put together a really good PC system which outweighs any console (and has at least a couple years of longevity) for a few hundred dollars more.

I've been really going on the 'cheap' lately and while I don't have a bad rig, I somewhat have the minimum (at least in the video card area) required to play AAA games, such as Witcher 3.

However, now that I am seriously considering using and developing for Virtual Reality, I am considering actually going for a top-end rig, weighing in at just about $3000. I figure I can get perhaps about 5 years out of it, so it's kind of like a "lease to own" for about $50 a month.

One other thing to note, I really don't like the exclusivity of developed games for one console or another. It's a bad deal for the developer as they lose out on selling to all markets. This is kind of the road that Facebook is going down with their Oculus Rift VR, whereas (yes, I'm going to say the 's' word), Valve's SteamVR is making their platform open and applications can work both on their Vive and the Oculus HMDs.

...and in conclusion, let's see if we can get some GOGVR going here.... :)

TStael: Do you really not think controller fan is a gamer?

I think he, she is - because gaming is and should be inclusive.

Or huh?
Gamer muchly for the fan of the control, it is indeed.

But if he is, she is inclusion therefore? Much happy fun time.

Thanketh thee, zoik.
Not the current, because I just bought the PS3 that was dirty cheap.
But I always thought console games are mostly rubbish (save some rare exceptions).

rtcvb32: Super Mario anything is overused. Rereleasing games from the GC days, or remaking mario party/kart isn't much of an advancement/improvement. Of that 24 there's probably several titles that are actually new (6 that I'd actually count or consider).
I think this is an unfair viewpoint. By this credit, any game that is part of a series would have to automatically be discredited as a separate entity. I doubt that Larian Studios would think it fair to say that Original Sin doesn't count as a stand-alone game because it is part of the Divinity series. More to the point, Mario Kart 8 is not a re-release or a remake. It is a sequel; something new that has sprung from a previous iteration that brings its own unique features and upgrades to the table. I will give you that you can't categorize Twilight Princess HD as a new game; it is undeniably a re-release. Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. for Wii U, and New Super Mario Bros. U, on the other hand, are new games. I'm not sure where you are getting six from. Even at my loosest interpretation of "new" there are at least double that.

Mario is overused as one of their main franchises. With no real new mechanics that really are game changers or are effective just SMB on the XXX system, isn't a new game. It's like the NFL games where they put out a new one each year. They update the graphics, they update the rosters, they add or change a few things, update the rules to some degree, but ultimately it's STILL football, and a much earlier iteration of football would suffice.

I wouldn't harp on Larian studios because they haven't put out 20 games of effectively the same thing, except on a different platform, or heavily reusing their characters to make a golfing or tennis game or a Kart game.

I'll quote the list and prepend Another or ReRelease to every game that I think don't really qualify. Mind you I didn't say they were bad games or anything, just I'm sick of hearing about them. I could cut off half the name probably to reduce it to it's franchise rather than it's NEW and 3/7/8/10/whatever and U parts, but best if I don't.
Bayonetta 2, another spinoff Captain Toad, another Fatal Frame, Game & Wario, Hyrule Warriors, another Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, rerelease Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, rerelease Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, another Mario Kart 8, another Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, rerelease NES Remix 1 & 2, another New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, Pokkén Tournament, Splatoon, another Star Fox Zero, another Super Mario 3D World, (Another, although it's a construction set) Super Mario Maker, another Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and another spinoff Yoshi's Wooly World.

That is 24 solid exclusive titles
Some of these I'm not sure how to fully qualify them as I haven't looked individually at what the games were, like pokken, or wonderful 101. But I've stopped caring long ago.

rtcvb32: ... another Fatal Frame
I think there have only been like 4 Fatal Frame games total, since the first one back on the PS2? Unless there have been some Japan exclusive ones I don't know about. Plus, this one seems to be WiiU exclusive? In any case, it looks like a fun game, since it's one of the few ( especially third party ) to actually make good use of the tablet controller.

I believe there haven't been many Starfox games either? Right now, I can only think of three others, and that's since the days of the original SNES Starfox.

You're mostly right about the others, though. They may not be bad games, but they're hardly masterpieces of innovative game design either. I wish Nintendo would dig up some of their older and less frequently used franchises. Or, you know, they could come up with something new, that's not a Mario spin-off. Splatoon is a step in the right direction.

I have no clue, since they started a few years ago with 'let's name our current game using the original name!' which includes Tomb Raider, Doom, Fatal Frame (now), etc etc. it seems like the worst way to do a reboot.

Yes, but StarFox Zero is effectively a N64 remake, with a few new mechanics and better graphics. The other starfox games (SF adventures?) wasn't suppose to be Starfox at all.

Yeah, we can hope. But at this point with them about to stop producing the Wii-U I have no incentive to get one. Bayonetta 2 and Pikkmen 3 are the only two titles I'm remotely interested in.

Still, I can see why fans are excited about it, since it's been many years since the last Starfox game. This and Fatal Frame, as well as some of the others, are hardly on the same level as Super Mario or Pokémon when it comes to sequels/spin-offs.

At least its price is probably going to drop quickly, once the new console is out. But I feel similar about the WiiU. They failed to gain sufficient support from 3rd party developers. Most of their previous consoles had a wide range of excellent ( and exclusive ) 3rd party games. On their own, they're just not able to achieve a satisfying quantity and diversity for the WiiU's software library.
partly.

in general, i’m a fan of playing games on both my pc and consoles – some games just feel more right to me on console, while others belong on the pc. whether one platform family or the other has a technical upper hand doesn’t play a big role for me in that regard, it’s more about the general feeling: sitting at desk vs lounging on the bed/sofa, kb/m vs controller, monitor vs tv, install-and-fiddle vs switch-on-and-play, etc.

and some games just are in their natural habitat on one or the other platform family. fighting games on pc still feel foreign to me. same as the whole business simulation/simcity/anno/civ/etc kind of game doesn’t feel right on a console. everything japanese just belongs on a console.

many of the things i am disappointed in is not limited to consoles: games getting needlessly big, with huge-ass-resolution assets but light on being an actual good game instead of a rehash of a rehash or a self-titled reboot, or a sequel of a spin-off… is pretty much what hollywood’s doing as well.

what i’m really disappointed in is the tons of really really dumb design decisions. the ps4 is a neat enough system, but boy, whoever came up with the idea that you make its buttons so friggin’ small that you can’t even see what symbol is printed on them, just so we can make its exterior into this (admittedly) pretty shape. lazy fucking bastard.

the UI is an unstructured mess.

and a special shoutout to the braincase who birthed the idea that when you put three different surface treatments on something as small as a controller, LET’S JUST PUT THE FINGERPRINT MAGNET RIGHT WHERE WE’RE SUPPOSED TO PUT OUR THUMBS. that was a really smart one.

i don’t give a fuck whether i can play a game on a higher resolution or with 2fps more or this and that shader effect on a pc or not, but jesus motherfucking christ, did they have to make the damn thing deliberately bad to use?

damn kids on my lawn.
Too few new/interesting IP's. Just the 4th or 5th of something I played the shit out of on the last console.

I mean From Assasins Creed 1-4; Revalations and Brotherhood, I've had enough so I dont want or need to play Unity or Syndicate.

Halo 5 or whatever the hell its on now is just more of the same I played when I was still in middle school.

I came up with a list of games that I would want to either buy or rent if I was to get a PS4 tomorrow:

Arkham Knight
Fallout 4 (maybe)
MGS V (Even though I can get the 360 version but for the sake of argument lets put it here too)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (Same as above)
Witcher 3
Bloodborne
Rainbow Six Siege (If the server issues were fixed)
Mirrors Edge Catalyst (Assuming they didn't fuck it up with something like a skill tree, oh wait....)
Last of Us (I didn't get a chance to play it before my George Foreman PS3 Kicked it)
Uncharted 1-4 (Fun but forgettable story that I wouldn't mind going back to).

That's it. Out of all the games released for the console this is all I could find that had me interested. This gens lineup is more repetition than innovation and that's why I'm opting out for the time being. I'd go for it if the console drops to half of what it is now.
