Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
I'll wait at least until the regular edition comes out. I don't find any of these 'extras' particularly enticing.
while I am excited for a new MOO, after number 3... I just... just have to wait and see.

So........this game is in development and at the time of this post already has 18 user ratings. What the hell are these ratings based on? I can only think of 2.

1) IT'S MASTER OF ORION, BEST GAME EVAR!!!!! BUY IT NOW!!!!!

or

2) It's gonna be another MOO3, DON'T BUY!!!!!

Have I missed something here?

Seriously though, I'm going to wait for the game to be released as see what actual user reviews say. I do want another MOO game but we should all know by now never to give in to the hype.

Honestly, it being in development is not an excuse when it comes to ratings imo. Once they start taking money for it it's fair game imo.

That said, an hour to a couple of hours does seem way too soon for it,.
GOG should make a cooldown for 6 hours after release for nobody being able to post reviews, because they clearly have not played the full game yet.

Well, the game was inofficially released about 4 hours before the news post was created, so some guys have bought it already and played it a bit.

jamotide: Beware: it has realtime combat, very smart not to mention that in the description.
Yeap, as I found out recently. Putting it on hold since it's not tactical turn-based and waiting for opinions from forums and the Codex.

Full game? The game is not full. It's work in progress.

Oh but the price is full...

Thing is, if you look at an average user rating for a game, will you think that rating is about the game itself, or the developers business practices? You make a fair point for the latter but people are still going to look at that rating and think of the former.

And that's my problem with this. I've seen user reviews state they have never played the game but their friend thought it was good and listed a bunch of features their friend liked. Or they themselves are hyped for the title, automatically give it a high rating and regurgitate some info from the development diaries to support their claim.

This might be an oversight on GOG's behalf though. I'm positive I saw a few other titles where user ratings and reviews were disabled as they game hadn't been released yet.

Edit: The game has 20 votes now. Like seriously guys.......

Now just do something like this for "Master of Magic" and I'll be your best friend forever.
Thank you gog.
Besides the French version is planned. What to say thank you again gog.
If you bought this game and have a GOG wiki account, please consider uploading your library to the wiki and letting me know, so that MaGog could make sure that she has the correct ID for tracking this game.
Any guinea pigs yet? :D
If any of you are on the fence or just want to see this game in action before purchasing it. YouTuber and Twitch Livestreamer Quill18 played it for over 5 1/2 hours and streamed it on Twitch.

Here are links to the first 4 parts of that livestream that are on Youtube now.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Of course if you'd like to not wait for the rest you can always watch his past broadcasts.

Part 1 5 1/2 hours (1 1/2 hours are him playing Civ 5 as Wednesdays are his Civ 5 livestream days but the first 4 hours are all New MOO)
Part 2 1 1/2 hours

I watched the entire thing live and I have to say while I'm a little sad combat is real time its not going to stop me from getting this game and playing it for hours! It is really polished for being an early build. But don't take my word for it, check out the videos and make your own decision!

Can they Clarify will this have Turn Based Combat? Or are they trying to go Liberace and make it Real Time.
