Take the chance to return to Faerûn, a magic land that needs heroes more than ever. A vicious cult marches across the Sword Coast, uniting every race of monsters and men under the banner of a cryptic god they call the Absolute.

As chaos strikes at Faerûn's foundations, not even you may escape its talons. Imprisoned by the mind flayers, you're being infected with their horrid parasite. Before you can become one of them, mind flyers’ airship crashes in the Sword Coast outlands. You set out for civilization, desperate for a cure for the parasite festering in your brain… only to discover that all roads lead to the legendary city of Baldur's Gate.

Im awake. I dont care if its the best looking rpg in existence if the story/gameplay/mechanics are very ordinary if the link above review is anything close to the reality of the game.

For the reasons already mentioned, the review above does not seem like a good source for anything. The metacritic page seems to have a very long and exhaustive list. I'd much rather roll dice and pick samples from that list than stick to that particular one.

Big and complex game is ok for you then? Or you need it short and linear?

salman.rvf: Can this be played as a local co-op?
avatar
J Lo: I don't think so. Something like that would need controllers, which is not a feature listed on the store page. The GoG page just says "co-op". The Steam page shows "online co-op" and "LAN co-op".
There isn't controller support yet but it is planned to be added during Early Access.
It was possible to play DO:S 1 and 2 in local co-op and this one game shouldn't be any other. At least it was announced with this feature.
It should certainly be possible when controller support is added. It may be possible if you have 2 keyboards and mice but I can't say for sure.

blotunga: First reviews are out and unfortunately it does not look good. Too bad really, I was hoping it will be a good game. Maybe Obsidian should've made it instead of Larian: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/10/baldurs-gate-3-early-access-mediocre-rpg-amazing-rendering-engine/
What's the point of trying to make the game look bad? You're allowed not to buy it even if it's good.

I don't want to make it look bad. I wished it was more Baldurs Gate-y. Seems like it's not.

This still has nothing on COD: MW Reboot being around 250GB of HDD space now.
Also, there are bigger games out there, bigger than BG3 - i.e. Gears 4 is over 130GB.

Also, let's keep in mind: Larian's BG3 isn't even complete; still in Early Access/In Development and doesn't have all its
Acts.

Wouldn't surprise me to see it be in the 150-200GB range at some point, once it's actually complete and got some patches behind it.

High-end textures, high-end audio voice-work, huge big-sized games, etc etc - yeah, this stuff eats up space.

There is quite a bit of difference though between picking that one outlier review and then claiming the game will not be a "good game" and saying that storywise it seems to be going into a direction you don't feel comfortable with and that probably makes it a "pass" for you.

Just like he's allowed to not buy it even if it is considered good by most, he's also allowed to not like it even when others do. Arguing won't likely change someone's opinion, even if that opinion is based on inaccurate information.

I don't yet know if I'll buy it or not. But from what I read about the story, I will wait for a deep discount. Story for me, in a RPG is quintessencial. Without it it's just a hollow shell, no matter how much eye-candy it has.

I'm not arguing about whether he is allowed to like/buy/whatever it or not. I'm irked by the way he bent his review selection (as well as implying it's some kind of established consensus in the reviews) and choice of words into a general indictment of the game. That feels a lot like those who try to use selective facts to spin something that does not fit their agenda (of whatever) into a specific direction. I have seen threads derail and games suffer for less.

Had he simply said something on the line of "Looking at (link), I'm not happy with the direction this seems to be going" we would not be having this conversation.

GOG.com:
The regional price is more than $17 above the US price!? No, thanks!

With that greed and no Linux support I'll wait for a very high discount...
I was wondering... what is the point of "early access" games if you even have to pay full price for it?
You are basically doing something that once was considered a paid job (beta testing) by actually paying for it, never knowing how the final product will turn out to be. Or *if* there will be a final product (Larian is a trustworthy software house, so I wouldn't put that in doubt there, but still this is a huge point in the general practice, imo).

When did the world tunr upside down?

BitMaster_1980: Considering that the guy spent nearly a page of a three page article ranting about an action/movement system which appears to be an accurate reflection of the tabletop rules the game is explicitly based on, I'm not going to put much stock into his opinion.
That seems to be the most relevant negative from where I'm standing. That adherence to the tabletop rules in general I mean, and all that random chance that just means save scumming (nope, will not just go with whatever the roll comes out as on non-combat checks, or even in combat on crucial ones). And turn based instead of RTwP already is quite a nuisance for this type of game for me, but then splitting between movement and action in that manner makes no sense whatsoever and is a huge flaw. Whether you want to call it a flaw of the game or of the system the game insists on implementing, it's the same result.

Otherwise though, a party of characters that somehow need to work together despite how they feel about each other, and a game world where you need to really do whatever it takes to achieve your goal, those have their appeal, and if done right may even be refreshing.
The long term unintended consequences thing would make me dread to do anything, on the other hand.

But with over a year of in dev coming (and darn good question Enebias, not to mention eiii's note), I'll judge after it's actually fully released and complete... which may well be long after the "full" release, in fact.
