How far will you go to survive?

The Long Dark, an immersive, existential struggle for post-apocalypric survival, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Darkness. Silence. The sky flares wildly. It's a beautiful, quiet apocalypse as humanity falls to its knees. Technological might laid to waste completely: the lights go out one last time, the electrical hum of machinery replaced by birdsong and... nothing. No energy, no food, no warmth. What does the future hold?

The Long Dark is a first-person survival simulation that'll force you to think, and challenge you in unique ways: a frozen wasteland and the disinterest of Mother Nature may threaten your survival, but it's your own fear, greed, and humanity that'll become your worst enemy.

The Long Dark is all about solo survival in an unforgiving environment, but Hinterland Studio Inc. are also planning a Story mode with a narrative framework for the players' struggles. Until its planned Spring 2016 release, they will also be tweaking the mechanics, items, and overall environment, in order to achieve the perfect balance between punishing realism and a rewarding sense of accomplishment. Hinterland Studio Inc. invite everyone to check out the game's official website and stay up-to-date on all the news from development.

Let yourself weaken and any small threat may lead to your death. You have to earn the right to survive The Long Dark, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 33% discount will last until February 11, 1:59 PM GMT.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
This is one of the few "Early Access" titles I really wanted to see here.

Now you guys just need to get your hands, er... GOG-Bear paws on Grim Dawn. :D

Tannath: This is probably the first of these games in development that catches my eye, but I'll pass until the finish product comes along.
Agreed. This does look good. But I won't buy anything that isn't final. I see 22cans is trying to get us all spending money on another Godus game too. I feel sorry for anyone who gave them any of their hard-earned

Oooooh so torn!

I've been drooling / waiting for this game ever since I saw it in a game mag about a year or two ago. SUPER excited it's coming / is here.

BUT... do I risk burning out on the game, while enjoying the sandbox survival aspects, before the "full" / "real" game is released? Or do I hold off for the complete release and dive into the campaign / story mode.

Instant gratification for something I've been looking forward to, or holding out a few more months (?) to play the campaign (while I like sandbox survival mode for stuff like this, generally I do prefer the more "directed" experience provided by a story).

Regardless, AWESOME to know this one is on the way / already here! It was one of my bigger wants to show up on GoG!

Up to you. I think you should wait till it's complete, played to some extent after release and patched up. I have it on steam and my experience is that it has a random CTD issue, i've tried all work arounds and the support has been "meh" to say the least. Despite submitting a number of output logs to the devs showing a consistent issue, no-one knows how to fix it, no "yep, we know what the problem is" nor "this is the cause and this is how you specifically fix it". Radio silence. Like they've wiped their hands and shrugged. Other players, luckily, have had zero issues. Just annoying imo

So yeah, up to you
Good to see it here :).

I originally backed it for its story mode but I got hooked up on sandbox in the meantime. It has a great atmosphere and if you aren't tempted to play exploration game which tries to discourage you by placing aggressive wolves around like me, there is a mode which is basically only about exploration and keeping basic needs sustained.

It would be nice to see Linux release here as the one I have been playing is very stable.
I was a backer for this and was extremely excited when the first build came out. It completely floored me with the atmosphere. And ever since then every significant new build went from strength to strength. One time, I got lost in a blizzard and it was one of the most emotionally intense experiences I ever encountered while playing games.
Hello , I got problem with run this game.. After lunch I can see only mouse coursor on black screen... Win 8.1 GTX850M... any ideas?
What's the deal with this game, none of the screenshots show a UI, does it have an inventory etc?
The Long Dark... a pretty, uh, "non-suggestive" name for a di... I mean, game. Yep, much like Nuts & Milk ;D

Yes, the game doesn't have UI. An icon alerting you about your needs pops up in the corner sometimes and props appears when an action is available but that's it.
You have however the invetory (e.g. http://games.mxdwn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/13FEB15-TheLongDark5.png), journal, stats of your needs and some other basic infograghics.

i just want to be sure, but if i buy this i will also get the full game whenever its released right?
Game looks pretty great! I'd love to see the Forest here too, and several others of the "survival sandbox" genre that has popped up over the last two years or so.

Correct.
