Parks and (re)creation

Parkitect, a construction/management game for aspiring theme park owners, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

A great theme park must offer three things: a busy atmosphere of constant enjoyment, a safe environment packed with artificial thrills, and the illusion of magic at work. Finally, a passionate but disciplined individual who can pull all that off while turning a profit. And that's where you come in.
You have the tools to build and run the amusement park of your dreams, construct the most incredible roller coaster ride piece by piece, and make sure the guests stay happy, and oblivious to the nitty-gritty of your business.
Texel Raptor, the fellows behind Parkitect, are planning to add several additional features to the game until its final release: a single-player campaign, a functional resource system for shops, more ways to manage your staff, plus even more rides for your visitors to enjoy.

Build and maintain the most awesome theme park this side of the galaxy, and become the ultimate Parkitect, DRM-free on GOG.com.

It depends on whether they mean a dual core i5 or a quad core i5. It's not specific on the requirements. If it only requires a dual core, you should be fine. However, if it requires a quad core, you could run into trouble. Though, GOG says they have a 14-day no questions asked return policy on this game, so you could try it and return it if it doesn't work.
Some of these games suffer from not really giving you enough space and budget or otherwise being needlessly restrictive. Does Parkitect fix this?

It currently only has a sandbox mode, so although there's money you can't go bankrupt, so budget is no restriction. (We'll have proper scenarios later on of course with goals where money does have a meaning, but the sandbox mode will stay as well)
There's only one map size currently that is not gigantic, but fairly big (attached a pic, unfortunately it had to be pretty small due to file size restrictions of this forum). Different map shapes and bigger sizes will be added.

Apart from that it really depends on what kind of limits you mean. You seem to be more interested in the creative building aspect, which is much less limited compared to the RCT series for example (e.g. mostly no collision restrictions on scenery, way more track building options, pretty much no restrictions on what modded custom content can add to the game).

Thanks for the response! The map size looks good enough to get plenty of rides in and the fact that it will increase beyond that is good to hear too.

As for restrictions, it's the RCT scenario ones I am referring to. There was a tendency to tie one hand behind your back in the scenarios that didn't let up later in the game. In fact it just got worse. I'd like the idea of being able to build a big park (like the one pictured) and meet a high scenario target than have a meagre park hit its meagre target.
I backed the KS campaign, but didn't had time yet to test the beta
Ah, yeah. We haven't started working on scenario design yet so I'm not entirely sure how they'll be in the end - I guess restricting you is one way to make things more challenging and so there'll probably be some scenarios like that, but I can also imagine challenging scenarios in a big park like that.
What I didn't like in the RCT scenarios were the time limits, i.e. "reach this goal by end of Year 3" etc. that oftentimes could lead to having to restart the whole scenario from the beginning. That's something I really want to avoid, and if we give the player as much time as he needs anyways I think we could also have bigger parks in the scenarios (what would you do with all that time otherwise?).

Psst. It's still in alpha.

reative00: I just want new Theme Park World, with cute theme and advanced management, is it that much I'm asking for?
Me too, but this does look fun till someone else (not EA) makes it
This looks like fun. Will definitely keep my eye on this.
I didn't really play or build much of anything, but I did some testing.

- As I figured, any blueprint that can be found on Steam's workshop - as long as they actually show the blueprint picture - can be saved and moved into Parkitect's blueprint folder and it'll pop up in the game without a problem.
- I tried the ride cam and first-person peep mod. The latter is only really good for maybe taking screenshots. Trying to walk through your park can get you incredibly wonky results. The ride cam worked fairly well, but it was clear the game wasn't really designed for such, but it did make me take notice of how wooden support structures can occasionally pop through rollercoaster tracks. Not exactly pretty.
- The more scenery items and peeps there are in the park the more performance goes down. Changing graphic options from high to lowest really doesn't seem to do all that much. I tried out some of the big parks included in the current version, and not even halfway zoomed out it can have a pretty adverse effect on performance. Frankly, I'm not sure whether Unity was the best engine choice for such a project.

All that made me want to compare it to my copy of RCT 3, which runs buttery smooth on the same computer on high. Now sure, it's a bit unfair to compare the two due to the latter being a really polished professional and older game, but it does kind of stand out in my mind.

Well, I'll make sure to actually play with Parkitect and build stuff over the weekend and see how I'll feel about it afterwards, game-wise and control-wise.

gamesfreak64: This game looks indeed like Rolelr Coaster, i watched some videos of Parkitect and its 3d , and zooming and rotating like crazy:

Parkitect - Part 29 - Awesome New Update!!!

So this game is another nope, I will be waiting for more 2d games ( no zoom no 3d, no rotating to come...)

park_84: It has polygons but the gameplay seems completely 2D, I bet it'll be possible to play without the rotation and zooming, much like in the original RCT games.
Thanks for the reply.
i have the old RTC2 , on retail cd, it was pretty cheap at release, but i played it only 3 times, it takes to much effort and lots of time before you can see results, besides, when i game i want to take an active aprt thats why point and click games are my favorite.
Your Game needs fixing. When I tried to install it on Windows 7, during the installation it stops and tells me that the game cannot access my disk. then says installation failed. Do you have any idea what is going on there. thanks

It might not be the game.
Your Virus scanner might be blocking installation.

Try downloading the standalone installer.
