Riding the intergalactic highway.

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, the glorious return of the legendary 4X strategy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Owners of any of the previous installments get a permanent 5% discount.

Most strategy-inclined kids have at some point in their lives dreamt of becoming the true Master of Orion. To conquer a whole galaxy through sly negotiations, intense technological research, or even all-out war. Now the dream is coming back to life, as you will once again ride your customizable ship(s) and throw yourself at a vast network of almost 100 solar systems, populated by the alien races that franchise veterans fell in love with.

Developers NGD Studios have already enlisted a star-studded cast of acclaimed voice-actors to breathe life into these characters and make interactions as fun as the addictive gameplay that players have come to expect from a true Master of Orion successor. Currently, the game includes six out of the ten alien races and several features (like certain victory conditions) will remain unavailable, as the developers aim to keep polishing the game with the help of their community.

Engage in interstellar warfare and limitless exploration in the vivid new Master of Orion: Collector's Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. This edition includes the three vintage Master of Orion games and eventually it will also feature a wonderful Digital Art Book, the game's orchestral soundtrack, an additional race, and more. Those who already own any of the original Master of Orion games on GOG.com, get a permanent 5% discount.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

Smannesman: I'd like the $9.99 non-collector's edition please.
The non-collector's edition costs $39.99 (that was the price it had before it disappeared from the upcoming tab and was replaced by the collector's edition). Still want it?
Since they are only in Phase 1 of Alpha, do you think the Devs will reconsider making it Turn Based - This could be an amazing game,

I pray they don't ruin it by keeping in Real Time Battles.

0Grapher: I hope you understand that giving publishers money for a Windows version means not giving them money for the Linux version. If the Linux users buy the game before the Linux version gets released they will (euphemistically put) think twice if they want to port another game.
Well, that's not how I see it - if there is a firm promise of a Linux version, I don't see it as buying the Windows version but as pre-ordering the Linux version, and if they don't make a Linux version of another game, they won't get my money for it.

But I understand your point, that it can easily be mis-interpreted by the publishers, so I'll probably wait for the Linux version - it's supposed to come soon enough.

ncameron: 1. Ignore game in development news posts
2. Wait until game is finished
3. decide whether to purchase or not.
4. Wait for the patches .
5. Wait for the DLC , expansion pack .
7. Wait for the complete collection / gold edition / goty ( whatever it will be called ) release .
8. Wait for a 66% off sale .

For $9.99? Seems like a steal!

Zoidberg: Uh, watch out GOG guys. I wasn't too much against the concept of games in dev but this gigantic ad on the main page is kind of obnoxious (and for an unfairly priced item to boot but I guess you knew that, too, irked me a bit).

I understand this is kind of a big "return" but watch out with the obnoxiousness.

omega64: The future is ours-now in development. >_<

It really is obnoxious to advertise games like that especially games that aren't even finished yet.
The future is in development-ours now?

LOL

Last time I checked the future was always in development, wanna pay for it?

But the stores and publishers don't see it as that. It's really unfortunate that Linux versions aren't guaranteed. :(
I'm certain that making sure that your money goes to the people who actually make it possible is what's right and what everyone deserves.

Someone said that the Linux version will be released before Early Access ends, so there's enough time to pre-order it. :)

madth3: And yet, the future is not what it used to be.
:)
Like dear old Firesign Theatre, I prefer to go forward into the past. :)

Side note: What the heck happened to your rep, mate?!

robertgg: yet another paid beta/early access piece of crap.
shame on you gog

That shouldn't be too hard?

Yeah, there's not even a need to display such an obnoxiously big banner, and also it should be reserved for releases, not preorders or early access. What's next? Bigger ads for kickstarter-liked games? Meh... :/
I don't get why so many people are down on the real time combat. The only 4x game I play more than the original MoO is SotS and I actually like the real time combat in that...

Smannesman: I once got a bingo game set thingamajig from a friend's Spanish grandmother.

Emob78: I wonder if it cost her $49.99. Did it come with extra pieces?
Mine did. I got a single bingo counter with Bingo the dog wearing a hat that says "Bingo" on it. A bonus only those who pre-ordered got. You may now feel jealous of me over how much extra value I got from pre-ordering.

*smug and cocky as hell face* >:D

I wouldn't be very surprised if the publisher had a say in this as part of their contract and it being sold here.

Deviation from a much loved formula, simple as that.

As much I like liked HOMM4, the formula was changed too much and put many people off. Fallout:Tactics while a good game in and of itself was met with criticism for not being a sequel to FO2. There's actually a lot of examples where the formula was changed so much that a new game of an old IP is a cadaver of the original *cough* Deus Ex:The Fall *cough* .

Damn. You lucky prick. I had to settle for the dog named BIN, the 3 legged version with missing letters and toes. I was told that to add the GO and the 4th leg would cost me another 19.99.
