Today, we're launching a new program called <span class="bold">GOG Connect</span>. The premise is simple: connect your Steam account and add your eligible games to your GOG.com library.

Whether you're checking us out for the first time or have been with us for a while, <span class="bold">GOG Connect</span> gets you DRM-free versions of your games, digital extras, and a whole lot of freedom of choice (like whether you go with the GOG Galaxy client or not). It gets you our take on game ownership, and we say: why buy the games more than once?

- Refund game on Steam.

- Even if GOG removes the game from your library, you have a drm free copy of the game on your HD. Without the need to torrent it.

Am I wrong?

Is something being done to prevent people from doing this?
A shorter version - buy the game on GOG and refund it. You get the same thing, or I'm missing something? It's being a cheat either way.

Well, it did finally manage to find the games on Steam, but when I click the add games button I just receive the usual message:

YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE BEING CONNECTED
Due to exceedingly high demand this may take up to several days, please check back later. Thank you for your patience.

Then still receiving it when I come back

I don't believe this is in GOG's hands. Steam's API is what is preventing its users (GOG in this case) from seeing the game libraries of private profiles. And this is a good thing, because otherwise anyone who read a JavaScript tutorial could view your profile despite you explicitly setting it to private.

What is the benefit of doing it gradually? It's not like a release, it's a simple convenience which helps people to switch from Steam to GOG if they need.

So, for now, it's normal for nothing to happen?
Thing said I had 7 games, I clicked the button....now it's saying MORE COMING SOON and no games were added to my library.

I imagine they will add games as fast as they are able to convince publishers to go along with this (heavily unprofitable, but awesome) plan.

I think I understand what he means.

You can get the game off Steam, transfer it to GOG, get a refund off Steam, and then download it from GOG before they've had a chance to remove it from your library.

Seems a bit convoluted, if the original intention was to pirate it anyway! :-)

That's why a posted the whole thread. Sure it's possible to do what he's suggesting but I think that thread shows why it really shouldn't be of vital concern.

There is a million ways to steal games and I would imagine more than a few are easier than that. NOTHING is perfect.

Right, but Witcher 2 is their own game, so no reason to delay it really.

I do believe you're probably right -- I was originally thinking about the old Humble links, but they only had to check whether you had a certain game in your library, never mind if it was set to private, or not.

All this is just a waste of chat space. The idea right now does not work.
Although it now has come up with several games in my library able to be added, i click add to my account and they dissapear with added to you GoG account but there not there. Log out come back several hours later and there waiting to be added to my GoG account again, rince and repeat. Same thing.

Now you are only allowed to use the refund option so many times on steam before it can be blocked from doing so. Patch's and game updates are always done with teh games on GoG so removing steam game and trying to play that way through (if lucky) would 1 flag you and your details and 2 eventually the game wont work without needing to be patched.

Pretty awful feature. Surely there are things which are much higher priority? Come on!.
