Tannath: Argh. Why doesn't GOG just finish one thing at a time? That's the only way to get anything done right...

Grargar: I think the unbundling was a step to prepare for the launch of the Galaxy client. I hope that the new account system will be ready in time for the launch of Witcher 3 (otherwise, I fear that we'll be getting lots of complaints).
That's not true. GOG said that the unbundling has nothing to do with the Galaxy Client, but was done because 17 people wishlist this.

AFAIK they never mentioned the wishlist. I am sure they get feature requests a bunch of ways(PMs, forum threads, Twitter, support tickets, conferences, etc).

Good one!
That's cool, will just make it appear I own more games here lol

Tannath: So, we are now 7 weeks into the 2 week unbundling...

Seriously though, any idea how much longer this will take?
They are finished until they cannot think any more ways to butcher their compilation CD sources.

To my delight, I accidentily looked at my Heroes of Might & Magic 5 library page and noticed that the game is only randomly half-unbundled: http://i.imgur.com/GDHKO6S.png

Because Hammer of Fate requires the base game and Tribes of the East doesn't.

That doesn't make sense for the end user , either heroes of might & magic 5 package is splitted : each expansion is under a new entry in the library , either they are all avaible seperatly as seperate download under might & magic 5 entry.

the solution offered is a mix of both ; because one expansion need the base game & other is a standalone.....

I don't really see the point to have created a new entry for x standalone expansion; instead they should have offered different link under the same game entry , it's not like a standalone expansion is totaly different game.

They just unbundled some games without any consideration, just because it was possible to do so.. and right now my library is populated by full games standalone expansions , episodic games = that's just a mess.

Only totaly different games should have been unbundled under a different entry.

The old installers already installed the expansions on different folders if they were standalone. They even have standalone expansions on sale, like Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business.

And yes, they could have offered each expansion as a free DLC or something like that, but then they would have to maintain different builds for each game.

By the way, even before the unbundling, some games were all over the library. Beyond Divinity and Divine Divinity, Betrayal at Krondor and Return to Krondor, Ultima and Worlds of Ultima, etc.

- i don't doubt about that (i don't own Heroes of Might & Magic 5 package)

i was speaking how it is presented in the library

Beyond Divinity is the sequel to Divinity Divinity, so it's a total different game

Worlds of ulima the savage empire & Ultima;Worlds of Adventure 2 : Martian Dreams : 'i'm fine with them.

Betrayal at Krondor & Return to Krondor :

one was one a package with Betrayal in Antara , the other was alone if i'm correct. , no problem either.

Still GOG need to solve the duplicate bonus problem , and the product_bonus_xxxxx.

what are you saying is basically what they did but they decided each standalone expansion should have its own entry instead to have them tied to their respective base game entry in the library.

Since they unbundled those games like this , they have more game installers to create ; my problem isn't there , my problem is the presentation.

Besically they butchered packages they sold , for some it was understandable, but for expansions & some episodic games not really...following blindly a rule for everything is just a bad idea. >

Plus saying those seperate installers will be smaller, it's true if taken seperatly , but if you add the same content to equal an old package it's a lie ie : Heroes Chronicles (the worst case).

Why isn't it just as simple as: I buy something, it appears as an entry on my shelf with a link back to the product page. If it's a bundle containing multiple games, each installer is separately downloadable under that entry. Heck, even GamersGate gets that right, and they lie about being DRM-free!? And GOG's store structure seems to already support this easily.

Whether episodic games appear as separate installers is more controversial, of course, but each episode as a separate top-level shelf item is just nonsense!

Right now it seems unbundled games don't all link back to the store page for the full bundle, for example I saw a game called Planetfall in my library and was unsure as to what it was, so I clicked on it and was unable to get any further information. I had to do a Google search to learn it is part of the Zork anthology. Is this going to be addressed I wonder.

My guess is that this is because that would require Galaxy to support multiple install options under one box (e.g. install KQ1, install KQ2, install KQ3) and it doesn't seem to be able to do that at the moment (there is just a single install button per box).

That said, I wonder how it will support DLC installation.

If I understood GOG correctly, then the answer is no, at least not until the new account system is released.

Exactly (DLC and non-standalone expansions), it's something they have to implement for Galaxy anyway. So why all the mess on our shelves in the first place?

I would like a next page button, as showing over 300 games on the game list is slowing my dual core system down. Can we have 50 games per page or something introduced for those with slower computers, thank you.
