These corridors sure are spacey.

StarCrawlers, a turn-based dungeon crawler set in closed space(s), is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac with a 25% launch discount.

Dimly-lit cantinas in the outskirts of lawless space is when you can usually find the most skilled, specialized mercenaries. Also the best music. And if corporate espionage is your game, you know you'll need to put together a band of the most shady-yet-reliable people available. Those intrepid enough to hunt for bounties, undertake sabotage missions, and navigate the dangers of space while keeping you in good standing with all concerned parties.

The band of Juggernaut Games is also focused on keeping all interested parties happy. So they keep adding more missions, random encounters, diverse environments and tons of loot to their procedurally generated universe, taking into account their community's input along the way. For the remaining months that the game will stay in development, expanding the universe of StarCrawlers and fleshing out the campaign with more dynamic content are their main goals. That is, unless a band of ruthless mercenaries infiltrates their offices and wipes out all that precious code!

Pit your StarCrawlers against the randomly generated hazards of corporate warfare, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% discount will last until February 09, 1:59 PM GMT.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

Sogi-Ya: am I wrong to look at the screen shots and say "so, it is like a low quality, sci-fi themed, clone of Grimrock?" while arching a weary eye?
I remember someone make a comment along lines of "Grimrock in space" :P

From the look of things, it's rather "Grimrock in space plus Final Fantasy Legend". Which is something I'd reeeally want to try.

As to the visual quality, from what I've seen, it's well within the scope of the budget – and occasionally better.

I hope the mechanics are on par.

Maxvorstadt: Hm, I watched the first part of a let`s play (beta 2 build), which looks very interesting.
Does anybody know if the game runs well in 1280 x 1024 resolution?
For the moment there is no 1280*1024 in the Graphic option, the nearest resolution > 1280*960

They will perhaps add it later.
Well, it`s not really that "Grimrock-ish", the combat reminds me more of LoX than of Grimrock, but it looks interesting.
Like several of you I had this wishlisted back when it was included on the "upcoming" games feed last year; however I'm not purchasing it until it's complete. It's still on my wishlist as a form of bookmarking, and I'm really interested in the premise, but after backing the disasters that were Spacebase DF-9 and Interstellar Marines I'm not throwing money into unfinished projects anymore.

I'd much rather have this game stay on the "upcoming" wishlist instead of the devs making a grab for more funds by moving it to the "in development" section, though I know that they're trying to raise more development funds. But still...the move soft of cheapens the game somehow...
Really looking forward to the full game. I was excited about it ever I saw it on Kickstarter. Was hoping for a bit more Phantasy Star II + LoG and a little bit less randomly generated, though. Will still buy the game for sure.

I could just buy the game right now and then just download it when it's done, right?

Yeah, some people already rated it, a few lines of comment are always cool to read.

I 100% understand you, but Kickstarter is no way in dev/EA. With KS you knew you had a risk and should have pledge only if you wanted support the project, not if you was expecting a 100% or even 50% satisfying result. There's really a misunderstanding of what KS are, it's a faith bet, and more importantly an action to encourage a project or a specific game genre.

With ID/EA the picture is pretty different but you just need apply a caution because there are many different type of ID/EA. Some ID/EA aren't different than a KS, when you buy it, you get just a draft with plenty bugs and a very incomplete gameplay.

But some ID/EA are pretty different, they are released with a very complete and already fun gameplay, what's missing is more contents like new areas or more variations. They are usually easy to identify. For sure such type of ID/EA is more rare but it's already known that it's the safer way to succeed an ID/EA, otherwise bad feedback at release of ID/EA hurt too much the game and updates or final release can't fix it.

I have tested for you ;-P the ID, The curious experiment, and it is in second category, if that's your genre of game, you can definitely try it already, it's a great game with a full fun gameplay.

The only strange aspect is sometimes some intermediate version of such ID/EA will be more fun for you than final release. I had this myself for some games, but it's never been such a big deal.

I wished GRK was turn based. :-) Well TB with good combats.

Vythonaut: Also, please guys, don't turn each "In Dev" release thread into a negativity contest. I also don't support early access on GOG, but I see it wrong to make such negative posts, full of "colorful" language (as mrkgnao said) or sarcasm or whatever.

Vainamoinen: Indeed. I really don't like the idea, but I don't want to be responsible for the "In Dev" idea failing, so keeping the negativity in check in announcement threads is a good idea.

Unfortunately, it goes further than that, as developers like Double Fine or Telltale seem to have "neg followers" who are hell bent on basically bringing GOG down in the first place.
I'm not sure to understand your comment but it's near a sensible subject so I'll try guess. :-)

I totally don't care of DF9 or any space station simulator and at reverse Massive Chalice was definitely in my game genres. And on forums I had to suffer an insane anti campaign to hurt the game to punish the dev. But those <insert violent insults> fanatics also hurt hard the players as me that was enjoying the game and that was trying have fun to argue and comment about it in forum.

I still had fun with the game despite some clear weaknesses in some gameplay elements, but all those punishers punished me a lot too by killing any exchange about the game.

I'll keep it quiet here, but now on SR I never miss an opportunity to smash any Steam user I identify in this category, it's from "paladins" to "trolls". At least I gained that, troll mock and ridicule paladins and trolls is a pretty fun game.

Harzzach: especially when Early Access is done right?
But only when it's done right. Not all of the "additional benefits of the GOG.com way" are available for everyone.

I also had this game on my wishlist. Adding it as a game in development now reminds me of two problems which also affect released games, but are much more severe for games in development:

First problem: Sale discounts and game availability

"14-day refund policy -- You can download, play, and refund any game in development within 14 days of purchase - no questions asked."

Imagine a game in development is offered with a timely limited discount. But the game (temporarily) lacks the version for one of it's supported operating systems (most likely the Linux or Mac version, I guess a game would not be offered when the Windows version would be missing ;).

Then as a non-Windows user you have the choice either to buy the game discounted and have nothing to test during the 14 day refund period or to wait until the version for your operating system is available again. But then most likely the discount is gone and you have to buy the game at full price. Not very fair.

Or did I miss that the 14 day refund period for games in development only starts when the game version for your operating system is available? ;)

Second problem: Game updates and rollback

"Rollback in GOG Galaxy -- Keep playing your game if the newest update is not doing it for you, or revisit historical version snapshots."

Only Galaxy allows you to efficiently handle games in development (easy updates of installed games, rollback to older game versions). But Galaxy is not available on all platforms.

Come on GOG, now that we have more and more game developers which do support Linux as a platform, do your homework. Please give non-Windows users the same support for games in development and deliver Galaxy for all your target platforms.

It's very disappointing that a software which (hopefully) has been designed for multi-platform support from the beginning is still not available on other platforms after being available on Windows for more than a year.

Niggles: SO anyone bought it yet?. Comments?
I did.

First of all, it's working just fine. I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs yet.

Weapons and armor are keeping it simple, which is a good thing. Once you've understood what shield charges are, the rest is basically explained on screen. Character types feel different even though they have the very same HitPoints per level.

There's at least a rough story element rich in ridicule – StarCrawlers is definitely an over the top space opera.

Environments will repeat practically immediately, and I really hope there are some surprises in store in higher levels. I'll have to admit, I favor games with strong stories and least repetition, which clearly isn't the concept of StarCrawlers.

I'm not content with the gamma settings, as many environments appear mostly bright white on higher levels. Unfortunately 5:4 resolutions aren't offered (it's an odd screen format, but heck, it's a Sony).

To sum up, I do like it, but I'm uncertain whether I'll put a two digit number of hours in it.
