Connect your Steam account and grow or jumpstart your GOG.com library.

UPDATE: Last chance to grab your games from the original list! Make sure to get them until June 8, 12:59 PM UTC.

Want more games? We've got more games! Three new titles are now available through GOG Connect:

- Kona
- Defender's Quest
- Door Kickers

You can get them until June 13, 1:59 PM UTC.

Today, we're launching a new program called GOG Connect. The premise is simple: connect your Steam account and add your eligible games to your GOG.com library.

Whether you're checking us out for the first time or have been with us for a while, GOG Connect gets you DRM-free versions of your games, digital extras, and a whole lot of freedom of choice (like whether you go with the GOG Galaxy client or not). It gets you our take on game ownership, and we say: why buy the games more than once?

Thanks to our awesome partners including Deep Silver, Harebrained Schemes, Jonathan Blow's Number None, TaleWorlds and more, you can now add more than 20 games to your GOG.com library if you previously purchased them on Steam.

The full list of games will always be available on connect.gog.com, starting with these and more:

- The Witness
- FTL: Faster Than Light
- The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut
- Galactic Civilizations 3
- Trine Enchanted Edition
- Saints Row 2
- Shadowrun Returns
- The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

While GOG Connect will stick around, the available games will come and go. These are limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers, so stay tuned as we bring new titles onboard in the future (and grab your copies before they go away)!

For a bit more library-building, a bunch of our favorite titles will also be discounted up to -85% all week long, including The Witness, Saints Row: The Third, System Shock 2 and more. You can check out all the deals here. The sale will last until June 6, 12:59 PM UTC.
Send all the people asking and/or complaining about GOG Connect to this thread:

>> Why you can't connect to get your games from Steam. <<

I wrote up an explanation. Hopefully this will reduce the number of identical useless threads we got.

I found the problem!!!

As soon as the Steam API reaches the GOG domain, it keeps bursting into flames and turning into a black dust that quickly blows away.

Oops! Looks like the hallowed ground here is too strong for Mr. Gaben's evil API tendrils.
Exciting news. I can't wait to try it out!
In regards to this part:

"If a game is removed from your Steam account for any reason, such as through manual deletion or a refund – we reserve the right to remove the games from your GOG.com library."

I have a few questions/concerns. First of all, does this only apply to games added to a GOG library through GOG Connect, or can games you've bought from both stores be affected?

I can understand why refunds would be a concern (otherwise you could buy any eligible game on Steam, get the GOG version free, and then refund the unplayed Steam version) but why does manual deletion matter? If someone decides they don't want the game in their Steam library and deletes it, why should that affect their GOG library?

Is there a time limit for when a game can be removed from the GOG library due to something with the Steam one? It sounds like a year could pass and then GOG might suddenly remove a game from your collection if something happened to your Steam version.

How does GOG even keep track of what's going on with the Steam account and its collection? Will GOG be constantly monitoring linked Steam accounts to make sure we still own games on there that have been redeemed with GOG Connect?

To use GOG Connect, you have to "make sure your Steam Privacy Settings & Profile Status are set to public". What happens if you set them to private after redeeming games through GOG Connect? Will they be removed because GOG can no longer verify that you still own them on Steam, or what?

I honestly regret linking my GOG and Steam accounts, but unfortunately it's permanent (for some reason) so I guess it's too late to change my mind about it now.
Great idea, GOG! :)

I'll keep trying over the next few days - but it looks like the website for me is just stuck with "Oops, Something Went Wrong" message for me. :(

I'd guess their website is getting hammered. :(

Depends on the definition of "manual deletion" I guess, and whether the deletion was initiated by you or by Steam.

I mean, the whole idea is this: GOG, in conjunction with the game devs of the listed games involved, are doing something huge for us. Don't screw them over. Don't connect and get your games on GOG and then rub your greedy little hands together and request a refund from Steam in order to get a completely free game.

I wouldn't worry about the rest of it; I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
Great to see this extension of the reclaim program. A few times I have wished I could have purchased expansions and DLC on GOG for games I had purchased on Steam (and I ended up not buying anything because I would have had to re-purchase the base game)

Some flaws though:

a) I have 7 steam accounts (and growing). It's the only sane way of managing the Steam Family Sharing feature (allow my children to play one game while I'm playing a different one). The limitation of one permanent single account won't really work for me.

b) The "Something went wrong" messages. I hope this is a temporary glitch. I also hate the "apple-style paternalism" of "users are too dumb to understand messages with tech content, just say something didn't work". Wake up! Perhaps there are many users not very tech-savvy but it is plain wrong shutting out those with tech knowledge from fixing our own problems AND from being able to help other "less techie" people.

That's not a "flaw".
Can new members use this feature? For example, a Steam user registers today and gets GOG version of his/her Steam library.

Yes.

You should have been more patient and thought a bit more about it; it's serious stuff, after all! (I'm only saying that because I am often impatient. ;P )

Perhaps there is still a chance that they will un-link your accounts if you haven't activated any games, yet? Perhaps there should be a "Oops, I did not think of all the consequences it would have. Allow me to get back in time, please!" one-time option if you still haven't activated anything.

A better system, in my opinion, would have been to ask for game keys, instead of linking accounts, like the reclaim system. But I just checked on Google, and it seems that not all Steam games have CD keys (or at least you can't see them), so it wouldn't really work.

vsr: Oops, something went wrong...

please fix this.

cecil: I got that same message :-( I hope if it takes several days to sort out we don't lose out...
Me too. I thought this would be a good, quiet time to connect, but seemingly not.

Hi Cecil.. <waving>

PS. Thanks to GOG, although I only have one game in the mix. And thanks to Alaric for the thread and clear explanation of the problem.
