Tekkaman-James: To everyone saying the Wii U doesn't have enough good* games, behold:

Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad, Fatal Frame, Game & Wario, Hyrule Warriors, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, NES Remix 1 & 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, Pokkén Tournament, Splatoon, Star Fox Zero, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Yoshi's Wooly World.

That is 24 solid exclusive titles, and that isn't even counting games that are still to come such as Lost Reavers, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and the new Zelda game. While their third-party support is still lacking, they have really stepped up their support for indie developers this generation. We also can't ignore the Virtual Console which added GameBoy Advance, Nintendo DS and Wii titles to the already vast library of classic games.

*Note: Before you start picking apart this list, realize that "good" is a subjective term. While your opinions and sensibilities may not reflect mine, you can't deny that the games listed in this post are immensely enjoyable to others.
Most of those are without doubt good games, but they are mostly the same flavor of typical Nintendo games, and many of the concepts are a bit worn out, especially when you've been a Nintendo fan for several generations already, and have already played about a dozen Mario games etc.

It's an even shorter list when you exclude remakes/re-releases, such as the Zelda games. And emulation of old games is hardly a reason to pick up a new console. A PC already does that, except better. ( And before someone loses it and has a "but PC emulation is illegal!!1" moment -- I've bought Nintendo games on pretty much all of their consoles since the days of the NES; in fact, I still own many of the cartridges and later GC/Wii disc releases. In other words, no fucks are given. )

The WiiU has a few games I'm mildly interested in, but no true "must-have" titles, or at least not enough to make me pick up the console. A new Metroid ( Prime ) probably would have changed my mind, or that Eternal Darkness sequel, "Shadows of the Eternals(?)", which may never see the light of day. Overall it seems like even Nintendo gave up on the WiiU at some point, and instead focused on their handhelds and next home console.
Not really disappointed of the current console generation. Actually I already was since two console generations. :D
I don't see consoles appealing since the PS2 era, so...
I don't see the point to pick any console produced since 15 years, even for retrogaming.

Can't say this isn't the case concerning the current computer "generation"/state either.
At least that one is better than few years ago, but still.

Regarding consoles, that was so much which has been lost (many genres not represented for decades) and so much which has been improved but is already available in computer gaming (web services, patches). Not interested in motion gaming, VR : I want to play games, not to "experience" them.

And I get the impression (maybe it's only me, or the current information era) that the current consoles' libraries are way poorer than those few decades ago (I am talking about number of games, because I already feel the libraries are poorer regarding the whole gaming spectre).
I prefer PC and I never had any console but I would give a try to PS4.
But I dont have enought money to buy a PS4 and still upgrade my PC and buy AAA games.
I've owned every generation of Xbox, and I was disappointed when I bought a Xbone in late 2014. The games were expensive, and most of them were also available on PC for less. At least I had the Halo-collection though. I bought a few more games for it (Dragon Age: Inquisition, Grand Theft Auto V), and they were good fun, but when I finished them, the console pretty much just collected dust for several months.

When I watched E3 though, I definitely didn't regret buying a Xbone. The exclusives announced there were pretty interesting, and backwards-compatibility is great. My 360 is dead, and 360-games is what I mainly use my Xbone for. Hoarding cheap 360-titles (either used or in digital sales), and being able to play them on the Xbone is quite nice. Sure, there are some framedrops, but I've never found a game to be unplayable. The library of the seventh-generation consoles is pretty good, and now very cheap. I do of course play native Xbone-titles on it too. I usually wait until a month or two after a game releases, then grab a used copy online. Buying used games is one of the best perks of console-gaming, I think :)

I can't speak for the PS4, I never owned any PlayStation-consoles myself. I'm just wondering; Why does PS4 not have ICO??? It's one of the finest games of the PS-platform! :P

I have been a fan since the original Mario Bros on Colecovision and I still enjoy every main entry in the series. Super Mario 3D World was the most fun I've had with a Mario game yet.

That only accounts for two games out of the 24 I listed. You could argue Monster Hunter 3, but the Ultimate version was only on Wii U and 3DS, so I still say it counts as a new game. Regardless, that's still over twenty original games if you take those three out.

If you say so. Personally, I disagree due to the tweaks that Nintendo will make to certain games to keep them 100% playable on modern systems. Adding Wii Remote support to Duck Hunt, Miiverse support to Pokémon Snap and Wi-Fi support to Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow adds more value in comparison to unofficial PC emulation.

First off, Nintendo has supported both the Wii U and 3DS in equal measure this whole time. Second, ignoring the veritable tidal wave of digital releases still to come, there are plenty of solid exclusives still slated for release. Star Fox Zero just released yesterday, and the remainder of this year will see games like Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, Paper Mario: Color Splash, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, the new Zelda title and the untitled Miyamoto game "Project Giant Robot". There are also many multi-platform games coming over the next 12 months, too. I would hardly call this "giving up".
Is the new Zelda supposed to come out on the WiiU? I was sure they'd save it for their new console. Or is the release of that one still far off? And I didn't know about a new Harvest Moon game. By now that itch has been taken care of by Stardew Valley, but otherwise it would probably have been another potential "must have" candidate for me.

Zelda is coming out both on Wii U and NX, or at least it's what all the rumours say.

And you don't want that Harvest Moon game, don't you know what happened with the IP? Marvelous used to develop them, and Natsume publish them in the west. Marvelous owns the original name Bokujō Monogatari in Japan, Natsume owns the Harvest Moon trademark in the west, that those games were published under. Marvelous broke off from Natsume, but because they don't own the Harvest Moon name in the west they were forced to rebrand them over here as Story of Seasons. Natsume, since they own the trademark, are allowed to keep calling their games Harvest Moon even though they are now made by a completely different company.

Long story short, the real Harvest Moon games are now called Story of Seasons, and any upcoming you see with the Harvest Moon name are basically wearing thar series' corpse as a disguise.

Ah, I didn't know about that, thanks for the warning. :P

I really enjoyed the original Harvest Moon on SNES, but didn't keep close track of the series after that. But like I said, I'm perfectly content with Stardew Valley, and it looks like the dev is going to keep improving and expanding the game.

TMS isn't proof of remained commitment, it's already done and released last year in Japan, it's just coming here more than half a year later. Zelda is coming to the NX as well, which is probably what will happen with whatever unannounced project Miyamoto is working on. Harvest Moon is coming to the PC as well, not that you should play it either way. So that leaves Paper Mario as the big upcoming exclusive, assuming it doesn't end up on the NX as well, the sequel to the uninspired Sticker Star. Yeah, I would definitely call this giving up.

Super Mario anything is overused. Rereleasing games from the GC days, or remaking mario party/kart isn't much of an advancement/improvement. Of that 24 there's probably several titles that are actually new (6 that I'd actually count or consider).
I perso really dislike the OP being so petty.

I am am a PC gamer through-and-through, yet would really wish a console gamer to see my gaming joy.

Because, u controller bro or sis - we love gaming! Righgt?

... huh?
I think calling it an X Bone is a little bit funny.

I'd say it's been disappointing, but I'm not too disappointed, I have plenty of PC games and some older console games I still want to play.

Other than maybe The Phantom Pain, but I think I could play it on my 360, and also I'm a little bit metal gear'd out from 1,2,3,4.

Do you really not think controller fan is a gamer?

I think he, she is - because gaming is and should be inclusive.

Or huh?
