When did ES games have narratives, interactive or otherwise. Story consists of you arrive as prisoner, go kill <insert beastie>.

I would think that adventure games would be the obvious target here, they are almost soley narrative, with some puzzels, followed by RPGs.

you are half-way there, I do not celebrate that aforementioned series but rather, lambaste it for the short-comings that any passer-byer can make evident such as you have.

I am very partial to The Sims but, I am encouraging Dwarf Fortress here

it may seem insurmountable but, what is oft lost in all the noise is that failure is the best option.
