Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
There will be a stream of the new Master of Orion on http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom at 7pm GMT/UTC, and Chris Keeling of Wargaming will be along for the ride (on audio)!
So maybe tune in to see the current state of the game. :-)
I'm not really convinced how this game is better than MoO 2, other than visuals.
Sad to see the price so high, will keep on my wishlist. I won't buy in EA/Early development at this price, but maybe once released if they pull it off well! Good Luck to the Developers and I will follow with eager anticipation.
Alphatesting a game at this price?! You must be kidding.
I'll chalk it down to bad financial planning on the team of the new MOO.
No, I'll just await the relase and see if this game is any good aside from the flashy graphics.

GOG: Can we please have a filter that allows to completely ignore InDev titles) as in hide completely when logged in? That would mean: no mentions of it on the site, no promotional e-mails, etc.
And yes, I 've already voted for that in the wishlist of site features.

I'm skeptical of real-time space battles, but I've seen it done well enough in some other MOO-alikes and beyond that it doesn't warrant an automatic rejection sight unseen. It really comes down to the pacing and degree of fidgetiness involved.

That's my opinion on the topic too. I would prefer TB space battles, but RT space battles aren't necessarily a blocker.
Hmm... i would better like TB space battles as in MoO2... i can still play Sword of the Stars instead of a high priced game in development.

While it has nothing to do with the gameplay, I'd recommend watching the second, longer video posted at the gamecard.
The production values (thus the cost) are simply incredible for a game of this kind.
If you are a sci-fi fan, check out the voice cast!

Yet, I have to agree, that for beta testing this game at least a 10% EA discount would be nice...

Konrad: Today, I bring you a Public Service Announcement!

In short, Master of Orion is blocked in North & South Korea right now — but this is completely, entirely temporary.

The game's rating in South Korea seems to have been delayed, but it is pending. Once the game gets an official age rating, it'll be unlocked for all of our Korean friends as well, and therefore worldwide.
Does the North Korean block depend on the South Korean rating? Will the arrival of the rating in the South unblock the game in the North, too?
Uh, watch out GOG guys. I wasn't too much against the concept of games in dev but this gigantic ad on the main page is kind of obnoxious (and for an unfairly priced item to boot but I guess you knew that, too, irked me a bit).

I understand this is kind of a big "return" but watch out with the obnoxiousness.

Regards,

I just watched Jingles YouTube video on this game and was very irritated by the realtime battles. Turn based battles were one of the most important advantages MoO had for me. For RTS I played C&C or Dune 2(000) back then.

It`s kinda let down, because every freaking else looks like a nowaday version of that good old stuff. I realy feel tempted by an early access game first time in years. And Wargaming as it`s developer means that there will be quite some tinkering with balancing, but it will be good at some point in the future.

No easy decision for me ... -.-

The future is ours-now in development. >_<

It really is obnoxious to advertise games like that especially games that aren't even finished yet.

One question for @GOG.com, how does the "permanent" discount of 5% work? I mean if the game is some day offered with a discount of 10%, do I get 10+5% or 10% or what?

My apologies if this was already answered somewhere else.

For people who want more information about the game, check Space Sector:

Master of Orion – Interview with Chris Keeling (The guy from the interview is apparently a "Director of Product Vision"...)

Seems to be a very mainstream remake, so it'll probably be good for a few days here and there, though I doubt it'll replace MOO2 and SOTS1 for me :)

The game will have starlanes and real-time combat. I have nothing agains either of them (SOTS1 is my favorite space TBS ever, even with humans), but I don't like how the guy in the interview explained why starlanes. Apparently, colonizing planets behind the enemy is a cheat because it confuses the AI. To make players behave in a somewhat-predictable manner, starlanes. Dude, just say that it's difficult to write the AI that can deal with free travel, no need to preface it by putting blame on the players that used the system as it was meant to be used... It's not even an exploit, for Cthulhu's sake.

PS. Sorry about the links being in plaintext, I was told "You cannot post any links at this moment." I assume it's because I never posted before. If someone could reply to this with actual hyperlinks to make easier to others, that'd be nice :)

Have to agree with people, that is a rather high price to beta test a game.

The ad is also way too big and could make people think it's a full complete game without reading it is early access (The In development text is quite small and I will admit I missed it when I first saw the ad)
