Pay with one click, avoid additional bank fees, and track your gaming budget!

Today, we're rolling out the GOG Wallet, a highly-requested quality-of-life feature aimed at gamers who frequently face international bank fees, use pre-paid debit cards, or prefer the extra convenience and control over their budget.

The GOG Wallet is designed to be user-friendly and flexible: top-up your Wallet with any amount between 5 USD and 500 USD (or the local equivalent) using any payment method; if you're using a pre-paid card, or you're just a bit short on Wallet funds, you can easily combine GOG Wallet funds with other payment methods during checkout. It's easy, fast, and totally safe.

Additionally, any store credit earned with the Fair Price Package (if a product costs more in your country than in the US, we always make up the difference) will now be automatically added to your GOG Wallet funds. Nobody likes to take time out of their gaming to do math, so we're doing it for you!

To kickstart your GOG Wallet and learn about the details, make your way to <span class="bold">www.gog.com/wallet</span>.
Very nice feature... glad to see this added.
I wish we will able to see GOG wallet codes soon.
Nothing can beat a GOG wallet gift code for DRM-free goodness as a Birthday Gift.

That may be or it may be that GOG doesn't have and might run into problems later. Whichever way, I guess GOG knows already about it, so our task is done.

Epitaph666: we need a FALL INSOMNIA PROMO to check this new feature.

ASAP
With a new wave of classic releases too. Gotta make sure it works after all. :P

nightcraw1er.488: I don't want to have to go through 2step authentication just to check responses on a the forum, or look at game releases. Hence the system is broken. So there is no "option".

almabrds: That's the price to pay if want to make your Wallet safer. It's not optimal, but not the end of the world.
Maybe someday they will add more options, so it will please you.
But considering your point of view, wallet is not really for you.
You'd probably not even use it if they added more security, would?
I wouldn't use the wallet, pointless gimmick for lazy people. However account security is very important. Much like everything here though, gimmicks rule, actual functionality is under the "soon" moniker.

So do you like have to complain and be negative about everything? If you don't like it then don't use it. We don't need your play by play commentary about how clients and features like this are gimmicks for lazy people.

Bet you that you will use the wallet. Hell, you may already be using it.

To be fair, the two-step login is quite good.
I rarely need to insert the random generated code (when I need to clean stuff in Firefox, for example).
Sure, a few times it annoyed me, but if it helps to keep my virtual shelf secure, I'm definitely in.
If you get the email code all the time, you're doing something wrong imo, or it's bugged. I wouldn't doubt it.

There's room for improvement? Definitely.
But you know how long it usualy takes for big changes in gOg website, you have to have patience.
Or you'll get crazy =P

JMich: Two comments on this.
1) GOG states in the ToS that you should be 18 or older to make an account, or ask your parents for permission.
2) Rohan15 (I think) had mentioned at some point that he was unable to buy The Witcher (or The Witcher 2) since his birthday showed him to be underage (which he was). I don't recall any other such incidents, but it may be that GOG already has such measures in place, but we just never trigger them.
Totally forgot about ToS. You're right, since the responsibility of the store/forum usage is charged upon the parents, GOG can't held responsible for anything. Also, thanks for the info about the Rohan15 incident, didn't know about it. :)

Wow. 500 dollar upper limit. I don't know if I've spent that much money since I joined.
Nice idea and all but wont be using it, wallet history is massive already.
Just for adding previous credit transactions....

Smannesman: Isn't just paying with money or a credit card simpler?
avatar
Pheace: There's something to be said for adding wallet if you're expecting to be making a ton of tiny transactions (say in a large sale with changing deals). Some payment methods trigger alerts when that happens.

That or perhaps for some people it's easier to control how much they spend if they front load a wallet rather than use a card that has no (such) limit. Or if you have a kid with an account it's easier to load their wallet.

avatar
nightcraw1er.488: Nice, will enjoy the rise in hacked accounts, fraudulent games appearing everywhere. Because typing 16 numbers each time you purchase is just way to much effort. Another feature that I will never use.
avatar
Pheace: A good point, whether you have your payment info saved or not, a loaded wallet is an added reason to hijack accounts now.
Another reason to use it is to take advantage of currency fluctuations. If I could have added a hefty sum to a wallet before my currency dropped 50% in the past two years I would have bought the games later when the dollar got higher without being charged the equivalent high price in BRL.

It doesn't really help if a currency is stable like the euro, but if there are wilds swings in one's currency against the dollar one can put funds in the gogwallet when it's favorable to use later when it is not.

Thank GOG, "purchased funds will never expire". :P

Some US banks will charge an overseas purchase fee per transaction with GOG. So on an Insomnia sale, for example, 10 purchases would incur ten fees---and some banks will get antsy if they see a bunch of small overseas transactions, because that can be a marker of thieves "testing" a card before making a huge fraudulent charge. If they suspend your card, then you have to call and explain that the purchases were legit.

Being able to put a set amount up-front into a GOG Wallet at the start of a sale would mean your bank will only hit you up for one overseas fee, and your bank won't know how many transactions you're making from it, so you won't get flagged as potential fraud.

Edit: And answer ninja'd. :)
