UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

tfishell: People who like the change are being downvoted on, at least, the first few pages? Why?! For sharing a difference of opinion? ffs...

Ya know what? I don't mind the profiles. Hell, I think they're kinda neat! I think we should have more privacy options, sure, but it's not a huge deal for me. So downvote that you big babies (@those who downvoted the positive comments). :P
Probably the more over zealous and thin-skinned who are opposed. Both sides have some rather dense proponents.

Jeysie: Wait, so... wait. All this screaming about how GOG is baby-eating evil that's going to be sued into oblivion by the EU and insulting me left and right is because... people can see that you own games and play them sometimes? Like, you know, literally every single other gamer in existence? For real?
Called it before I went to bed last night

Irenicus73: So, I was just looking at a friend's profile to see whether they had made their profile private yet, and I found that on their public profile I could see what people on their friends list were playing. Curiously, the person in question actually had their profile set to private when I tried to visit it. So, I could see that the friend of the friend was playing HuniePop, when their privacy settings were set up in such a way where they probably didn't want random people knowing that they're playing HuniePop.

Screenshot attached, with names and numbers blacked out, as not to make any users identifiable from the image.
If that was me, feel free to post the image without the black bars. I deliberately left the game running for the night and set my profile to private to illustrate the point I made earlier, that people wanting to stay private are exposed via the profiles of their "friends".

@GOG: Ticket number is #243362. Do something about this ASAP.

I'm not happy about this.

This is an understatement, by the way.

Words fail me to decribe my dislike of this idea.

Why?

There are those interests in the political world who have always had an axe to grind against video gaming enthusiasts like us. I can still remember the hacks at Washington D.C. trying to shut down the entire video game industry over Mortal Kombat... and almost succeeded. Now, because of what Gog has done with our profiles, anyone anywhere can now all too easily use this kind of information without the benefit of a warrant or court order to access this information to deliberately and intentionally violate gamers' rights and freedoms!

In all Seriousness, think of it!

Gog has just handed to the whole world the means to judge all video gaming enthusiasts based strickly on what we chose to do with our own free time... No oversight. No accountability. No privacy. This is no exageration on my part because it is exactly what happened when a body of unelected officials at the United Nations' World Health Organization on January 2018 defined what they believed constituted "gaming addiction" and then labelled it a "mental illness".

Source: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/video-game-addiction-declared-mental-disorder-who1.4478971

Video gamers everywhere need to protect their rights more now than ever before.

I do not want my personal information being made public.

Shut it off - or you have just lost a customer.

If you had payed any attention to the thread, you'd have noticed that this doesn't solve the problem. You're still visible on your friends' profiles. And from there even with everything set to private, number of owned games, achievements and play time (the latter two only if you use Galaxy) are also visible. The only reliable way to prevent this is to unfriend everybody.

Tell me what is a big deal that FRIENDS can see your game library or how much time you spend playing one of the games? If only friends can see this I don't see a problem here.

Hrrm. Yeah, gotta agree with the prevailing sentiment here that one should be able to hide their cumulative games/achievements/hours.

I appreciate GOG providing privacy settings for some of the specifics, such as the new activity feed, and the old games library & friends list, but missing a beat with the general info was rather silly. They should definitely extend privacy settings to those sooner rather than later.

Alongside this, I'd honestly say that all the default privacy settings should be set to Only Me & Hidden for the most part. As others have already said, Opt-In as default rather than Opt-Out is more ideal for social stuff like this.

Do I want the feature, no. But if others do, let them have it. Stop being assholes down voting those who like the idea. Says a lot about the people using GOG really.

Nope. GOG is still telling the entire world how many games I have bought from them and how much time and effort I've spent with their stupid client and its imbecile extrinsic reward mechanisms (zero).

The really interesting question is, of course, why is the wished-for option to hide those stats the single non-negotiable thing?

And why do people keep telling me it's "unimportant" data when evidently GOG needs it out in public quite desperately?

What? Nooo I just checked your profile :) And its private. I only see that you own games and how much achievements you have. The only one dowside is how much time you spend playing video games. Other than that everything is fine.
