Within the shadows, you’ll notice a nightmarish narrative unfold – a chilling chronicle of Kairn, a tormented soul driven to commit unspeakable acts of patricide. Consumed by an insatiable craving for power, he revels in the taste of human blood, surrounded by his ravenous minions – your survival will hinge upon vanquishing this abomination of bloodlust, and the hordes of flesh-devouring creatures he commands.

You’ll embrace the role of any of the seven distinct races, as you partake in numerous scenarios designed to challenge your strategic acumen and decision-making abilities. Embark on this cosmic odyssey, where the fate of galaxies rests in your hands!

Dark Legions
In this strategic fantasy game, you’ll have to prepare yourself to forge an army that embodies the darkest realms of fantasy, as you summon up to 50 formidable beings to serve your cause. You’ll get a chance to select from a diverse roster of 16 distinct characters: Wizards, Trolls, Demons, Orcs, and Illusionists are but a glimpse of the varied choices that await you, each possessing their own arsenal of unique powers and abilities. Once your unholy army will stand ready, the time will come to unleash chaos upon the battlefield with a clear objective: locate and annihilate the opposing legion's master, seizing ultimate power for yourself.

Veil of Darkness and The Summoning look like the sort of thing that'd have been great for their time but aging poorly, but in principle something like Star General is quite timeless... But glancing at a couple of reviews I see that it doesn't actually have a campaign? I just see it said that there are set individual scenarios and a randomize campaign mode, create a random galaxy, select enemies and try to conquer. So nothing like what Fantasy General had in its campaign? That'd suck...
YES YES YES!

Was waiting for those! So happy with this release!

Especially Star General and Dark Legions (bought those two)

For those interested - good news, Star General is provided in both Windows and DOS version (like it was for retails version of the game)

GOG.com: Four incredible classics from SNEG!
Nice!
Classics are always welcomed!
Two of the four are sure purchases. With one other I have to get more information first.
I have only played Star General before and it is a fantastic strategy game. An optional 4X game and one of a handful with the ability to play both space and land battles.

That's the correct usage of the word ability. Unlike say "ability to use offline backup installers". Which is a BS way of trying harder to push the client over the offline installers.

Anyway, the game is fun, good and very different from other similar games.

A bit disappointed the soundtrack is not an extra with the game, though I can't say I am shocked.
Back when the game was new I approached the composer asking him about being able to purchase a copy of it and he asked me for like $100 or something to burn a CD of it. It's almost 25 years so I can't remember the details.

Anyway2, great game, great soundtrack.
Thanks for bringing it here.

Now, where is Allied General and the first Panzer General?

In that regard it is more in the style of 4x games like Master of Orion with the gameplay of Panzer General. Honestly I have my doubts about how the game could have worked with canned campaigns like Pacific General or Panzer General. But it could have been an interesting addition considering the multilayered way of gameplay. It could have worked like some kind os story tutorial mode.

It could be said that the game only offer the scenery content available in the res of the series but I do not believe it is accurate. The random mode and the set of scenarios are proper sandbox campaigns in their own and usually bigger and longer. A different approach.

Personally I like the style. Maybe the second in my list, being the Fantasy General campaign mode the best, Pacific General closer.

Every game in the series tries to make things different to depart or enrich a bit the "puzzle strategy" nature of the original.

If it means anything to you, the tracks are placed as OGG files in the Music subfolder, and within the .bin/.cue disc file in the CD subfolder that the DOS version uses.
Terraisian Service Force Reporting for Duty! SIR!!

Veil of Darkness is my favorite DOS era game that I've been playing for years even though I could never get the sound to work. Hopefully I have better luck with the GOG version.
