Can anybody tell me why is gog unbundling such games as Castles 1+2, Realms of Arkania, Master of Orion bundle and Incredible Machine that are already tiny in size?

mrkgnao: Happy St. Unbundle's Day.

IAmSinistar: He's the saint that drove all the logical game groupings out of Gogland, yes?
Indeed. And no less famous for using the shamrock to illustrate the metaphysical nature of one game unbundled into three.

Gladly. Because it has nothing to do with file size. It's real purpose is (take your pick):
1) Better hide the missing Fallout
2) More opportunities for product_bonus_xxxxx bonuses
3) For Galaxy

Well my shelf just went from 499 to 580 and still have 2 bundles that are still packed together. I don't mind the new change though two of my Sierra games seem to be missing their EGA or VGA counter parts as I see a box for Hero's Quest which I take is the EGA version of QFG1 but there is not one for VGA Quest for glory 1 nor can I find a box for the EGA version of Police Quest 1 just one marked "VGA". Also I admit re-orginizing my shelf has been a bit of a chore but that is mainly due to how I have my virtual self/libary set up.

So far I got Ultima's 1-7 as well as Underworld 1+2 back where they should be, same with Might and Magic 1-6, Ishar series, Lands of Lore 1+2, the Blackwell bundle, QFG, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry and Police Quest, Duke Nukem 1+2, Drod 1-3, Goblins pack and the Tomb Raider's to name a few. All I have left right now is just replace the heroes of might and magic chronicles, Neighbors from hell and two other bundles and I am set till the next bunch of splits happen, which won't be so bad for me since it would just be the Catacombs and Dangerous Dave packs.

high rated
Taking Heroes Chronicles for example, the previous installer was 669MB in size. Now, each Chapter is over 400MB in size. This means that instead of having the whole game take less than 1GB, I now need over 3GB for what are essentially different scenarios for the same game!

I realise you want to do good by your customers GOG, but I must repeat myself in saying that this is bloody ridiculous!

Ciris: Will every cover have its own cover art?
Definitely!
While they do, it's quite a disappointing one in some cases. The Quest for Glory series, for instance, was given the same cover with only different titles.

Are these temporary placeholders? Or are we stuck with the current ones?

Neither is on the list to be unbundled.

Well, it does make it look like they have more Classic releases. ~_~

DyNaer: i'm almost sure two worlds 2 & castle defense share the same key (but they could have indicated it in both entries -_-)

well i written only one key for the epic edition (i could forgot the second key , but i doubt)
The serial is used to unlock Two Worlds' 2 multiplayer. Castle Defense is a single player-only game and, thus, doesn't any key.

DyNaer: Avernun 6 is back , make an account refresh "again"
It's back now, but Hammers of Fate is still missing.

so they just placed the key in the wrong entry, i wasn't sure , if castle defense have a cd-key (i have it on steam, only this one not the main game, and there's a cd-key attached)

nevertheless i 'm almost sure there were only one key for the epic edition.

and well multiplayer in the two worlds games, lol :)

Ah well that's one less thing to take care off. Seems I am set.
I really like that the text on the covers is so tiny and red on the previous 'Commandos Ammo Pack' games. That doesn't make it illegible at all.
So... I am not the biggest fan of this unbundling. The naming of the games is a mess and having now the same covers next to each other several times is not nice to look at (Cognition, Quest for Glory, Zork, Incredible Machine).
But the biggest question:
Where the heck is my Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Hammers of Fate expansion...
I'm thankfully (??) mostly unaffected by this change for the moment-only the Cognition covers have changed for me, but this luck won't last for long. I'm mostly against this change because facilitating the download of smaller files is rather redundant considering they recently made harder the downloading of bigger files (to people new to this thread: I expanded on that topic a few days ago and were mostly ignored...) and the library will become unwieldy because of all that change. Seriously, haven't the GOG guys heard the saying "If it ain't broken don't fix it?" ?

Anyways, to people nostalgic of the old covers I've amassed the pre-unbundling covers from games that I own in a folder and put it over at Dropbox. I added both smaller shelf images and the bigger versions (without the bbc_20 part). I will probably add more shelf pics I might find from various GOGmixes.

edit2-I initially had it over at OneDrive but then thought that if one poked around the page he'd be able to see my real life name and I don't want that to happen...

Wow, lots of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Maybe wait a week or two and see how the database settles out before complaining? Our games are there, I hope we can trust GOG to save our data.

Bundled with Heroes of Might and Magic 5...

Unbundled games have no more links to the pages where they are sold.
