UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

gamesfreak64: Maybe they ask it so they can use it for statistics they collect to see how well the support is rated?
many sites always ask if you were satisfied with the solution they offered by yes/no buttons....
avatar
PrivateProfile: Sure.
But that's usually after they actually did something...

If, on the other hand, their only response under the "Did we help?" - mail was this:

We left your ticket (#******) open, as we're not 100% sure if we were able to help you.

You can reply to this email if you still need assistance.
If your case is resolved you can safely ignore this message, your ticket will close automatically after five days.

There was nothing helpful done.

edit:

And seriously: what are you expected to do after that mail?
Answering, that they didn't really help, but thanx anyway?

In five days, the ticket will be closed automatically, and that was it then.
Oh yes you are right i remember it now when i first joined i had some questions cause i didnt know how some things worked and no news is good news , so if no reply after x number of days close ticket
which can be fully automated using a script, you can automate many things saving extra staff.

Nah, I don't want to search - I'd rather have the evidence for that bold statement to be presented in an easy consumable way.

PrivateProfile: Some links to prove your claims?
no need to .... cause gog shows you are from cairn islands, mine shows as netherlands, many show as USA so we dont have to worry :D
But if you want to search on:
France wants to monitor internet
and replace frane with any country name and see what google can find.

As for threats, those arrived because of lack of border control... so they imported it themselves and now need to tighten security because of lack of control .....

Back to showing redundant user information:

anyway i had many forum accounts, youtube accounts onlinegame accounts and none of them showed my location: Netherlands, publicly in a forum for anyone to see....
i dont see it on steam ( you can hide it in setttings) , not on youtube,i dont know about paradox and other evil external accounts, so i only know GOG shows it and imho showing location doesnt add anything because:

whats the use of showing germany. france. italy, USA, UK, other, netherlands , when it doesnt add anything same with IP doesnt add anything cause dutch location and ip does not mean the owner of that IP is a native Dutch ;D
it doesnt even proof something came from that address cause nowadays badguys can abuse that and do bad things so all those extra data collection doesnt add up to anything usefull not even to show adds in that language for all we know the one might not be able to read dutch....

PrivateProfile: Nah, I don't want to search - I'd rather have the evidence for that bold statement to be presented in an easy consumable way.
While I doubt there are concerted efforts to "remove all democratic rights", there have been some efforts by various parties that undermine the democratic process, at least in Germany. Off the top of my head, their legislative body introduced a law that burdens private companies with duties that only the German judicial system is allowed to have (i.e. explore the legality of an act and punish offenses). There also have been efforts to undermine the voting process - one effort involved mentioning the gender balance of parties on the ballot (which was deemed unconstitutional when the constitutional court in Cologne finally got involved), and at the moment, there's a motion in the Bundestag that looks at ways to implement a binding gender ratio for it.
I'm pretty sure there is more if you look for it. As said, I doubt there a sinister conspiracy behind it, but some political actors seem to lack a firm understanding of what "democracy" actually means.

Anyhow, to be a bit more on-topic: I do hope that GOG is working on some way of addressing this debacle - otherwise, I would not check this thread every few hours. I mean, my plan was to fill up my wallet after all - Frostpunk and Battletech both look pretty sweet. It's not that I want GOG to not react, or that I would be glad to see it fail.
Quite the opposite, in fact: If it wasn't for this regrettable snafu, I would gladly shove some money down GOG's throat.

gamesfreak64: i only know GOG shows it and imho showing location doesnt add anything because:
For anyone interested, the forum user location that GOG shows is a setting that can be changed by the user, and it only effects the seen location on the forum. Many users let it stay at "Other" instead of a specific country.

gamesfreak64: Never heard of (German politicians) .... so i have to Google them first in order to know who they are and what they do
(but I already know for sure, that they want to abolish all democratic rights)

maybe..... but do you believe anything your Govt says ?
Mate - you were the one making up bold claims - not me.
What I believe, or not, has nothing to do with that.
But if you have evidence - then out with it.
(though, going by your last responses, I sincerely doubt, that you got anything backing your claims)

Mueslinator: Off the top of my head, their legislative body introduced a law that burdens private companies with duties that only the German judicial system is allowed to have (i.e. explore the legality of an act and punish offenses).
Well, without anymore information about that bit (what companies, what duties, what makes it German-only?) it is hard to tell the accuracy of your post - but generally speaking: it seems rational to me, that the judicial system looks into what is legal and what is not, and - in case of the latter - punishes the wrongdoer for it.
You see that different?

avatar
Mueslinator: There also have been efforts to undermine the voting process - one effort involved mentioning the gender balance of parties on the ballot (which was deemed unconstitutional when the constitutional court in Cologne finally got involved),
So, that problem was already solved?
edit: btw: I fail to find anything about that 'gender-balance-of-parties' - issue in regard to the Verfassungsgericht Köln.
Some links would be helpful.

avatar
Mueslinator: and at the moment, there's a motion in the Bundestag that looks at ways to implement a binding gender ratio for it.
Well, I haven't heard of that, but given, that the balance between the genders in general is (I believe) 51% female to 49% male - a more balanced ratio maybe wouldn't hurt.
And btw: here, also - I can't find anything about that issue (if I don't count articles from 2005 and 2008)
Again: links, or it didn't happen.
