UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

Mr_GeO: Why it has to be ALWAYS HunniePop...

Ophelium: I suppose that HuniePop is considered the most embarrassing game you can own on here.

I proudly supported the Kickstarter, rent it on Steam, own it here and have a hard copy.
Hmm... Did you also downloaded this little file? You know, the one that is adding.. ehem... "extra pictures" ? :>

Because I do. Of course strictly and purely for sciencitific purposes.

Listen, I took one for the team during the Insomnia sale. I look at Jack Keane as a badge of honor.

Hey guys, so I see we're still where we were 5 hours ago in the discussion? Welp

AmethystViper: Claiming to be an adult yet acting like a spoiled brat over this... *facepalm*
Please, folks, stop downvoting this poor sap

You know what they say about arguing with an idiot:
First they drag you down to their level
Then they beat you up with their experience

With this "real mature adult" attitude of his/hers, you can safely bet that real life and karma shall catch up with this person rather quickly, but no teaching will be learned from that...

Yeah, nothing's going to be solved here. Expect a new round of complaints tomorrow.

Eventually, we'll go off on a permanent tangent about something else.
avatar
Alaric.us: Also (and this has no bearing on the matter, I just thought I'd point it out) we here on the forums are such an incredibly tiny (if vocal) minority, it's no wonder that GOG tends to value our input a bit less than we'd like. I say this even though I personally am unhappy with some of severe bugs that are still not fixed.
avatar
CARRiON-XCII: But if that's the case, that really begs the question as to why they chose members from this community, and paid to fly them to their offices in Poland to give them a tour, hear their complaints, and tell them "You guys matter!". Why do that if it's such a vocal minority? It's starting to feel like an empty PR attempt at saving face.
oh wait... sorry but... at which moment did you ever believe it could have been nothing else but just that: empty PR attempt ?

i mean, it was pretty obvious and expected

RainbowDragon: Hmmm... yes and no at the same time: they may now not be able to search for your profile (by profile name or e-mail-address) anymore but they can still hover with their mouse over your avatar and than click on "View Profile" to see this... see attached png file ... and THAT is the problem with the visible profiles in the user forum which I would like to opt out from.
avatar
Cresset: I see, I was under the impression hidden meant the profile could not be accessed at all. At least it looks like it should be simple to add an option to grey out the "view profile" link, like with "wishlist" and "start a conversation".
greying out the link is not enough... you simply has to make the whole resulting page to be empty or void of any info except the username at best

because anyone can get to a profile with the url syntax:
blablablagog.com/u/username

(same for wishlists, but when you arrive on a private wishlist at least, the resulting direct url page is exactly as intended: private, and so, empty... try mine if you wanna check)

cyshtoph: Sadly, it's just that some immature assholes just dance in this shitstorm of a thread, trolling or just being stupid and trying to verbalise the importance of their not caring and degrading those that try to address GOG over this mess.
Not going to be able to take that complaint seriously until you start calling out your side of the issue for using the forum downvote to punish anyone who likes the profile feature:

Breja: As requested, your ticket will be made invisible.
avatar
RainbowDragon: That was a good one :-)! My ticket is now hanging there in their system for 12 hours...

But PLEASE do not disencourage people from sending tickets to support - let's flood their ticketing system with our valuable requests in our crusade to improve gog.com!
- we want private/invisible profiles
- we want an option in our accounts to make classic installers the default download option
- we want you to remove that f*cking captcha (I'm not a robot) when logging in...
- we want.... you know the rest :-)
what about a "we want you to behave like a regular store, and not like a dating agency"

or rather "we would like you to first behave like a proper store before considering to also try to work as a dating agency for those in dire need of such feature on virtually any possibly unrelated online service"

cyshtoph: Do you understand that by making the profile sharing set on default the database has been breached?
You use that phrase yet I strongly suspect that its actual meaning is different from what you believe it to be.

The database is as secure (or insecure) as it ever was. What you are describing is simply scraping plus a bit of data analytics. The problem is, the information that's already available via the forum is probably the most "dangerous" one. Let's say I decide to correlate your username with a bunch of other services. I know you call yourself "cyshtoph" and so I can try to match that and possibly extract some additional information from those services.

Should I find something (email, address, photographs) I might get closer to discovering who you are in real life.

All that said, the amount of games you have on GOG and the amount of hours you played them in total, is noise rather than signal. My point isn't that GOG shouldn't give you privacy — of course it should! What I'm saying, is that this specific circumstance doesn't warrant the catastrophic reaction.

hey it's a good match 3
the voice acting is surprisingly decent from such a cheesy parodic/satyrical wrapping

then again, i wouldnt mind more good/original match 3 or similar games here, like puzzle quest (available for drm free somewhere else) or ironcast...

now you mention it... an option to reset/erase any galaxy-collected data so far would be nice as well

i mean: mentioning the game that was named in this message was, alone, a legitimate reason for downvoting like there's no tomorrow :)

oh and obviously, if one were going to this game only for the naughty bits, it would be stupid considering the naughtier online ressources available through many widely known url or... simply turning on TV at virtually anytime

What is kinda sad in this case is the fact that due to this (another...) GoG shmuck up, the majority of the profiles will be set by pissed owners for blocking everything and not showing any usefull informations. Which in turn will render these profiles completely useless feature, only clogging the servers and possibly adding to the set of annoying crap that the forum is sporting in significan numbers already...

It COULD be pretty nifty feature if done right. Sadly, it's introduction its freaking woooooorld apart from "done right".
