Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

tomimt: Just out of curiosity, are sales big in North Korea or do they all go to the beloved leader?
It's the Democratic People's Republic of Korea you imperialist swine!

The more I hear about this remake the less hope I have for it.
Eh, maybe when it's done.

omega64: So is the game in development or the future? :P
The future is vapourware - we've been promised it forever, but it never gets here. :)

I'm going to wishlist it for now as I'm not going to repeat the mistake I made buying MOO3 right when it appeared on store shelves. Right now the game as several things going against me buying it:

- real time combat
- high price for a game in development
- collector's edition forcing me to re-buy the first 3. (I own 1 and 2 twice, and once is more than enough for 3)
Looks like a good place to go stargazing. Not too much distracting lights around
I am surprised this game is n.1 seller right now - considering how many people here usually complains about high prices (Wasteland 2 anyone?).
Especially when it´s in beta.
What wait, this has real-time battles?! Who the hell has the nerve to remake/reboot MoO and to not make it TB. Fuck these guys
Cool that devs are still interested in strategy games and cool that strategy classics get so much attention.

However I won't buy before release. I do not trust it is really good (just having the name of a real classic game doesn't make it a good game) and the price is really high (a bit minor point though) and there is real time combat (big point, doesn't belongt into turn based strategy games). Even if optionally I feel like the devs want to cater to a large audience but may fail to focus on a certain subgroup and so there is a certain risk attached, so I would rather wait a bit more. I would like to get deep gameplay and immersion but I fear I might get only shiny graphics and meaningless action battles.

ABH20: The more I hear about this remake the less hope I have for it.
when it was announced that it was wargaming.net at the helm [with ngd publishing] i lost all hope pretty much instantly. from ngd's wikipedia page: "making games for known brands like axe" - uhhhhh. say no more!
Real time battles?

No thanks, this is MoO
Real time battles are a turn off, but not a complete deal breaker for me, but the core game needs to be excellent as I will just use auto-combat like stardrive 2 and Endless space for that matter. The problem with that is it is not clear when my fleet loses, why my fleet lost, makes the game more difficult and less interesting.

tried the RT combat in stardrive 2 just couldn't get into it, so MOO IV I will assume would be the same for me.

Ichwillnichtmehr: Spacelanes and Real-Time combat, just like in MoO3.

tad10: Neither is bad in of itself, but the RTS needs a lot of work, right now almost zero control, spacelanes are kinda cool, but there's a problem with late-game movement, engines aren't working correctly so you can't go any faster late game.

InDev = buggy unfortunately.
You are correct that both features are not bad in of themselves.

They are bad in a Master of Orion game.
Hmm, till now it seems to be another unnecessary remake. Why not developing a proper Master of Orion IV? Remakes can be fun for story driven games, adding new visuals and modern controls, but in case of strategy games, I'd definitely prefer a proper successor.
Missing Linux support prevents me from purchasing it ;P
The new Master of Orion!

Shiny graphics: Check
Modern UI: Check
Possibly nice soundtrack: Check I guess
In Development: Check
Terribly priced for an InDev title: Check
Am I excited?: Check Check Check
Am I worried about the gameplay?: Check Check Check
Am I going to throw my backlog out of the window, if it proves to be worthy remake of Master of Orion?: CHECK!
