Why do people insist with the manual ordering?
I have never found a site that kept it for long.. it always gets disrupted, so it's just a waste of time :\

Agreed. I'd only use it if they offered and API for backing up or restoring the ordering as a batch operation.

(Which'd also make it easy to do the sorting in the first place, since it'd be much quicker to do the sorting if it could be done without round-trip latency on each move and possibly with a custom mouseless UI.)

Got 582 games and my libary has stayed just fine, save for the dispersing/re-appearing Fallout 1

mrkgnao: That was my understanding too.
Tested mine just now. It is broken.
We need someone with a small library to report.

lobo_1: Hi,

My library used to keep it's order up to the 630th title before. Any more games and you can forget about keeping them in order.

I love the manual ordering, because it helps me to keep an overview about the games that 've completed, installed and played. When you have a huge collection, it's very helpful in my eyes. Besides that the alphabetical ordering of GOG doesn't work very well (you can read lots of complains about it in this thread) and so I use the manual sorting to correct it (and to keep series together).

Heh. 640k is an interesting number that a lot of younger folks never looked into.

For those who don't know, the 8088 chip used in the original IBM PC accessed memory using two 16-bit numbers:
1. A memory address from 0 to 64k
2. A segment offset delimited in multiples of 10 bytes. (That's where the 640k comes from. 64k * 10)

It's actually kind of funny how much legacy compatibility is still left in modern x86 CPUs. To boot up a 64-bit OS, you must first...
1. Toggle the A20 line to disable memory wrap-around at the 640k boundary. (286 CPUs and beyond)
2. Switch the CPU into protected mode for 32-bit operation (modern form introduced with the 386)
3. Switch the CPU into long mode for 64-bit operation (introduced by the AMD Opteron and Athlon 64 chips and copied by Intel after the failure of the Itanium)

That's why you can still boot DOS on a brand new 64-bit x86 CPU as long as motherboard's UEFI firmware includes legacy BIOS compatibility support.

I just:
1. Import my collection into IsThereAnyDeal.com (which covers all the vendors I buy from and has a field for unplayed/played/beaten/completed)
2. Use the search field to deal with GOG's collection when I need to (When you have ~780 games and had over 600 before unbundling, both shelf and list view are inadequate without the snappiness of a local application)
3. Use lgogdownloader to handle downloading
4. Rely on my own local mechanisms for keeping track of what's installed (eg. GOG will never track whether I've run `sudo apt-get install openttd` and that's one of my favourite games. Likewise, why would I bother with Star Control 2 when The Ur-Quan Masters is a native Linux port of the enhanced 3DO release?)

No no, I love organizing games too!
The point is that many sites don't care about preserving that order: unless they have proper categories\keywords\filters I don't even bother.

LOL nice (absurd) info!

I use a dynamic excel sheet for all my files, even if I still have to try it for GOG games (waiting for a new pc + less Galaxy mess).

Ciris: Hi, guys!

Following your many requests and in connection with preparing game libraries better for GOG Galaxy, we’re going to be starting what we’re calling unbundling games.

This means that multiple games that are bundled as one “product” (for instance: Tomb Raider 1+2+3) will no longer appear as one title on your game shelf, but rather - be split into individual items. This means more convenient downloads, smaller downloads if you just want to get one game, better representation of the games on your shelf, and being able to toggle installing and auto-updating titles from such a bundle in GOG Galaxy individually (should you decide use the client in the future once it's released).

Such bundles won't be unbundled in the store, so no price changes will happen - it's just a different way to display them on your shelf, which will make things easier for you and future software.

In the first "run" of such unbundlings - tomorrow - we'll take on two shelved items: Alien Breed + Tower Assault and American McGee's Grimm. Starting next Tuesday, we'll move on to unbundling all games in our library and this process will take a week. Before this process ends, you may still see some items on your shelf stay in bundles, but don't worry, their time will come as well and your game shelf will be neat once again. :)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and we'll do our best to answer them. We’re also awaiting your feedback in terms of how unbundling went for your games - we’ll be following this thread, so keep us informed of any issues!

[EDIT] full list of games: HERE
I love this change.

Why isn´t Rayman Forever unbundled too? It features three games:
* Rayman
* Rayman Designer
* Rayman by his fans

It even has a menu to select which one you want to play...

pisces72: Bad idea making this mandatory for everyone. Splitting up the games that have a Collection edition of very similar games makes the install a pain. The shelf has many bugs (links for forum and reviews do not work, wrong images).

Also, the first post says many people wanted this. Can someone link me to the wishlist topic?
Here you go. Just sit down comfortably before following the link in that post; the number of voices requesting this is overwhelming.
Does anyone know the games where this move has been successful (if any...)

There's a list of separated games here

Most of the smaller games and the DOSBOX stuff has bloomed in size - with all the unneeded overhead.

I obviously won't mention Heroes Chronicles for the 10th time =P

More modern games?

How about Commandos 2 + 3?

Surely there's got to be a size reduction there (in the installer) for someone who only wishes to play the 2nd (& best) game?

How about the Tomb Raiders' ?

Are we going to see less games sold as sets in the future - as already mentioned? (...paying more as a result)

My view ultimately is that it's perfectly logical to separate the games - but not if the installer size increases!

_Maximilian_: Hey, so I was looking at my library, and admiring the unbundling, when I noticed an absent space in my library. It was not there before, and my game ticker now says 151 games instead of 152. I doubt I actually lost any games, and I figure it has to do with recent changes to libraries and bundles. Anyone else have this issue?

Help a newb out!

moonshineshadow: Like Grargar said, it is probably Fallout 1. Don't worry, it will be back.
Ah ok, Thanks!

PaterAlf: I have a question: Is the manually shelf sorting broken for everyone right now or just for the people with huge collections? There are some post in this thread that make me believe it's the latter.
I stopped paying attention to this issue a while ago now, so the idea it may be linked to collection size is new to me. My Manual shelf stopped working years ago. Quite confidant I had over 600 games at the time. It is.. like a clue, or something.

Bothered me for a very long time. I'm over it now. Especially with Galaxy coming along nicely.

Sure, those are good examples in its favour. Ironically, there was a way to download and install only C2: get only the first bin file, and the installer wouldn't object. Not sure if it stayed like that for the latest installers, but it used to work. Regardless, the point remains valid

As to future sets, I don't see this change affecting their frequency. Rather, it's market forces that will dictate GOG's and the publishers' stances on the matter. This actually makes me more worried about the state of existing bundles when the time to renew their deals comes.
One thing is missing.

I didn't read through all the other forum posts because there are 1228 posts regarding this change.

I noticed that If you click on a game that was originally part of a bundle in the "Library" section, you can't click on the game title (which is no longer underlined) to take you too the store for the game itself. It does not affect games that are not part of a bundle, just the bundled games. Games I have noticed that are affected:

Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3
Avernum collection
Might & Magic Collection
Ultima Collections
Geneforge Saga
Blackwell collection.
Quest for Glory collection.
Ultima Underworld Collection.

I know these games can still be found via the store by going there and typing in the title, but some of the games are not easily too see that they are part of a collection, and some don't even show up on the store at all.

For instance.

DEUS? Crystals of Arborea? At first I didn't know what these games are and thought maybe they are part of the GOG free game series since sometimes I buy games and play them later, but noticed they are part of collections that I purchased that are completely different titles in the series.

Crystals of Arborea is part of the ISHAR Collection. and DEUS is the sequel to Robinson's Requiem.

Anyway I like the changes so far, but please, please add a hyperlink so I can just click on the title and it takes me to the game's store page. Doing a search for both those game titles in the game store yielded nothing, and If I didn't do a quick Google search I wouldn't have known what those titles are. The old system had them under the respective collections, so it was obvious it was part of those series.

Splitting up the games into their own titles just might have created more work, because I'm assuming GOG'll have to create a page for each game in the collections.
Anything not been split yet that probably should? All I can see is Alone in the Dark, and MAX / MAX2 from my collection. Any more?

Mostly just curious in case it is a small indication of when the unbundling will finish.
