BreOl72: You seem to miss the point.
Yes - I am an "old fart". But of course I play modern games, too.

Most modern games I own on PS4, resp. Steam (because GOG can't deliver -unfortunately- due to DRM).

But back to the point: I call myself a "retro-gamer", not because of my own age - but because of the age of the games I play, respectively because of the age of the systems, on which I play these games (fuck emulators).

Those are definitely "retro" in every sense.

So yeah - I'm a "Retro-gamer" - and there's no need to wrap that up "more positive".

;p
I didn't mean retro gamer sounds negative, I meant the term "old gamer" in my own post, ( hence why I tried to come up with slightly more flattering alternatives ). Retro gamer just sounds weird. :P

It just gives me this mental image of some teenagers or twenty-somethings who only play old games because it's chic and trendy nowadays, not because they have any real interest in classic video games & gaming history.

And people ( including you ) can call themselves whatever they want, if they're happy with it. But since you also play modern games, I'd simply call you a gamer ( with a strong interest in classic video gaming ). :D

Of course, nowadays even the term gamer is almost an insult... But that's a different topic. *le sigh*

d13_michael: In that case you might wait for quite a long time. As this won't happen all too soon.
The bundle we did back in the days was to get some more followers and it actually helped to increase the fanbase quite a lot.

If everything goes well, CrossCode will fully launch before or in September. Don't expect to be the game any cheaper than now till then. And till at least a year after the full release :)

CharlesGrey: I don't think any dev or publisher ever intends to heavily discount or bundle their games shortly after release, and yet it happens all the time.

Hopefully that won't be needed here, if the game turns out to be good and successful, but you never know.

What was the price point during that bundle period, anyway?

Wervyn: It's pretty natural to be skeptical of early-access projects these days but this one is worth at least keeping an eye on...
avatar
CharlesGrey: That, I shall do. Thanks for the extra info about the game!
avatar
Alfrodull: I won't say for the other people, but I personally got tired of almost endless stream of quasi-retro games here on GOG, and I got tired of almost endless stream of JRPG of all sorts here.
Former ones are just BAD, and latter ones are all identical.
avatar
CharlesGrey: To be fair, we still don't have many J-RPGs on GOG, at least compared to other genres. And Japanese releases of any kind are still rare here.
Japanese publishers do seem to love their DRM...
I am short on cash ATM, but I have no problem paying full price for it when I do.

You realize that there even is an international magazine called Retro Gamer? And it's around for 13 years now, so it's definitely not a hipster thing.

Hipsters have their own magazines now? (⌐■_■) ... J/K

Maybe that's just me, but I always associated the term retro with younger generations who (re)discover technology or fashion styles of past generations. As someone who grew up during the early days of video gaming, I don't think of those games as retro, to me they're just games. I don't really see the need or point for a distinction. ( And where do you draw the line, anyway? Won't today's games be "retro" too, eventually? )

When you invite some friends over to play some NES, Dreamcast, or old PC LAN games, would you seriously tell them "Hey guys, come over, I'm in the mood for some retro gaming"?

If I would like to play some old games and don't have a particular one in mind, I would indeed say something like that (not exactly what you wrote, but I would probably use the word "retro").

I don't want my friends to be disappointed, because they expect GTA V and I want to play Pong instead. ;)

CharlesGrey: As someone who grew up during the early days of video gaming,
As did I. Started my "gaming career" with TV-Games, Pong, Atari 2600, etc.

Well, you don't see the point - I (we?) do, obviously. ;)

CharlesGrey: ( And where do you draw the line, anyway? Won't today's games be "retro" too, eventually? )
Sure - given enough time, everything becomes "retro".
Retro as in "out of style", "with outdated control scheme", "needs certain outdated OS/ hardware to run", etc.

See, you keep asking these questions a la "Does anyone here actually call themselves a "retro-gamer"?" and
"Would you seriously tell them "Hey guys, come over, I'm in the mood for some retro gaming"?" - and the answer is always the same: Yes! Actually I (we?) do that.
Even if it's hard for you to believe - I'm not kidding you.
And I'm not the only one, if my brother and my friends are any indicators to go by.
We call it "einen Retro-Abend abhalten". :o)

Edit: as PaterAlf wrote: "I don't want my friends to be disappointed, because they expect GTA V and I want to play Pong instead. ;)"

Our term "Retro-Abend" makes sure everyone knows what is "planned" for the evening - old games played on old hardware.

Else we'd just call it a normal "Spiele-Abend".

Yeah, but "Retro Evening" just sounds so much better in German. :)
Looks pretty cool. Had never heard about it and now it's wishlisted :p

Thank you very much for releasing it here as well. I tried the demo and it was an insta-buy.

The whole game feels so smooth, from the menu navigation to the exploration and combat, the art is beaultiful, the soundtrack and effects are very good... so much attention to little details like being able to choose between Xbox or Dualshock prompts... it's a very well polished game.
