Parks and (re)creation

Parkitect, a construction/management game for aspiring theme park owners, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

A great theme park must offer three things: a busy atmosphere of constant enjoyment, a safe environment packed with artificial thrills, and the illusion of magic at work. Finally, a passionate but disciplined individual who can pull all that off while turning a profit. And that's where you come in.
You have the tools to build and run the amusement park of your dreams, construct the most incredible roller coaster ride piece by piece, and make sure the guests stay happy, and oblivious to the nitty-gritty of your business.
Texel Raptor, the fellows behind Parkitect, are planning to add several additional features to the game until its final release: a single-player campaign, a functional resource system for shops, more ways to manage your staff, plus even more rides for your visitors to enjoy.

Build and maintain the most awesome theme park this side of the galaxy, and become the ultimate Parkitect, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
Nice! I really hope the devs of Parkitect to be able to present us something even better than RCT. Personally, what I'd like to see is features, more features to be implemented (although such move possibly won't appeal to the more casual gamers?) as Matewis said and most importantly, a good non-bloated user interface; this is very critical in my opinion.

I'll try anything once.
I guess there's a first time for everything. My first EA / ID / yada yada title. I'll be buying this first thing when I'll get home.

I must have pestered the dev enough so he brought it here. ;) Nah, I only asked him once. Still, it's very good to see it here, even if it's currently sandbox format only.

That'll probably cut down on some of my sale spending, but that's okay. There are plenty of my backlog games that have sold for less already that I still haven't played. Heh.

Wow, that's so nice of you that you convinced the dev to bring the game to GOG :-) That's the attitude I love! :)
Looks fun. I hope there isn't too much, if any, Steam-locked content. I'm sick of games having content irrevocably tied to Steam.

Alongside that other RCT successor that I've seen, but can't recall the name of, that was based more on 3, which I also hope might have a DRM-free release, it's nice to see a potential variety of theme park simulators.
I wonder if it is more like an alternative Rollercoaster Tycoon, or the Theme Park counterpart to WFTO (which was a reboot of Dungeon Keeper before it turned into a horrible f2p mobile game).

In the second case, i wonder if that means there's a reboot of Theme Hospital too somewhere on the horizon.....

I had suggested that to the guys behind WFTO.
I'm needed at the deflater clinic

There is Steam Workshop integration on Steam, so players can share roller coasters, parks and scenery. I wonder how it will be resolved here.

Well, there is ParkitectNexus, for one, that existed ever since the game's pre-alpha, which also provides mods such as first-person park / ride camera, tile sets, alternate terrain, etc. Currently I only see blueprints available on Steam.

The thing about blueprints is that that specific image file is all you should technically need, since the data is actually encoded within the PNGs themselves, and most of the ones available on Steam do show those pictures, so theoretically it should be as easy as copying the picture and then plugging it into the game's folder. That said, compression will inadvertently affect that data. It's something I'll make sure to test this afternoon and report back.

Exactly my thoughts when i saw the image, i have the old rollercoaster because i ahd it on retail, the other roller coasters turned 3d, thats when i turned the games down :D

This game looks indeed like Rolelr Coaster, i watched some videos of Parkitect and its 3d , and zooming and rotating like crazy:

Parkitect - Part 29 - Awesome New Update!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HSgOnutoB0

So this game is another nope, I will be waiting for more 2d games ( no zoom no 3d, no rotating to come...)
So i hope the people with the AGS can create another good game like Demetrios , a point and click game
and release it DRM free ofcourse, at a decent price 8 or 9 bucks at steam, and i buy it... but no 3d for me...

I just checked the Adventures tab on the sales page: it seems i have lots of games, seems i have 43 games on that page, if i removed the 3d ones (tex murphy) i still have 30 plus games, so maybe i am a point and click gameaddict?
Anyways i can never have enough point and click games, sad thing is they seem to be quite 'rare' compared to FPP and shooters, and 3d games...

Well there is CorsixTH, but that's not exactly a "reboot".

I wouldn't mind decent reboots of both Theme Hospital and Dungeon Keeper, especially ones that don't treat DRM-free customers as second class citizens, but I may be asking for too much there.

It has polygons but the gameplay seems completely 2D, I bet it'll be possible to play without the rotation and zooming, much like in the original RCT games.
I just want new Theme Park World, with cute theme and advanced management, is it that much I'm asking for?
I bought it today and I'm about to check it out. I'm hoping it's a lot like the RCT games.
