The first "The Nail" was a good Elseworld story. But it got so much praise, that I was a little disapointed when I finally readit. If you can get a cheap copy it's well worth reading, but you shouldn't exect a masterpiece.

And please skip the sequel. It was pretty bad.

PaterAlf: And I think you should also check the wiki for The Return of Donna Troy. I don't remember exactly how important this story was, but I think the played an important role in the Infinite Crisis (I might be wrong though, it was nine years ago that I read it).
I don't think it was important at all, since I never read it, and never eve noticed missing anything. Then again Donna is a character I'm barely familiar with at all.

Gonen32: I'm thinking about adding one more book to my order, maybe JLA The Nail, you know anything about it ? Sounds interesting to me.
A good Elseworld, one of the better ones in fact (most were just kinda silly). Well worth reading, but not exactly some "best of DC" you really NEED to know.

If you want a really good Elseworld story, I would recommend Golden Age by James Robinson and Paul Martin Smith.

Anyway, It's not on stock on BD (where I'm ordering from).

I'm thinking about adding Batman: Hush or The Filth.
The first looks like a really good action focused Batman story and second is... Well... Morrison.

Hush is ok for the action and Jim Lee's drawings, but it's kind of like a stupid summer blockbuster movie. No substance to it at all. I would not recommend it. There are much better stories with Bats, even of the "action" type. Under the Hood is far, far superior in every regard. Ten Nights of the Beast is a classic. I'd even recommend War Games, though I know it's rather divisive.

Just whatever you do, don't buy Hush Returns. It's just terrible. I'm rather amazed something this crappy even got published.

If I have to choose between those two, I would take The Filth. As much as I dislike Morrison's superhero books, his creator owned stuff is normally great and for me The Filth was no exception. Have only read the first eight issues though (the series was cancelled in Germany).

The Hush isn't bad, but overrated. It's the comic equivalent to a Hollywood blockbuster action movie. Jeph Loeb tried to squeeze every important Batman villain into the story and the conclusion isn't really convincing. It's fun to read though (especially if you like Jim Lee's artwork).

He tends to do that a lot. At least in Long Halloween and Dark Victory the result was much better. The Public Enemies storyline form Batman/Superman series on the other hand is probably the most ridiculous example. I think he was going for some world record of how many villains from the entire DCU there can be in one story.

Well, there is nothing wrong with a blockbuster action movie, sometimes it's good to turn off the brain and have some fun. How would you rate The Long Haloween (if you read it) ? it sounds interesting but...

I was VERY dissapointed of Year One so after reading it I've promised myself that I will never buy any book based on hype alone (although that's why I read TDKR which is AMAZING in my opinion)

Oh god, don't remind me of The Public Enemies. I think I stopped reading Batman/Superman at that point.

Another Batman story with lots of villains that worked very well in my eyes is Dead Reckoning (Detective Comics #777 - 782) by Ed Brubaker. But that's not really surprising. I think I've never read a really bad book by Brubaker. Even when he has a bad day, he still is better than the average writer.

And that was the first story of that series :D But you made the right decision. Somehow it got even worse after that. That series was probably the worst work from Loeb I know of.

Ok, I checked and I quit reading after The Enemies Among Us (#33). I knew it was something with enemies ;-). But the series was very bad the whole time.
