<span class="bold">Starbound</span>, a sandbox action/RPG about settling down on a proceduraly generated universe and exploring its infinite randomness, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac and Linux with a 33% launch discount.

You are a lonely alien, cast away on an unknown planet after your ship and your spacefaring dreams got severely damaged. Now you must start anew, build yourself a home, blast any rude natives to smithereens, and perhaps gradually establish your own colony. Much like the crafty alien protagonist, developers Chucklefish are building and expanding Starbound one feature at a time, shaping it up with the help of their community. I'd sure prefer having it on GOG, but Humble DRM-free will do.

There hasn't been one since 2013... I'm not going to hold my breath that they'll put one up in the near future
So much potential, but I picked this up so long ago via Humble, and it's still not finished.

I'll keep an eye on it, and gladly repurchase here if I ever see it advance anywhere resembling a finished product, but it's been too long for me to just assume these guys are ever going to have an actual release of this game.

So, they no longer advertise the Humble version as DRM-free, but backers will still get it DRM-free...somehow that doesn't inspire too much confidence.
hans't this game been in development for well over a year? ok 10 dollars. i dont midn supporting but...i dont think it will be finished. and they already probably made there money

that's why i tend not to support games in development... sometimes i think it's a hoax. and there have been cases where they do that take the money and run

10 bucks in 10 bucks, well i guess 15 when not on sale

does GOG curate these games to make sure the developer is not gonna take the money and bounce?

Try three years. But anyway, it's a good game. And sure, they change stuff around all the time, sometimes for the worse sometimes for the better, and it seems it's going to be in development for a while longer before they sort it all out and decided what to keep and what to cut, but it still is a good game with a lot of content and a lot of replayability.
Been following them for a few years. They actually are very close to a 'final' release(full campaign, functionality, etc.)

I've emailed about them the day it got released and got no reply. I'm a long-time backer, by the way. But from what I can gather from what they're saying on their forum, probably not. Backers will probably be stuck with the Humble DRM-free version, whenever THAT gets released.

Yes, they have done a lot. Made the steel recipe complete nonsense (Would steel+charcoal really be too much to ask), limited difficulty to planetary biomes (meaning if you want good stuff, you're mining on volcanic planets and nothing else), reinvented the combat system multiple times, reinvented survival mechanics several times, added countless furniture sets that at best, you might use once.

I'll be blunt. I followed Minecraft and Terraria's developments. They both had a cohesive idea of where they were going, what they were doing, and what was due next. Each update was progressive, and not regressive or a sudden, 'but what if it worked like THIS?', update. Dwarf Fortress is much like them and even has a public goal list. Only since formally concluding development have the former two started to 'wander' their development and add fluff features. Re-Logic wanted a moon boss of some kind, and boy did they ever deliver!

I don't know what Chuckfish's endgame is anymore. I don't know what features they want for a 1.0, seeing as they gutted the entire system at least once and decided instead to hit the 'do-over' button. I used to know, but that all mysteriously vanished. And that is one of the largest frustrations. The game has been in development for years now and instead of actually appearing any close to what would appear to be finished, they're making square wheels and a story.

I especially enjoyed the blog post where they again (I've lost count) claim they'll soon be ready to release 1.0, only they must first redo/update a few things - just the combat, weapons, monsters, quests, vehicles, story and polish. Instant flashback to reading Cleve's Grimoire updates, "only 10 microissues remaining".
