I installed Baldur's Gate 2 EE, using the classic game installer, which "does not include Galaxy".
Yeah, right!
What do you call this, then (see attached)?

And to make matters worse, when trying to install Galaxy the program messed up my desktop by scattering the icons all over the place.

Was this just a glitch, or has this become common GOG practice now?

I came across this problem with re installing stalker shadow of Chernobyl, had to re select the option of no galaxy and re download the game again to fix this issue but never happened again.. check if it does it too all your games? maybe gog f'd up on one of the install files and has to re upload the game again for non G users.
Galaxy is becoming a PITA..

Anyway OT.. why you don't use tabs in Firefox? O_o

The game did install and it works, so it's not a critical problem.
But installing programs on you computer without your permission, that's rather rude and offensive.

As for the tabs, old habit.

Did you, by any chance, had GOG Galaxy installed on your computer (or maybe had some some past GOG Galaxy installation leftovers)?

At the first glimpse, it looks like as if the installer was trying to add the game into a detected GOG Galaxy installation and failed (hence launching GalaxyClient.exe) rather than installing GOG Galaxy itself... Also, game installers for BG2 EE do differ in sizes between "new" and "classic" installers, so what you're reporting shouldn't be the case...

Nevertheless, as I may be wrong and there could be a human error somewhere, I've forwarded this to our Product team to double check everything.

Never installed Galaxy.
The previous game I installed was BG 1 EE, but I didn't have any problems then.

I just double checked, and it seems there are indeed two different installers, but to get the true classic installer (whih is 0.1 GB smaller) you have to click on More and then choose Classic Installers, despite the main download page clearly saying, in large friendly letters CLASSIC GAME INSTALLERS.
That's rather sneaky...

you'll get used to it.

I did.

It sucks but it's not Armageddon and I'm not going to leave GOG over it.

That error is from C++ 2015 missing in your OS. Download It Here and see if that pops up again.

as a note this pack is needed for their games to work right (from what i can see) its not a galaxy thing.

What's with all the opened windows? Good god, I'm amazed your computer can run like that! Horrible thing to do to your desktop.

Why would it do that if it was a 'classic' installer?

As I already said I don't want to install Galaxy, and the game works fine.

Amazing how much excitement open windows can produce.

Interesting. The missing VC has nothing to do with Galaxy, but the message clearly mentions Galaxy. I'm starting to think GOG can't do much adequately besides getting the rights to old games to sell. The implementation of anything is always messed up or shady.

I had the same message with the Fallout 3 classic installer, but I don't remember if it mentioned Galaxy.

This was clearly your issue then, and you can bet it wasn't intentional. For some reason the wrong info is being shown to the end user. What you downloaded was the Galaxy installer it seems.

But even with the Galaxy installer you can easily opt-out of installing Galaxy via the installer options. You choice should be remembered (if installed on the same PC) for future installs as well in case you grab the Galaxy installer again (for whatever reason).

Because what Petrus actually downloaded was the Galaxy installer not the classic installer based on the above. And if you have Galaxy already installed Galaxy will try to import compatible games automatically.
