It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

MaGo72: Exactly Gersen, it was a "classic" installer doing something Galaxy related which made the installation fail.
avatar
BKGaming: No it wasn't. Based on what the OP actually stated it seems he or she was actually using the Galaxy installer not the classic installer due to a glitch on the website or a glitch due to whatever browser scripts the OP is running. The site must have been displaying the wrong info for whatever reason.

Why are we still arguing over this? Mystery was already solved by the looks of it, only thing left to answer is why it happened...
avatar
PetrusOctavianus: I just double checked, and it seems there are indeed two different installers, but to get the true classic installer (whih is 0.1 GB smaller) you have to click on More and then choose Classic Installers, despite the main download page clearly saying, in large friendly letters CLASSIC GAME INSTALLERS.
That's rather sneaky...
avatar
BKGaming: This would clearly indicate some form of a web site glitch because the true classic installers are ONLY found under the MORE button when a Galaxy installer is added... they don't display classic installers by default unless no Galaxy installer has been added or unless a script is used (like the one adaliabooks offers on here).

This massive hyperbole around anything Galaxy related is getting real old around here...
The lack of GOG doing anything about galaxy is getting real old around here...

timppu: Do the installers you downloaded first have the "(g)" in the filename, meaning they are the Galaxy-embedded versions?
Yes.

PetrusOctavianus: [...]

Thiev: What's your browser version and / or any script-related extensions or userscripts?
It's certainly not as designed, and looks more like a problem on browser side. Especially that at the moment there is no way for 'classic' installers tab to show as default, unless you're using, for example, Adalia Fundamentals.
Firefox 54.0.1 (32-bit)
Ad-Bloc Plus
Greasmonkey (threads with "giveaway" does not show).

Agrilla: I just did download a new version of BG2-EE-Clasical using and install it so see what wold happen.
For me it did work flawlessly and I can not see any kind of Galaxy-infection on my computer.
So I cold not recreate the error described by the OP. (hmm what is OP short for ? Ganni1987 thx for your answor)
Neither could I.
Nothing has changed on my system the last 22 hours, so obviously GOG has changed something, without saying anything in this thread.
That's just great; now I am deemed as "untrustworthy". Like I somehow doctored the screenshot I posted?

More like your browser glitched. Then again, you sure are trying real hard to make GoG look like the bad guys here, so now that you said it...

Yep,as I have never seen you nor met you or anything then I don't trust you:)

Hickory: Classic does not mean 'as they were before', not by any definition of the word. You are confusing 'classic' with 'classical'. They have entirely different meanings. Classic means timeless (judged over time) or typical of its kind.
avatar
madth3: From GOG's staff announcement, this is what they called classic and is what they promised.

1. We clearly noticed - yes, we did - that many of you prefer the old installers (let’s call them “classic”) and prefer to manage their growing libraries manually. Therefore, once we roll out “new” installers with the option to install GOG Galaxy, we will add a separate download of the “classic” ones. Going forward we will offer the option to download “classic” installers whenever a game is offered via a “new” installer.
avatar
madth3: I don't know of any more recent clarification about it.

Should GOG offer an installer without absolutely any trace of Galaxy?
I'd like but I never expected it based on their communications.
It should not even be a question; its their whole friggin point and reason of existence. They should be ashamed to no end that this is even a problem.

PetrusOctavianus: Greasmonkey (threads with "giveaway" does not show).
Does this apply to *.gog.com/forum/ or to *.gog.com/ since this could explain why you are getting the classic blurb on the galaxy installers? Not sure about it, just a theory atm.

Only GOG/forum.

PetrusOctavianus: Yes.
Do you still see this issue, or does it seem "fixed"? As I mentioned, at least I don't see the same problem on the BG EE download page (with the latest Windows Firefox).

EDIT: Ok I see this is being investigated already with e.g. JMich.

I couldn't care less, as long as this "trace of Galaxy" doesn't increase the size of the installers a lot (like the embedded Galaxy-installer does), and does not affect the usage of the installer without Galaxy. My main concern with the Galaxy-embedded installers all along has been the increased size, extra 120MB per game, not cool. Plus, how are they going to keep all those embedded Galaxy installers up to date, ie. will they keep changing all the game installers every time the Galaxy client receives an update, or what? (that would trigger e.g. gogrepo.py to redownload all those installers, all over again, as it detects they have changed).

If these small Galaxy stuff (dll?) in the current classic installer is stuff that e.g. makes it easier to import one's installed GOG games to Galaxy, then I can fully understand why GOG wants to make their offline installers Galaxy-compatible in that way. I recall seeing complaints in the forums why Galaxy import doesn't detect the installed GOG games, so I presume these "Galaxy changes" are related to those.

Who knows, I might need to use it at some point as well, e.g. I've been playing the single-player part of some game without Galaxy, but then decide I want to try the online multiplayer part of it as well (which needs Galaxy). I certainly would hope that Galaxy would detect that game at that point.

Hickory: Yeah, a year. Very "classic".
avatar
JMich: The year is the time I am certain of. It could be even more (as many as 3 years, from back when Galaxy was announced), but I wanted to give a time I know as correct instead of one I think might be correct.
What constitutes classic is a different debate, as is what the installers should be called.
To hell with "classic". Give me "clean", or give me Steam. lol

Seriously, tho.

^ This will be terrible as long as Gog won't add a stub..

Nah, only thought of a case where a script interfered in places it shouldn't, but PetrusOctavianus says that's not the case. No further ideas from me as to why that could have happened.

Oh...the HORROR!
GOG GALAXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
NO GALAXY, NOOOOO
GET AWAY FROM ME NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That's what you all sound like.

Drama fucking queens.
I managed to reproduce similar issue - not the exact one OP has experienced, but a reverse scenario:

- Going to Account -> Library -> Game [with both installer types]
--- Galaxy installers are shown as default, clicking on a link gives you a *_(g) file
- Switching to Classic installers via 'More..' option:
--- Classic installers message is shown, clicking on a link gives you a normal file
- Closing game view and opening it again (without reloading Library page):
--- Galaxy installers (name + message) are again shown as default *but* clicking on a link will give you a classic file instead

By all accounts it looks like a website glitch, but we are still looking into the problem mentioned by the OP. If any of you guys is able to find the steps to reproduce it then we would be very grateful if you could let us know, for any game.
@ Thiev:

I tried the above and I can confirm I got the same result.
