Riding the intergalactic highway.

<span class="bold">Master of Orion: Collector's Edition</span>, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new <span class="bold">Master of Orion: Collector's Edition</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the <span class="bold">FAQ</span> to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

wolfsite: Have to agree with people, that is a rather high price to beta test a game.

The ad is also way too big and could make people think it's a full complete game without reading it is early access (The In development text is quite small and I will admit I missed it when I first saw the ad)
That's cause that text looks like part of the game description and does not really point out that the game is in early access.

Quote: "The future is ours-now in development."

So is the game in development or the future? :P
But at this stage there are already 6 out of 10 races and 2 main goals available, plus all the tech trees, ship designs, skills etc. of these 6 races. And winning by being elected as supreme ruler or by annihilating all others were the same ways MoO had. This game is already quite complete.

WG has set a timeframe of 3 months in which 3 mayor updates will come, each adding the last remaining elements (i.e. Silicoids, Klackons and the other two races and the remaining game goals). And even if they need 50% more time, then it would be a 5 month time frame ... I know a lot games that are longer in early access by far!

Yet it IS just a planning, I know. :)

Konrad: Today, I bring you a Public Service Announcement!

In short, Master of Orion is blocked in North & South Korea right now — but this is completely, entirely temporary.

The game's rating in South Korea seems to have been delayed, but it is pending. Once the game gets an official age rating, it'll be unlocked for all of our Korean friends as well, and therefore worldwide.

popperik: Does the North Korean block depend on the South Korean rating? Will the arrival of the rating in the South unblock the game in the North, too?
I`m wondering, that it even gets released in North Korea. Media always say that North Korea is some kind of stone age communism, where the people are so poor, that they can`t even buy the most simple technologies. So how can such a country be a market for a game which needs some advanced computer technology?
I`m astonished like hell.

Kilmex: And Wargaming as it`s developer means that there will be quite some tinkering with balancing
Ooh, I didn't realize they were involved. Not fond of Wargaming.net, which means this will have to be at least 75% off for me to consider purchasing (and definitely out of InDev and after much patching).
What's about the Linux version?

The homepage explicitly lists System Requirements: Linux: Ubuntu 12.04.5 – 15.10.
GOG galaxy is currently required for multiplayer, is it possible to get clarification on if this will be required in the official release?

eiii: What's about the Linux version?

The explicitly lists <i>System Requirements: Linux: Ubuntu 12.04.5 &ndash; 15.10</i>. <a href="http://www.gog.com/forum/general/in_development_master_of_orion_collectors_edition_6ac9d/post81" class="link_arrow"></a></div> From what I've seen in an official announcement in the French forum ( [url=http://forum.masteroforion.eu/index.php?/topic/361-acces-anticipe-phase-1-quoi-pourquoi-et-quand]http://forum.masteroforion.eu/index.php?/topic/361-acces-anticipe-phase-1-quoi-pourquoi-et-quand/ ) there will be 3 phases of Early Access (currently it's phase 1) and Linux version will come during phase 2 or 3 (not specified which one).

But I would like some official confirmation by either GOG team or the game developer/publisher that if we buy the game in early access now, we'll get the Linux version on GOG when it's released (phase 2 or 3). $50 is not a small amount of money, so I would like to be sure before spending them.

0Grapher: I would like some clarification as well. The store page currently only lists Windows.

maladr0Id: You are correct, the newspost has now been fixed. Midnight releases, amirite?
veeerrry strictly speaking, this isn't a "release."

it's a game-in-development.

[i know. semantics. but still.]

As we can infer from this picture, the only person who probably has a computer is Kim Jong Un himself

My guess is they don't want to leave him out. :)

Ah, nice satellite photo. I like how the lights form the shape of Japan.

jorlin: Alphatesting a game at this price?! You must be kidding.
I'll chalk it down to bad financial planning on the team of the new MOO.
No, I'll just await the relase and see if this game is any good aside from the flashy graphics.

GOG: Can we please have a filter that allows to completely ignore InDev titles) as in hide completely when logged in? That would mean: no mentions of it on the site, no promotional e-mails, etc.
And yes, I 've already voted for that in the wishlist of site features.
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/add_a_hide_filter_option_for_games_in_development_or_otherwise_unwanted_games
voted.

yes, please. do want.

Konrad: On a personal note, apparently ratings are a thing for games in development as well. Who would've thunk.
avatar
omega64: Weird, considering content may change.
As ratings may do too. ;)

At least as far as I can see you can change your rating at any time and adjust it to the current state of the game.
So, the new Master of Orion will never be released after all. Damn youuu, early access-chan!
