Kona, a survival/exploration adventure of supernatural thrills and natural chills, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Detective Carl Faubert was just looking to make an easy (Canadian) buck. That's why he agreed to travel to Northern Quebec and investigate the alleged wrongdoings of the local community against the copper mine industrialist who desecrated their land. Join Faubert as he fights to explore and survive the eerie snow glades of 1970's Canada, in a chilling adventure that will test both your mettle and your ability to think on your feet. If you can feel them at all, that is.

Kôna will be delivered in four episodes, with each of them being self-contained but also feeding into the overall arc of this historical rural mystery. The project has grown significantly larger since its Kickstarted inception so, while it's in development, Parabole focus on exterminating bugs, optimizing the game's performance, and trying to make sure that all the diverse gameplay elements are implemented as seamlessly as possible. Like how that scary Wendigo blends with the snowy backdrop... Oh god it's coming this way!

Be the first to reach Northern Quebec and experience the intriguing opening hours of Kona, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

IAmSinistar: Sounds very promising. But episodic? That means I'll be holding off buying it even longer than usual, since I'm not buying any more episodic games until they are complete. Feel free to blame Kentucky Route Zero for that.
You and me both. It's a rule for me now. I call it "KRZ's law".

I see some serious atmosphere in there. If this was a full release I would insta-buy it in a second but as it is now, I'm going to wait until it is completed as I don't like episodic gaming too much (looking at you Telltale). Also, the devs sound like great guys; thumbs up people! :)

robertgg: yet another paid beta/early access piece of crap.
shame on you gog
OK GOG, now you can turn that gun away from that guy's head.

So very much this.
A survival game about bikes. You must find maintenance tools for your bike. Dressing adequately is very important - gotta keep those kidneys warm, and a scarf would also help. Do tricks to level up your kona. Take it to the river for a sexy wash. There are romance options! Mount a homemade laser minigun on it to defend yourself against predatory pedestrians. If you beat the score on the leaderboards, you get a unique item - a hyperspace drive! It's such great fun biking to Jupiter. Bit gassy there, tho.

Looks tasty.
If the game takes place in Canada, then why is it named after a city in Hawaii?

Because the only way to stay warm up there is drinking Kona coffee? *ba-dump-swish*

budejovice: I do like the first answer in the FAQ. Imo, nailed it.

"Firstly, we truly appreciate the personal approach GOG is taking in regards of the games they support. With the always-increasing number of games being produced worldwide, we believe that a distributor that handpicks and follows closely its games is the way to go. It creates a healthy relationship between the content creator, the distributor and the customers.

Secondly, we are strong believers in GID’ 14-day refund policy. As a developer, this policy serves as a good metric to see if our message to gamers is both clear and appealing. It is also reassuring for the customer, as he knows that if he does not like how the game evolves or doesn’t get what he expected, he can get his money back, no questions asked. In short, we see GID as a very positive place to show our game, gather feedback and create the best experience possible.

Finally; DRM-Free. We want people who buy the game to actually own it. We have nothing against people sharing our game with friends and family; we are from the game cartridge era, after all ;)"
... and the game's concept, setting, visual quality and style, I'm seriously considering to buy this. And apparently it is GOG exclusive ( for now ), as well? I probably wouldn't bother to download it until it's completed, but it seems like a project and developer worth supporting.

Reminds me a bit of Long Dark, or Kholat. Does it utilize UE4 as well?

I have to say, while there's quite a lot of bickering about Early Access/GiD and unfinished games here ( at least on the forum ), the GiD releases so far all seem very good and interesting.
Yeah, I'm having trouble taking this game seriously with 'Day One' in the title for aforementioned Garry's Incident.

Agreed, i looks promising, but that's just it... promising. Because it's not a completed game and anything could go wrong.

If it still looks good if/when it's done, then sure I'll buy it.

From their Kickstarter page:

"Kôna means "snow" in the Cree langage. The Cree are one of the largest groups of First Nations/Native Americans in North America, with over 15 000 living in the Quebec province (Canada), where our story takes place. The Cree people play a role in our game and the world in Kôna is covered in snow."

>GoG announced GiD with games being in development for years
>GoG is talking about quality in picking GiD
>GoG releasing game with 0 feedback from any community ignoring thousands of votes on GoGwishlist
>Quality

Topkek at this moment. I don't mean anything bad about developer and i wish them all best, but come on people, how this is "picking only quality games"? Let's not even mention masterpices that are still not release on GoG, but even when speak about Early Access: Layers of Fear, Besiege, Universe Sandbox 2 (they released one great game, no reason to think about abandoning new one), maybe even Sheltered (while developers are making some mistakes it looks like development process is going).

And again - i fully respect developer of this new one title, and while i'll look forward into it on full release i just don't want GoG to be new EA dump full of never released "open world zombie mmorpg sandbox" (yeah, i know it's not your game). For now - i wish you all best and good luck with development process!

What makes you think this isn't a quality project? Have you actually tried it?

From a business point of view, it makes perfect sense to not only pick Early Access games which have been popular and around for a long time ( because that would mean that most potential customers already bought it on Steam ).

At a first glance this seems like a good game and developer, and so far I haven't seen any legitimate claims to the contrary ( claims based on actual facts and experience with the game, that is ).

You should only ever put your thumbs up people who agree to it ahead of time. ;)
