UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

Having built a database or two I realize this project has most likely been ongoing for 6 months / year. Even if they give me a "button" to hide / turn off my data display or even my profile page . . it does not mean that the tracking and data accumulation will stop. I have written code too many times to hide data fields "if" . . . to think not seeing data means it's not being collected.

They've lost my trust it seems and I don't see how they can get it back. I reduced my purchasing to nearly zero when I realized the galaxy code was in the "classic" installers "just in case" I decided to use Galaxy. If I deleted the galaxy.dll the games would not run. I stopped updating my existing installers so I could run the games on my older boxes if I wanted.

Good luck to both sides . . I think it's time for me to move on as I just can't seem to care nowadays.

Will miss my friends. Miss the old GOG as well.

Hope those who want profiles get them and those who don't can turn them off. =)

Well as a shop it's kind of understandable that they collect...the number and list of games you bought. I am somewhat sure that it's not 6 month or a year old but that they collected this data since Gog very first day...

I understand peoples complaining that this data is now displayed and that they cannot fully hide it, but complaining that an online video game store actually keep track of the games it sold and to whom...

No, I have always expected GOG to keep accurate records of my purchases. I do not expect / want them to display the data or share the info or other data the 'new' profile tables will accumulate with anyone. Surely this horse has been beaten to death several time in this thread?

Anyway, my decision will not affect you or anyone else. Thank you for thinking I am naive, nobody has done that in a while. =D

Why?

You're just a lowly scrub with 89 games, and only 2 friends owning 39 and 8 games, respectively...

priestlyjudas: Eh, I feel like the community aspect is one where Steam is way ahead, no surprise considering it's a much older aspect. It's also my main motivation for mostly buying on Steam - talking to people about games, while gaming feels much better than just gaming. Fite me, troglodytes! :P
We've been talking about games here for years just fine without profiles.

Time for a new board at GOG or they are going tits up. If you screw with your USP, you are losing your significance and you will lose to competition.
Maybe GOG has been bought by EA?

Anyway, I couldn't be bothered to write a new e-mail, so I have just forwarded my support ticket to privacy@gog.com and I advise everyone to do the same,
It only takes a few seconds and it might just flood the new channel they have just opened. Open up the floodgates, but keep this civil and factual. The last thing we should do is look like a bunch of hooligans. Make the message clear that our wallets will be closed to them until they fix this train wreck. Contacting a few game themed media channels won't hurt either.

I already posted this earlier, but in case it got lost in the thread, here it comes again:

Just a reminder that if you're making a decision to stop spending money here or spend significantly less, email Support with your reason(s) and what they can do to bring back your business:

That was back then, when they seemed to care for their customer base. Since Galaxy they want the same people who buy from Steam and no customers that have principles.

It's not going to change anything, i think. They knew how some people will react, and they still went ahead with their plan. There's no way back now. We can expect anything from GOG from now on. (My humble opinion)

To be honest I'm struggling to understand why GOG has chosen to alienate a proportion of their customer base in return, for as far as I can, no benefit to them whatsoever. They could easily (and correct me if I'm wrong here) provide the option of not displaying the number of games, achievements and hours played, without in anyway affecting the people who do want to make use of their profiles.

The only reasons I can see is that either they didn't foresee the backlash it would cause, in which case they don't seem to understand a proportion of their customer base and why they buy here. Or they did foresee the response and they just don't care. Neither of which exactly fill me with confidence for the direction GOG could take in the future, and I say that as someone who feels very positively towards GOG.

In my humble opinion, if there is one area GOG has struggled in recently it's been in communicating with its users. Maybe it's just how PR operates now in modern companies; say nothing, tough it out, don't say what you really mean or gloss it over with a few insincere phrases. Personally, I hate it and I'd much rather businesses were upfront about the decisions they make and the reasons behind them.

Make sense. But i just simply lost trust in GOG after all this.

Even if things go back to normal, by some miracle, I'm still not going to trust them. And wont be buying any games from them.

They tried this scam today, they will try something else tomorrow. That's how i see it.

It seems that many people are backing up their libraries now, I only get 118kb/s Download speed right now.
Feels like a bank run. It's time for GOG to pay attention.
