Carradice: So when you get the weapon you cannot go back? Sounds a bit too definitive :-/
Nooo. Sorry if it sounded like that. You choose glyphs/subroutines and other equipment/ship configuration before starting a new run.
You can't change your glyphs during a run, and this particular one doesn't allow you to use any other weapon, but you will be able to change glyphs before your next runs, so no worries.
For those who have already tried Everspace 2: What do you think about this part of the game blurb:

Expand your private ship collection from a virtually endless supply of ships, composed of various unique ship classes and optimize your build to perfection. Cleverly combine modules, weapons, devices, and perks to fit your individual playstyle and the current objective.

Virtually endless supply of ships? Sounds like there would be a number of types of ships, and then incremental differences.... I would rather have a number of well defined ship types, to avoid confusion. Choice paralysis of the buyer etc. Is it really like that?

Haven't really reached a point where I can swap my ship yet, but I guess I'm still in the early parts of the game - I've only flown two ships so far - one in the tutorial which got swapped out for another once the main campaign kicks off. I'll comment once I get there, but anyway that statement may just be the usual marketing exaggeration. "Virtually endless supply of ships" may refer to some random bonuses applied to ships, if gear is anything to go by.

Yeshu: Dude, It's been a few years now that W7 is no longer supported in anyway.
Considering how long the last year felt, I can see how you could say that, but the official end of support date for Windows 7 was actually January 14 2020.

I really, really hope they did not take the approach Beat Hazard 2 did with their "music generated ships". I really hope there is a limited, albeit big supply of ship chasis, that you can then outfit from a limited though vast supply of gear.

@Orkhepaj Now I understand what kind of person you are - Dumb idiot, that's who you are!!! Live with this, u piece of shit (ಠ︵ಠ)凸

So, to sum it up, it seems like this:

Everspace: you are a hunter-gatherer, almost always on the run. There is a constant challenge and shortness of time. The game is strict about allowing you to use alternative ships. Original premise: roguelite in space. There is a story that unveils in drops as you get further than in past runs.

Everspace II: you can explore at ease, it is up to you when to proceed. Also more liberal with equipment and ships. More in the vein of Privateer or Freelancer. The story progresses as you achieve objectives.

It can be seen that both appeal to space heads, with different approaches. Both games remain valid propositions, the second does not cancel or supersedes the first at all.

I don't stream, but I do sometimes record my gameplay sessions - so here's some ES2 footage from tonight.

One more thing to note is that this has probably been the smoothest early access build experience I've ever had. I've encountered no notable bugs so far. There's only a minor issue with abnormally high GPU usage and perhaps some further mesh optimization that can be done here and there, but the footage you're seeing was captured with Epic settings @ 1080p... while recording... on Linux, using Wine. I mean it's fine even now.

P.S.: Epilepsy warning, flashing lights and all that, to whom it may concern.

Nice. I always wanted a modern Freelancer hope this will be it :P
There are so many games trying to achieve this, but I haven't found anything very good yet.

Niceeeee... Thank you for uploading this!

Wondering how cruise drive works for those long trips to far destinations. Is it automatized in some aspect?

Also... this leads to wondering... if there is a market for an evolved iWar 3 game... which would be awesome for lovers of the original iWar...

You can lock onto destinations from the map or by pointing at them and use autopilot, but also steer manually in "warp" mode.

It's probably worth waiting for Google to process the 1080p unpixelated version, to get a feel of that Epic graphics glory :P.

Great to hear there is autopilot, thanks!

Autopilot? So I can just lock the destination in, and just freely look around taking in the space scenery? Now that's glorious.

It is, but as a reminder, this was sorta possible even in Freelancer :P. Albeit, ES2 has smaller local areas with a large system map that has various points of interest you can "warp" between.

Sometimes during "warp" you get "unknown signal" or "distress call" markers pop up and, you guessed it, these are optional random encounters you can lock onto and go investigate.
