Let's get physical

Exanima, the dark isometric RPG armed with a unique, physics-based combat system, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% launch discount.

You find yourself in a dark dungeon full of dangers shambling out of the shadows. You feel powerless, defenseless, alone. In order to survive, you'll need to grab a weapon and quickly familiarize yourself with Exanima's innovative combat system, which requires your undivided attention and adaptation to its dynamic flow. Every hit has it's own weight, angle, momentum, and impact.
The unconventional mechanics are being constantly refined and polished but Bare Mettle also aim to keep adding new content: complex NPC interactions, ranged and magic-based combat, additional encounters, items, and environments. After having successfully gone through the game's alpha and beta stages, they hope to release this compelling low-fantasy RPG within six to nine months, but as we all know the development process is full of emergent challenges, much like Exanima's core gameplay.

Learn to survive the dungeons by mastering the unique combat mechanics of Exanima, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until May 23, 12:59 PM UTC.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

amok: Doesn't Arx Fatalis have this physical manipulation thingy going on, or am I confusing It with something else, I see'm to remember moving things and making bridges, and some objects being to have to move.
avatar
JMich: No idea, haven't played it yet. But I do think it's possible, since wasn't Arx Fatalis the one that you had to wave the mouse all around to do the spellcasting?
Either way, Arx Fatalis is first person, not isometric.
indeed, on both accounts

Tyrrhia: Following your standpoint, Baldur's Gate isn't an RPG, either, but a point-and-click.
Bullshit. You cannot manipulate items in BG in any way, other than enabling CheatKeys() and using the 'Z' key to grasp items. THAT is not regular game play.
Looks interesting! Is there an ETA on the final build?

omega64: If you don't like the way it's been done it might just not be for you.
Precisely why I said I would be watching it but not purchasing it at this time.

It is a rip off because you are charging people beta test the game for you.

Thank you for replying.

The environments being intricately designed and permadeath being an option instead of being completely forced definitely interests me. Being defeated not meaning immediate death sounds a bit weird, I guess I'll find it eventually.
Will keep my eye on this one.

Definitely sounds great, thank you for all the info. :)

you obviously have no idea what beta testing is and involves. Educate yourself before making such comments.

Doesn't seem like you're in the right thread, Early Access is no longer a new thing. :P
Not saying I like it but interacting with the community does help games along in development.

So, regular reports, have to play the game by the developers' schedule, not yours, then if you find a bug have to reproduce it, write a concise report, send the report, then repeat the same process with the next build they send you to see if the bug was fixed?
Damned, I thought I was playing a game I liked that might get more content in the future...

P.S. As I said last time, early access/in development/using software in beta is not the same as beta testing, not unlike how writing in forums doesn't make you a writer.

There are two types of damage - 'red' permanent damage caused by stuff that bypasses your armour (and pointy things like axes to the face) and yellow 'stamina' damage that can be causes by impact on armour and blunter weapons. yellow damage heals over time but if depleted causes unconciousness. red damage is permanent and leads to death can be healed 3 times in the game so far (special very rare healing jars.

Your yellow damage pool also shrinks as you take red damage

Ah, that makes sense.

Meh, you don't have to buy it, gog is offering what many wanted....
Remember the survey way-back-when, well the % for early access/unfinished builds etc was high.
So..............it's here to stay.

Bare_Mettle: I'm guessing you're basing this purely on the screenshot on the game's page, which is a very unusual example. Each piece of lore in the game is quite unique and specific, and all of them should be interpreted only as the particular author's views or intent. This is by far the most fantasy themed piece of lore in the game, and is related to a sort of religious myth.
Yeah, I bought the game (the lady on the same screen looks awesome!) but I haven't actually played it yet. I'll have to sneak a graphics card into the work computer for that and hope corporate Windows doesn't throw a hissy fit. =)

Not to nitpick, but there are currently at least 5 healing items in the game.
