Take the chance to return to Faerûn, a magic land that needs heroes more than ever. A vicious cult marches across the Sword Coast, uniting every race of monsters and men under the banner of a cryptic god they call the Absolute.

As chaos strikes at Faerûn's foundations, not even you may escape its talons. Imprisoned by the mind flayers, you're being infected with their horrid parasite. Before you can become one of them, mind flyers’ airship crashes in the Sword Coast outlands. You set out for civilization, desperate for a cure for the parasite festering in your brain… only to discover that all roads lead to the legendary city of Baldur's Gate.

Time4Tea: Fingers crossed for a native Linux port at some point, given it's using Vulkan :-)
...
They had a last-minute surprise for MAC users. So one can only hope :)

Mafwek: Considering that time-lapse between BG 2 and D&D 5E Forgotten Realms is around 150 years, I seriously doubt that import of BG character is possible.

paladin181: My BG 2 character was an elf. soooooo. 150 years isn't a prohibitive amount of time. But further, how will they know what choices I made to affect the events in this game, if the unfolding of events is based on events in BG/BG2? Are they just going to guess? Ask you, like in TW 3? Or are they just going to assume that I made certain choices because OF COURSE that's how everyone played the game?
The hero from the bhaalspawn saga canonically died in the final battle against the other last remaining bhaalspawn long after Baldur's Gate 2. The victor of that confrontation became a monster that was put down by a band of heroes defending Baldur's Gate. With the death of all Bhaalspawn - Bhaal was reborn, his plan a success - though it occurred in a way he didn't expect.

Some aspect of the original BG hero may have survived since Bhaal's plan wasn't completed perfectly. It could be the hero of BG3 is the original BG hero reborn somehow. This of course would piss of Bhaal to no end and would make that hero an enemy of the God of murder...

In your place, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Larian is anti-Linux company. They did not make a single Linux game, ordered a piss-poor Linux port of "D:OS" (only because they were obliged to by Kickstarter promises) almost two years after the release (because they were waiting for the game to be "stable", in other words they were waiting for the game to enter the end-of-life state without any further updates), let it rot without any fixes and have been avoiding Linux ever since.

I think at this point they are done with Linux entirely, preferring to port Vulkan-based games on Metal-based MacOS (and soon with ARM CPU based hardware :) ) instead.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 also has a MAC port, yet we never had a Linux release.

What's wrong with the Linux port of D:OS? Runs very well indeed for me, even on integrated graphics on an old X230 laptop. If we got a Linux port of BG3 of similar quality I'd snap it up.
Nice :)

It seems the dev forgot to update the art cover of the game on GOG. The logo on an empty white background looks quite weird.

Does anyone know if I can get the original baldurs gate not enhanced on here?

It is here, as a bonus attached to the enhanced edition. So no, a separate release is not going to happen.

Maybe they could at least attach those as a bonus for BG 3 as well, that would be kinda cool, but I doubt it.

Yes, and -- unfortunately -- "canonically" that hero is Abdel Adrian, a male-human fighter and the protagonist from the "official" Baldur's Gate novels. Canonically, our personal hero from the game has already been retconned out of the official lore and replaced by a specific character who made very specific decisions. If BG3 makes any assumptions about specific actions that the hero of Baldur's Gate took, they're going to go off what Abdel did.

Up until a couple years ago, Abel was technically the "official" canonical protagonist, but outside of a couple references in Dragon Magazine he was never actually referenced by name in any D&D source material. And specific events from the games were often referenced in a way that left some ambiguity as to what really happened, how much influence your character actually had on the event and what his or her true motivation was. So whatever you did in-game could still fit in with the lore, with the concession that the real truth may be blurred in some cases by the propaganda and "fake news" given by certain power-groups.

Then Wizards of the Coast released "Murder in Baldur's Gate" in 2013 which officially gave a big "F*** YOU!" to every Baldur's Gate player by saying "doesn't matter what you did -- THIS is the official character, THIS is what he did during the games and THIS is what became of him. And going forward, we're going to release even more information that will completely invalidate the character you invested 200+ hours into."

After that, I became a fierce supporter of NOT continuing the story of the protagonist from BG1 & 2. If "Abdel" is referenced in any way in BG3, it's going to be a serious gut-punch. That would be even worse than making assumptions about what my character did -- it would be telling me straight to my face that my character that I adventured and role-played with for several YEARS means absolutely nothing. Yeah, I already know that. But I don't want to keep being reminded of it every time The Time of Troubles is referenced.

The events from BG3 could still be influenced by "the legacy of Bhaal" in a lot of ways without needing to call upon very specific actions our BG1/2 character did. Some events happen regardless of our decisions -- we just go into them with different motivations. And there were plenty of events that happened completely outside of our specific character's area of influence. I'm really hoping BG3 simply focuses on the continuing story of Bhaal's resurrecting himself and not our specific BG1/2 character's involvement in that.

With all that context, I hope everyone can understand why I say that the best tribute Larian can give to old-school BG fans is to NOT reference the character from the first two games in any more than a very high-level and vague manner.
