NOTE: I want honest answers for these questions and no pointless Galaxy hate comments like in other threads, those comments don't help me at all and I want to try and give Galaxy a fair chance despite my reluctance. With that said, here are the questions...

Will Galaxy mess up my current separate offline installer installs by trying to update those automatically?

Will Galaxy try to overwrite modded versions of games via updates?

Can I turn off auto updates for games in Galaxy?

Can I import my current offline installs to Galaxy or will I have to start from scratch?

Any major bugs at the moment?

Anything else i'm missing I should know about?

Thanks in advance for answers.
Will Galaxy mess up my current separate offline installer installs by trying to update those automatically?
Yes and no. It may try and auto update some, particularly older installs (though it may not even recognise some older installs) but you can cancel these before anything is downloaded if you don't want it to.

Will Galaxy try to overwrite modded versions of games via updates?
Again, yes and no. If it detects a modded game it will probably think it needs updated and will overwrite it, so you'll need to turn auto updates off for that game (or all games)

Can I turn off auto updates for games in Galaxy?
Yes. You can either do it globally or disable it on a case by case basis. Unfortunately if you wanted to have only one or two games auto update you have to turn all the others off (if you have auto updates disabled globally you can't re-enable individual games)

Can I import my current offline installs to Galaxy or will I have to start from scratch?
Most of them should work, but it does depend on the games and the age of the installer used. There may be some work arounds to get older games in but I don't know myself.

Any major bugs at the moment?
Nothing that I've noticed, but I'm not really a heavy user, I mostly just install games through it at the moment.

Anything else i'm missing I should know about?
It's actually pretty good, despite the hate it's getting, I much prefer it to Steam for example (and not just because you can do things like turn off auto updates or rollback games)

I see, much thanks.

The oldest installers I have are from 2013 (aka after the 2.0 updates).

Only real thing i'm dreading is if I have to reinstall the mods as some of those were a pain and i'll have to try remember how I did those lol.

As noted, just turn off autoupdates. Last time I tried Galaxy, it was set to ON by default. Not sure if it still is, so just make sure you watch the install and when it completes check if it's defaulted to on for autoupdates.

As a side comment: I don't think Galaxy itself is receiving the bulk of the hate: it's the way GOG is implementing the push to 'try' it. But that's neither here nor there for this thread, apologies.

If you have any installed games prior to installing Galaxy, these won't be picked up automatically by the client. Any recent offline setups installed after Galaxy will be recognised by the client.

If you will want to add your currently installed games (or some of them) to the Client after installation, you will have to pick Scan Folders option in Galaxy. To add only some and exclude others, check game folders first for goggame-*.info files. Removing these files should be enough for Galaxy to 'ignore' the game during scan.
( ^ that's also why some of the older installers aren't picked by the client and cannot be imported. They lack necessary .info files)

To stay on the safe side, you could install Galaxy, change its options before first login (turning off autosaves, setting default folders etc), check your existing games for .info files and adding these that you want to the Galaxy one by one.

Be mindful though, that adding a game via folder scanning *will* trigger an initial update to the latest available version, regardless of auto-update settings.

Crap, so i'm gonna have to reinstall mods and patches anyways if I import installs. Wing Commander 1 & 2 were probably the biggest pain to setup and import save files to and the ones i'm dreading. Eh, may as well get it over with.

Will do. *gives thumbs up*

That's not good, precisely due to the situation Haydenaurion's in. Is there any plan to change this behaviour? Would be good if it would obey the user's settings re autoupdates.
One more question, is it possible to have a Galaxy version and non-Galaxy version installs of the same game at the same time or does Galaxy automatically write to the same default directory? (i.e. "C:/GOG Games")

If the game doesn't make registry settings, you could probably install it to a different folder/drive. Not sure what would occur if it makes registry entries though.

You can probably do this reliably with DOS games but I wouldn't tempt fate with newer games since nowadays a game will store its saves in a wholly different place than the actual executable (hello games that store saves and such in My Documents!). That's not even getting into the registry and the like.

Both WC1&2 are DOS(Box) games and thus keeping them intact should be fairly easy.
Just drop me a PM tomorrow if you have any questions / concerns and I'll walk you through a backup or some workarounds to keep both versions functioning.

Gotcha. Could you see about putting up the latest version of Galaxy on the download page? Seems it's not up: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_galaxy_official_discussion_thread/post389
