Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Have the updates improved the AI? I've watched some LPs and everyone has rolled over the AI in the mid-late game.

That's supposedly coming in the next big update, whenever that is due for release.

JosEPh002: This MoO is, impho, the MoO2.5 that those that "hated" and still rant about MoOIII today wanted. Although even those that I Now played all 3 are still ranting over this one too. No patience out there anymore I guess.
avatar
jamotide: Yeah now that you mention it, I definitely remember all the cries for real time combat from the Orion 2 fans back then. "Orion would be so much better with real time combat" "Please give us real time combat"

jamotide: gee that is so strange, even though they finally got their real time combat!
Ooooo the sarcasm is heavy with this one. lol

I enjoyed all 3 and each had it's own flavor. At 1st in MoOIII i was looking for more of MoO2 myself. But when I realized that 3 was as different from 2 as 2 was to 1 I got over it. Apparently quite a few other did not. Oh well each to their own liking.

JosEPh :)

I have a question for Gog; When do we get the other 3 MoO for our purchase of the Collector's Edition? Steam buyers already have access to the 1st 3 from their purchase. Are we in limbo because we might have bought the 1st 3 already from Gog?

Also this MoO kinda screwed with my shortcut to the original MoO I purchsed here. I heard there was a fix. Where do I find it?

They got added to your account the minute you purchased the Collector's Edition. Just search in your account in the search bar for "Master of Orion" and you should see 3 separate game boxes :)
Hi guys does any of you have problem with graphic??? i just play Moo 3 and ships look like as several cubes. :/ my computer is new and working good so its not a computer fault.

I would really like it if you could tell me how to have fun with Orion 3, I did try.

Have you gotten Bhruic's MoO3Patcher and the Patch set that goes with it. Of course MoOIII must have the Official 1.25 patch installed. Most released versions today already have the 1.25 Patch.

Once you get a copy of Bhruic's Patcher. Follow it's instructions (Read me), apply the .DLL 1st (v1.65) then Go thru the patch list and either click the Patch button upper right corner to Patch, or move on down the list to next patch. Some of the patches do have a file attached that makes a small change to the appropriate Spreadsheet. Nothing hard to do, so don't fret over that. And as the read me states the MoO3Patcher and all patches need to be placed in the Main MoOIII directory, where the .exe resides.

Once in the game, Explore every button and Tab to find out what they do or Don't do. And since this is a Turn based game except for Space Combat you can explore the interface without fear of the game getting out of control on you.

And you probably know that the Game Only Saves at the Beginning of a turn. Even if you have made lots of choices, moved tons of ships, went to the Senate, Research etc. to keep what you have done you Must hit Next Turn and when Sitrep comes up then Save.

It really was a shame when Atari pulled the forum plug on us at AtmoO forum. So many fan tutorials where lost that would've been tremendous helps to new or returning players.

And remember with MoOIII, Patience IS a Virtue! :)

But once you get comfortable with the interface and actions of the game Then you can start a new game (if your starter game is going badly) and then really dig in.

Warning! even a Senate Victory game can take over 200 turns. And if you expect a turn to go quickly after the initial 50 turns you've miscalculated what it takes to play a turn of MoOIII. It's Not the click fest the "haters" say it is. Multiple decisions to make each turn. Requires thinking and remembering. Some thing today's younger players don't want much of. Especially if they are FPS players/fans. This is a thinking game and involves long term planning and strategy.

If you have patience and like Tactics and Strategy games then you can learn MoOIII and Have Fun with it. If I can/did do it so can you.

I tried the patcher and used the latest 1.65 dll, but kept getting some directx surface issue or something like that, then gave up.

Now I remember why I stopped playing it. Bugs or learning wasnt the problem, this stupid combat system geared towards younger fps players was the cause.

Don't think that is my problem, Eador: Genesis is my favourite game ever, of course it has turn based combat.

The DLL must be installed 1st before any Patches can be Patched. And MoOIII itself must be pactched to the Official 1.25. The MoO3Patcher only works with the 1.25 Patched version.

But not all the Patches are true Patches some are actually mods Like Hull size or taking Research to level 99.

And the Patcher and ALL patches must be located in the Main Directory (same folder as the moo.exe).

A DirectX surface problem is generally associated with a graphical issue. Or a misplaced file.

Where you trying Gog's MoOIII version? I have verified that Bhruic's patcher system works with it even for win 10 x64. My original CD set worked with win 7 x64 and before that XP pro x64.

Yes for III they moved to rts combat. And it does take some patience to learn it. I guess I was stubborn enough to do so. Ilogged over 5000 Space Combats in a 6 month period when 1st learning the game. The Patrol Command is your Friend. The Attack Command must be used with the right type ships, mostly heavily armored Short Range. Long Range, Carrier, and IF use Patrol for best results. Even for chasing down an enemy aramada. Jus pick the 2nd Patrol spot beyond the armada you are after.

And another thing many players didn't/don't like it does take some time to play a mid to late game turn. Some evenings after work and supper it might take me an hour to finish 1 turn late game. So might only get 4 turns in that evening. Depended a lot of the number of battles to be fought.

While I played and Modded MoOIII I will admit it does take patience to play a game thru. You will never do a single game in just a few hours. And anyone that said they have is not telling the truth.

Thank you for the clarification. I reset a couple of times. At this point, I am not sure which combination I tried.
It is ok now i just reinstal the game :)
Does anybody know when they will add 4 more races??
Patch 42 just came out. You should be able to update now if you use GOG Galaxy. Mine did., and it adds the 3 missing races and custom races as well
