Find what you're looking for faster, easier, and with style.

As some of you have already noticed, today we launched an overhauled navigation system for GOG.com. The goal is simple: to make it faster, simpler, and better for you to explore our store and find what you're looking for.

Browsing our catalog has never been easier: mouse over the Store tab for a neat dropdown menu that contains ongoing sales, a detailed breakdown of our games categories, and several top-tier suggestions.
To bring our games closer to you, we've also made several improvements to our search engine, so locating the title you're after should be much more straightforward now. Those accessing our store through mobile will notice that these changes have dramatically improved their experience, as well.

But that's not all! If you want to reach Support, interact with the Community, or manage your Account, you'll find that the intuitive dropdown menus make for a much more fluid experience, saving you time that could be spent playing your favorite games!

Your account name and avatar are now clearly visible on top at all times, so you can tell at a glance if you're logged in and on which account. Last but not least, redeeming gift codes and switching between languages or currencies is now more readily available with no need to scroll to the bottom of the page.

Enjoy!

MarkoH01: I am happy that you finally told us that it was not intended to remove the notificatioans. So no conspiracy theories anymore regarding this. Was it so hard to finally keep us in the loop? Did it have to take several days to inform the community? (You know, the ones who are paying money here to use your service). Still thankful for the reply - I mean it!
Yes, sorry for the late reply from my side. I wanted to get as accurate info on this as possible.

avatar
HunchBluntley: And library (i.e., game update) notifications? Are those part of the ground-up rework, too?
That's a separate topic, and we'll be looking into this as well, but probably on a later date.

gamefood: That would explain why nobody finds the way to your donkey-farm ;)
avatar
tinyE: I wouldn't call three mini donkeys a farm. :P
How about donkey family? :)
shit, the pic is too big.

nvm

Just saw the latest updates (was too busy with things in the physical world). I can't but fully agree with the voices expressing discontent about the good news™.

elcook: It would have to be re-worked with the new navigation system we introduced. And since we decided we'll do it all over again, it made little sense to spend more work on something that we'll kill in the near future.
Really now? That's one person restoring them in a day (along with some other stuff), and I'd bet that Barefoot_Monkey didn't spend an entire day on them.

And after taking your (GOG's) sweet time, the most accurate info you had to deliver was "eventually", and that only because you didn't want to say soon™? I said it before in another thread, I'll say it here too - you guys seriously lack in the departments of prioritising and planning.

elcook: [...] That's a separate topic, and we'll be looking into this as well, but probably on a later date.
A later date than eventually? Ah, that's most certainly encouraging, cheers.
But hey, why bother make it a priority? It's so much fun to dig through one's game library looking for that little blue dot, isn't it? No? Oh wait, I forgot, the community is doing your work for you, and doing a much better job at that.

And seeing how none of this has affected the GOG Galaxy users (based on posts here on the matter), yet the new notifications system will be introduced in the client too, it's starting to look like GOG's treating those using the site via their browsers, not only like second class customers, but also as guinea pigs.

And now for a quick flashback:

Check out Chamb's response below. That was 2½ years ago.

I rest my case.
Well, he never said when, not as much as an ETA, so even if it takes another three years, three decades, or three life times, GOG can claim they made good on their word, and technically it'll be true.
And I'm pretty sure that if one digs through that and/or the NAS threads, they'll find more gems like the one you linked to.

+1 a million times over
Yeah I seriously don't know what GOGs web development team (do it exist?) is doing all day long...

And remember GOG: You have only one core principle left. Don't be stupid and forsake what made you special in the first place. Keep pushing Galaxy and you will lose, not only customers, but your business...

If it's futile to complain here, it may need to be something taken to the game news media, especially a public place like Reddit. This is also one of those times where I feel like saying "Well, vote with your wallet." And maybe that means putting your wallet away (rather than going to Steam) and letting GOG know why. But some people may see that as drastic. Really, it's just about getting GOG to pay attention and shape up on this matter.

I still get the sense that it's the underlying architecture of the site that is causing the woes - it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up - but I may not know what I'm talking about.

And I sense that this new navigation system in the beginning of just that. I think we will be see more of the site overhauled down the road.

As far the vote with your wallet, if you feel that strongly about this then by all means, but I have a hard time believing many people (in the grand scheme of things) are going to really care, especially now that Galaxy exist and a lot of people have moved on to that or are new to GOG because of it. Of course that not a valid excuse, but GOG will surely make what a majority of their users are using a bigger priority.

But yea GOG really has a horrible track record with these sort of things... I sense very little planning, bug testing, time management or evaluation takes place when your a developer for GOG. Releasing something before it's fully done isn't a good way of going about this.

While the I like some of the improvements in the new navigation, I can think of a 100 things that should have taken a higher priority on here than that...one of which is replacing this damn forum that most of hate.
Looks great love the new nav

Do you also love missing notifications for messages and game updates? And how do you like that purple strip?

I don't know if I'm fair to GOG when I say stuff like I did above, but I feel like at this point, the only way GOG will pay attention and change is if their income dips enough and they know WHY it has dipped. Does complaining on the forum actually do much? I don't know, but I get the sense that if people don't put some action behind their words, there's no reason to change. (That goes beyond GOG of course, it could be applied to things like a government's tyranny - if a government has no reason to fear actual repercussions for their actions, why should they change?)

Granted, it doesn't affect me that much (I don't buy many games anymore, other than a few keys to give away, mostly Pajama Sam of course), but if somebody is trying to help out on a game specific forum and there are no notifications to indicate replies, it could result in an important question going unanswered and GOG losing revenue anyway from unsatisfied customers who never come back again anyway.

I actually don't hate the forum in its simplicity, but notifications going away - especially if it's a sinister reason like forcing Galaxy on people (IF THAT WERE THE CASE, I'd tell GOG to PISS OFF) now actually compromises my ability to have discussions with my peeps here.

Well you still technically can see forum and game notification it's just more of a pain... if you go to community -> all forums, you will see forum notifications there still at the top. Game notifications can still be see under library by switching to the updated tab or looking for the blue dot.

The one that really suffers is chat notifications, which is the biggest pain of all. Even though I use Galaxy I prefer using the forum on the site and of course would prefer to be able to see chat messages when doing so.

elcook: And yes, we're aware that not everybody wants to use GOG Galaxy, that's why we're working on a notifications system that will be introduced in both the client and web.
You surely meant "can use GOG Galaxy", didn't you?

avatar
PaterAlf: So why did you kill the old system before the new system was ready? It doesn't make much sense to me. Update notification sure was buggy, but forum reply and chat notifications worked fine.

You may want to have a look at Barefoot Essentials and send your web developers into a dark corner to hide...

No more conspiracy theories about removing the notifications, but there are still those about forcing the use of Galaxy. ;)

That's a fair point, thanks. I've been going directly to the General Discussion forum.
