UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

AmethystViper: Too bad some of the users here don't (or won't) get that and will witch hunt you for calling them out on their toxic and childish attitude.

Mr_GeO: You mean the one that you are so vigorously displaying throught this thread?
Him and that other manchild douche that is labeling me as a "bad troll" when he obviously took the bait.

lostwolfe: so, of course, some of us - when this went live - wanted complete privacy.

i wish to remain inaccessible to anyone outside of these forums. i don't mind that you have given me a profile, but i absolutely want privacy settings to make sure no one can see it.
Are you saying the privacy settings aren't working? They've been there since I logged on this morning.

So, I was just looking at a friend's profile to see whether they had made their profile private yet, and I found that on their public profile I could see what people on their friends list were playing. Curiously, the person in question actually had their profile set to private when I tried to visit it. So, I could see that the friend of the friend was playing HuniePop, when their privacy settings were set up in such a way where they probably didn't want random people knowing that they're playing HuniePop.

As far as I can see there is an option not to be found by username or email address but I cannot find one not to be found by email address only. I do not care if I am found by my username but I do not want to be found by email address.

For the record I am disgusted and displeased by this.

Just please stay DRM-free. My definition of DRM-free includes not having to use a client.

That "0 hours played" will remain "0". No to Galaxy, enough with the tracking, and classic installers should be default.

Alaric.us: That said, to some of us it seems that the reaction on the part of some users is so disproportionate to GOG's "transgression", so grandiose and full of pathos, that it seems almost comedic. I for one can understand being annoyed by this if simply out of principle, but if you read some of the posts it would seem that the world is ending because of some vile act of treason, which condemned all of humanity.
Do you understand that by making the profile sharing set on default the database has been breached?
By any web security standard it should be assumed that it could and has been completely scanned. That means someone already likely has following info on almost every GOG user:

- profile name, which is exclusive to the account and often the same as on other social media, emails, accounts or portals;
- number, names and estimated overall cost of games;
- estimated yearly/monthly/weekly timeline of gaming activity;
- game preferences;
- online presence, which is always being shown whenever you visit gog.com, even with galaxy client turned off;
- daily gaming activity timeline down to when you start your PC;
- your friendlist, which you apparently have to unfriend to stop from sharing your activity;
- forum activity, complete with posts, personality characteristics, possible age, language, country of origin;

I assume it might and will be collected until either every person interested opts out or GOG changes this setting to off by default. Sadly, the cat is already out of the bag. Do I have to explain to you how these information can be used? Hint, no, neither you nor me will be stalked. Oh no, it's just the black magic of Statistics, Data Analysis and Profiling will come to play. Some people don't like that, you just don't care, so good for you. Sadly, it's just that some immature assholes just dance in this shitstorm of a thread, trolling or just being stupid and trying to verbalise the importance of their not caring and degrading those that try to address GOG over this mess.

'tis but overreaction my arse.

I suppose that HuniePop is considered the most embarrassing game you can own on here.

I proudly supported the Kickstarter, rent it on Steam, own it here and have a hard copy.

Nothing to see here, everything is working perfectly! Everything is 100% optional and no ones privacy is being compromised! Anyone who says otherwise is a hysterical crybaby and a meany mcpoopyhead!

If it was me I'd be more worried about people finding out I'm using Galaxy.

I think so.

Can you even call it "breached" when it was just opened wide for everyone to see? It's like that meme "your database can't be breached if you just make it public"

With all the updates to Heroes of Hammerwatch, I'm debating on using Galaxy again...
