UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

PrivateProfile: Well, they were in some threads, I saw during the last two days...just not in "the one". ;)
Fair enough, I don't look around the other threads very much so I hadn't seen. Thanks :)

toxicTom: No need pestering the techies with this mess though.
And on that note, no need pestering any "blues", GOG officials & community management personel AT ALL.

They have no choice but to toe the line of the higher ups. This is a nightmare particularly for them, and it's_not_their_fault.

This needs an official statement, an explanation of the present enthusiastic leap into the abyss and the moral values that GOG still wishes to stand for.

I don't see how "a blue" could ever give a satisfactory answer that speaks for the entire company, and they still have business on this forum that is NOT connected to privacy concerns.

So, please. Don't pester the blues at all. It doesn't help.

Which will be worth.. absolutely nothing. I have pointed this out before.
The fact that this was attempted is worrying and anything they have said since this episode about upholding their values is worth exactly as much as when they said they would uphold them before it: nothing.

Yes ^this...

Just imagine you work at some clothing store, your company screwed up royally (child labour, toxic materials, you name it...) and you know nothing about what the higher-ups will do... and then every second angry customer keeps interrogating you about it...

The blues who dared to post here actually deserve a hug...

Please add me to this list. I come here to buy games, not to be profiled and data-mined. I'm not sure I will come back if they backpedal now, but the way things are now I see them as the last DRM-free store I want to support. Heck, I'm considering that Steam is "not that bad after all" now. At least they aren't changing the rules after you're invested in it.

And just in case people need an alternative thanks to Lifthrasil I came across this thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_drmfree_video_games_digital_distributors

It seems the only the way they'll listen to us is if it hurts them financially. So I'm going to do my part.

Or maybe they will still gain more by selling our data than they lose with the absence of us privacy radicals? If that's the case they'll only get worse and I really don't want to be around.

Too late for that. By now Steam has a better privacy policy than GOG.

They don't need to waste their keyboards away assuring us that they will uphold their values. They need to explain what those values actually are. Because, evidently, the community has a different idea of those values than GOG. :)

But, yeah. I want to see that statement. GOG has pulled off quite a bit of shit, but they've never been at odds with their community this much and with so many individual community gripes tied to the same social media push.

If that statement isn't worth a damn, at least it will serve as a catalyst in some thought and decision making processes on the side of the community.

Depends, how you define that (and how far your definition goes):
Steam can (and will, as has been proven in the past) change the games, you bou....sorry, rented there, after you paid for them (remove songs, etc).

But they have done exactly that before. It meant nothing then, why would it mean anything now?
