So... When will the links to the store page be restored in our libraries? For bundled (now unbundled) games, the title when you open it does not have a link to the store page like other games. Will this be restored?

ssokolow: I own over 2/3rds of GOG's catalog and some unbundled games have started to show up in my shelf. Give me a few examples of "the recent" and I'll see if I can figure it out for you.

Alex_Kagansky: Here are examples of distributions that I currently can't decompress using external tools:

- Disciples II (both Dark Prophecy and Rise of the Elves)
- Earthworm Jim (1 and 2)
- King's Quest 7
- Might & Magic: Swords of Xeen
- Might & Magic: World of Xeen
- Might & Magic IV: The Mandate of Heaven
- Ys Chronicles (1 and 2)
Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 are in my collection and have been unbundled.

No clue why innounp is having trouble with it but innoextract has no problem and it's also available for Windows.

Thank you very much! Innoextract works. It was my fault, because I used "innounp" instead.
Do we have a list with all the games that have been unbundled so far?
Seems like a pretty decent idea, I do think a few of the games (Cognition in particular) should remain bundled or be rebundled, but otherwise seems great.

silalus: Unlike a lot of folks complaining in this thread (some with very understandable complaints) I fully support the unbundling. And I have a little over 100 games in my library, many of which are impacted, so this is a pretty big thing to me too.

I was actually just thinking about downloading the Quest for Glory series on my underpowered little extra-tiny laptop, and decided not to bother- I really only wanted 1 and 2 on there, and the whole bundle was just too big to bother with on that little go-cart of a machine. So this is great- I'll actually be using it really soon.

However this does make something really clear: we desperately need better organizational tools for our libraries.

I want to have options to:

*Group games by series and then explode those into the individual games.
*Sort by original release date.
*Sort by rating (yeah, I use this to decide what to play next sometimes).
*Sort by most recently updated.
*Filter by... stuff like the above.

For those unaware someone has made an awesome tool that can do some of this for us at this site. GoG really ought to learn from this tool and implement some of these awesome features for their site.
I think that it doesn't make the slighest difference if GOG decided that the extras would all be considered "a separate item" so long as they provided tools to allow the end user to bundle things exactly the way said user wants them. More than just series or ratings, but... akin to making a directory tree on a computer. No restrictions, just let you do it.

The more I think about this, the more I think it's a disaster.

I have no knowledge of the new client, so I have no idea how this will work, but I don't intend to use it, so I really don't give a toss about it.

I just know that my shelf is now an unholy mess, people are saying "you can list them lphabetically" which is completely feeble logic, because A) I prefer to keep my genres together, and B) games that were previously bundled together are often going to be listed in different parts of the aplhabet.

But th business about "smaller downloads" is complete rubbish. For those games that were previously bundled, and came with a single installer, updating was easy: point the Downloader at the bundle's folder, and launch the download, and only updated files get downloaded. Simple. But now, if a game that previously bundled gets an upload, the Downloader isn't going to recognise the bundle's installation files, and so THE WHOLE DAMNED THING is going to have to be downloaded, all over again. And then, to manage your offline files, you either keep the bundle files PLUS the downloaded version of the updated game, or you blow away the bundle and completely re-download all the component games in separate packs, complete with the duplication of ancillary files and installer code.

That is NOT "smaller downloads"!

Wow, GOG. I HATE this idea. I HATE that it makes things more complex for your customers. I HATE that it's a retrograde step in logic. But most of all, I REALLY HATE that, instead of having the balls to be honest and say, "OK, you're probably going to find this inconvenient, but it's what we've chosen to do, and here's why", you're actually bullshitting your customers and, as you've done so many times (for instance, with the regional pricing that you claim is "fairer" but is really only fairer to GOG itself), you're trying to convince us that this is good for us.

That's just disgusting, GOG.

Yes, but all the mess up and the inconvenience doesn't it make you feel just a bit more like to use the client to "solve" these problems? hint hint nudge nudge. :(

I will never use the client and the only thing that GOG manages is to make me feel more annoyed with the way this is done.
I don't want any fraking client, not now not ever. If I wanted another Steam I would use just Steam.

I'm indifferent about the client until it's completely released, though chances are high I won't use it either. Anyway, don't underestimate it's functional additions, like achievements and enhanced multiplayer support for some games. There are players who love both and they might greatly benefit from GOG Galaxy. I think especially the support of in-game achievements will be a catcher.
Imo, the unbundling is not only a design decision, but also to reduce (automatic-)downloads in the long run. A client that runs on more systems than the GOG Downloader today, will produce far more traffic keeping all downloads up-to-date. It's probably more to reduce costs than to please customers. For lots of us download sizes don't matter very much, but still, smaller downloads is nothing bad. On the other hand, they could have achieved this without unbundling the games on the shelf, e.g. by offering several installers per game and by implementing a proper file versioning.
I can live with unbundling of distinct games, but having several boxes for episodes and chapters feels bloated and cluttered, let alone the current performance issues in shelf-view. Who knows, maybe one day we get more shelf features, like subfolders, too. That could solve some of the new issues.

I now have to re-download what looks like hundreds of games that have just been unbundled, but I'd really prefer not to use the GOG Downloader.

Does anyone know of a third party downloader that allows you to chose where each download goes individually, and then remembers that location so it can compare its contents with the source files on the GOG servers?

Galaxy can't come soon enough.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for when you say "allows you to chose where each download goes individually, and then remembers that location".

Depending on which possible interpretation is correct, either nothing yet in existence is likely to fit the bill or lgogdownloader (for Linux) might.

I can see a lot of good reasons to make individual installations, etc, but I appreciate the fact you understand that some of us don't like the fact our library got messed up in the process and there needs to be tools to fix the clutter GOG made by doing this. Thanks.

I was afraid of that :(

How about just a downloader that allows me to chose the locations, and can check the local files against GOGs version when I manually point to them?

GOG Downloader can do the checking thing now, but it does not allow for directories. Every single game can only go into one directory. Thats total pants.
