ReynardFox: In retrospect I don't think Crystal Skull was a good movie
You only realised that now? ;)

HunchBluntley: Because the person playing Indy is too old for that kind of role (I'm not against "old people kicking ass"-type movies, but that's not the kind of series this is); the filmmakers' judgement is highly suspect after the last movie (alien bullshit doesn't belong in a series mostly inspired by 1930s action-adventure serials, and the idea that they seem to have been trying to set up Shia Lafuckingbeouf as Ford's successor in the series is mind-boggling)
But in this situation, the filmakers' of the last movie will have little to do with this one, and Shia LeBeouf will not be present.

Niggles: You only realised that now? ;)
I actually enjoyed it at the cinema, but little by little the more time passed after seeing it, back-of-the-head niggles (no pun intended) started to develop and eat away at me.. the fridge logic (also no pun intended) wore off and I started to wonder if something was wrong...

I picked up the Blu-Ray not long ago, expecting to watch what I still believed to be a dumb-but-still-mostly-competent movie. Instead I was all "Oh.".
oh well, another "transition" movie from old actors to new (bad) actors.
But exactly like the latest starwars, the new actors are totally shit: daisy, boyega, laboeuf? Are you kidding me?
decent series (indiana better than starwars imo) ruined by disastrous choices as lead roles and catastrophic acting.

for what is worth I liked crystal skull, blanchett was great as usual, but laboeuf was laaame.
Lets pray George Lucas is not writing it. Prey.

Mutt swinging on vines like Tarzan anyone? How bout the deadly being killed by lots of ants... terrifying, that is the bottom of the barrel of exciting cinema deaths. And aliens do not belong in an Indiana Jones movie.

Spielberg is way past his use-by date. Bridge of Spies, massively boring. War Horse? Skipping it. Tintin, inept, so much for Tintin's come back.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was devoid of the pace and personality of the first three.

What the? As many issues as I have with Spielberg lately, Tintin was glorious.

I thought it was lacking any fun or pace or interest or personality for a cartoon movie. Where is the second one from Peter Jackson? He was so bored he probably doesn't even want to do it anymore.

But to each his own. Never read much Tintin so I may be off, could have nailed it. I didn't think it was any fun like great cartoon movies like Toy Story, Kung-Fu Panda, Rango, Wall-E, The Incredibles, Aladdin

I struggle to see how anyone could find Tintin boring, fun and charm are the characteristics I felt the film had in spades.

As a big fan of the originals, I can tell you Tintin was definitely highly faithful to the source material. Also Peter Jackson was only one producer, he wasn't that involved with Tintin, he was too busy milking The Hobbit for all it was worth. Now there's a man who doesn't understand pacing.

Fair enough, maybe I should give it another go on Tintin, perhaps I was incorrect. Peter Jackson was supposed to be directing the second one as far as I heard.

Also the Hobbit was not totally Peters fault, he was pressured into Deltoro's scheduale by the film company it turns out. He can't be blamed for that one. Still, King Kong was pretty terrible, and that was all him.

Maybe it's an already established affinity for the characters in Tintin, but I absolutely adored the film. To me it felt like a return to form for Spielberg, full of warmth, charm and visual splendor and IMO, it is a far more genuine Indiana Jones style adventure than Crystal Skull could ever hope to be, and I put that squarely down to the extremely talented screenwriters involved.

Spielberg knows how to direct, but it's been the writers who've really carried or dropped the ball in his recent filmography. I place the blame for Crystal Skull squarely on George Lucas and David Koepp.

As for Peter Jackson, I certainly don't hate the guy but even when not influenced by others, he really does get overly self indulgent, as is evidenced by, as you said, the likes of King Kong.

ReynardFox: the fridge logic
I have never been a big fan of the "boat parachute" from indy2, but.. for some reason I didn't hate the "fridge bunker" in indy5 as much as other people (even if overall I disliked the movie).
Indiana Jones has never been exactly a realistic series lol.

Tintin was a clusterfuck of 3D action scenes, without even a proper ending O_o

When I use the term fridge logic, I don't actually mean the fridge scene. Fridge Logic is a general term for logic failures, plot holes and small things that make no sense that a movie will intentionally (or otherways) gloss over and are generally not questioned by the average moviegoer at the time. The kind of thing that later on, while say, getting a snack from the fridge, your mind starts to mull over and goes "wait, hang on a sec".

Well. I guess after Star Wars 7 this had to be done.
I'll keep my expectations low.

Ah.. I didn't know that term. O_o
Btw, why did you choose it for a movie with such a perfect literal usage.. XD
