Now it's time to leave the capsule, if you dare.

The Solus Project, a captivating experience of solitary exploration and survival upon a deserted alien planet, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

It's 2183 and humanity is looking for a planet to colonize. Your mission goes awry and you soon find yourself alone, stranded on a mysterious planet with no signs of life. But then, who put up those grandiose structures and why do the alien remains look so awfully humanoid? You need to shelter yourself from the temperamental, constantly shifting weather, collect items, and figure out what happened to the inhabitants of this desolate planet, while looking for a way to rescue yourself and contact your people.

The Solus Project focuses on the solitary aspect of the journey but developers Teotl Studios feel like it's finally time to share the almost-finished game with their fans and get some useful feedback on the features and the overall impact of the experience. They expect to release the final build within three months, but during that time they will keep polishing and unlocking content in an episodic manner until the whole game up to the final chapter is fully playable. Unless that menacing space tornado reaches their offices earlier than expected.

If you want to save Earth, surviving and deciphering the secrets of a mysterious alien planet will become your own Solus Project, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% discount will last until February 25, 5:59 PM GMT.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
Looks interesting wishlisting for now.

drealmer7: did you look at it at all, read anything at all?

those answers are easily figured out on your own

omega64: I missed the release date stuff, sorry about that. "single player exploration driven adventure with survival elements" doesn't really tell me much about the actual gameplay though. Unless I missed something obvious again.
1. These responses are why people tend to rage and say 'google it', because people come to the conversation completely unprepared. If you are too busy to look into something, because you are on the phone,* you are certainly too busy to respond to the thing in said thing's forum/announcement post. It's just really, really bad form.

2. Unmechanical was a fantastic little game, aiming at a particular mark and hitting it out of the park. It was a game that opened up my eyes to whole other genres of video games. I refused to purchase The Ball because of TripWire being the sort of company they are (longstanding issues as a Killing Floor player, here) and I didn't realise that Teotl Studios developed that game. Colour me an idiot and soon rectifying that mistake.

On the strength of Unmechanical and their recent, quality development of Unmechanical: Extended, as well as the videos I've watched, I am very willing to give this company my money on an Early Access/In Development title.

1 I know sorry. :P
I won't do it again.
It was just that I normally watch videos to get an idea of what a game is. I just couldn't at the time.
I had time to read responses on the forum.

2 I didn't know these were the Unmechanical devs. Unmechanical was pretty good. :)
Looks very interesting, wishlisted for now.
Bought; experienced developer, almost finished game (fingers crossed!) and exactly the kind of game I was looking for.
Having just watched the trailer vids, I like the look of this.

There are a tonne of sandbox survival games out there, so I'm happy with this being a more linear, story-based experience. I like that "repetitive resource gathering" isn't part of the gameplay, for the same reason. I'm partial to sci-fi themes, and the game looks *very pretty*. I also love the voice and intonation of the narrator they picked for the vids, but I assume he's not in the game.

If the game were actually finished, it'd tick all the boxes. ^_^

As for the "what kind of game is this" question:
From what little I've seen, I don't think I'd class this as a "walking simulator". And it's definitely not crafting survival. It seems to be following a more similar trail to Kona Day One, rather than The Long Dark. A kind of first-person adventure game with survival aspects. I wonder if there are plans for a GOG Twitch stream featuring it...

The videos are, to me, really neat. I saw this first on, I think, PCGamesN and when I read that they developed Unmechanical I instantly had faith that they would do this right. The Steam page says that it will be in EA/ID for about 90 days and, combined with what else is listed on that page, that's a strong statement about the team having their shit together.

There are few companies that I would say that I actually trust and, for whatever reason, they're all more or less independent: Frictional Games, Amantia Design, Teotl Studios, Terrible Posture Games, Harvester Games, and Destructive Creations. These companies have either delivered strongly with their lone title or have a history of doing really good work and if I heard that one of them was making X game I'd be ready to make a pre-order or Day One purchase.

My tag is TheBitterness for a reason, yet I'd not hesitate to purchase a game from these companies that I thought was interesting.
The screenshots look stunning, I do enjoy a break from all the sandbox games out now with a linear game. wishlisted
Oh uh ah erhmm.... It sure looks nice.

At least you won't have to wait long for release with this one.
There will be a stream of The Solus Project - with the devs - on GOG's Twitch channel at 5PM GMT today (i.e. approximately 1h30 mins after I made this post). Tune in if you're interested, or if you want to ask the devs some questions! :D

www.twitch.tv/gogcom

(I posted this because, for some reason, this stream isn't on the schedule :(
This looks like the game i've been waiting for. I've been playing it for a while and so far it holds up in terms of the expectations i had going in.

Just needs a way to store documents so that they can be browsed at will in order to be near perfect for me. TS, please make it happen :)
For anyone who has played both The Long Dark and The Solus Project, I'd love to hear some comparison/contrast.
