UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

robertgg: took them long enough.

next time try to ask before doing something that stupid again.
they did.

they just ignored the feedback.

Dogmaus: Can someone kindly tell me how to delete or at least obscure my profile? I can't go through 99 pages of discussion hoping to find out.

EDIT: found. You can't change that from the profile options, but in "account management" => privacy. Everything should be OFF or "only me" by defo.

tinyE: Did you turn if off because I can still see your # of games.
Thank you Good Old TinyE! I had missed the green box! So it was not deactivated, I was only sharing less info apparently.

No thanks to GOG.

while we're talking about this. [this isn't related]

the notification bell being broken for a week really isn't helping matters.

It's working for PMs which makes me think it's not broken; they set it up for only PMs now, and we get the purple dot for everything else.

I can't be sure of that but I'm leaning in that direction.

It's been a busy weekend, and I haven't been able to log in until now. THRILLED to see this has had an effect! Although I have to laugh that there is none of Gog's flowery language, nor even an apology. They seem a bit upset. Oh well. Had they listened in the first place, NONE of this would have happened. Congrats, all!

And for the record: Thank you, Gog, for finally doing the right thing by your customers.
REPEAT: WE ARE YOUR CUSTOMERS.
Please don't forget this simple fact again. You always manage to make life harder for yourselves and us when you do. Cheers.

HeartsAndRainbows: Right now you could disable your profile entirely and either:
- Stay on GOG as a paying customer and hope they will spontaneously develop better ethics. (Plus any form of stress/grief/anger/etc management you see fit.)
- Stay on GOG for future patches and giveaways but stop buying games.
- Download the installers of your entire library and stop using the site - hoping that nothing bad will happen if you don't log in again.
- Download the installers of your entire library and send a ticket to GOG's support staff to delete your account - hoping that the end of your business relationship will stop GOG from doing any further damage to you.
- Other options might be available, but I'm not made out of time and have stuff to do. This would be a job for GOG's paid staff anyway...
Whether you strongly disagree with it or not there's also the option of not giving a crap about what GOG profiles possibly shared. My wife has her whole life on Facebook, on public, and couldn't care less. She's not wrong, her opinions and priorities just disagree with yours. Again don't get me wrong, this was a good update and I have several things set to private, but you're acting like everyone should be upset to one degree or another and that's just not the case.

GOG's forums have definitely become home to very... passionate people on these types of subjects, but how much does that represent their user base as a whole? I would guess very little.

are you really thanking gog that they stopped to screw (rape) its customers until completion this time?

When you get a forum reply a little purple dot should show up next to COMMUNITY.

oh.

oh good grief.

what a weird place to put it.

and since i'm in 800x600, i can't see this, because the default behaviour then is to smoosh community away and turn it into "more."

GOG CODERS GOOD GRIEF.

as a request, i've changed the zoom size of this window, would you mind responding to me, even if it's just: "this is a response."

thanks, in advance.

nope.

but yeah.

that's INFINITELY WORSE than it needed to be. they could just have kept the bell and introduced two colours for notifications.

gog. re-inventing the wheel again.

thanks, by the by. appreciate it.

You might have the option to not care, but I don't. :/

Right now I am not sure what gave you the impression that I thought everyone should feel a certain way about anything. My post was intended as an answer to Joe788ac2's post (post #1977) who was essentially shocked by the update, but also overwhelmed by the length of this monster of a thread.

Like I've already said a few posts back: I don't believe anyone in this thread is representative of a majority, since the majority of GOG's userbase does not use these forums.

Also sorry for hacking your post apart like that, but I'm basically running on fumes by now and wanted to avoid further misunderstanding.
Also also: Thanks for the calm tone. I really appreciate it. :)
