I like owning the shit that I buy. Owning shit after you buy it is your right, one that you should and must not waiver. But seeing as you're a proud steam user... you deserve having to deal with all those launchers honestly. Please go reap what you sow quietly.

Shocker650: Sony removed PSN from the games they implemented in on Steam thanks to people voting with their wallet, and 2K did the same thing. Keep hating and missing out on games you would like to play.
I'm "missing out" on nothing (you and your endless "people like you" sure are unhealthily judgemental towards people you know nothing about)...

As for the 2k launcher in Bioshocks, I didn't even notice it for unlike the Steam version, it was never forced into my DRM-Free version in the first place... ;-)

Yea right, you are mising out on "nothing". That's why there are tons of games on the GOG wishlist with 10K-40K likes that are available on Steam since years, or sometimes 10 plus years.

You are for constant daily sh*t-posting / advertising of Steam on a competitor's store here. How many people here create Steam accounts just to mindlessly talk non-stop about other stores on Steam forums? No-one. How many people have Steam banned for politely asking if there's a GOG version with a fraction of the hostility you've brought here? Lots. If you want to advertise Steam non-stop (against the forum rules BTW), take your whiny rants to the Steam forums, otherwise you might want to reflect why YOU signed up here if anything not Steam is so "awful" for you...

I didn't brought any hostility. I was just asking others opinions about having a launcher within another launcher. This was originally supposed to be a healthy discussion with fellow PC gamers, and than the hostility towards Steam and DRM began from the majority of people who responded. I wasn't the one who made a fanboy war out of this thread. Show me when did I said that anything outside of Steam is awful for me.

Yes you did. "You people" this, "you people" that. "Everyone but me a hater". It's been nothing but an endless stream of personal attacks...

It turns out people on a DRM-Free game store dislike DRM in their games? No shit. Congrats on finally figuring out what GOG is all about...

Shocker650: Steam was made with the purpose to make PC gaming better and more convenient, while the rest (not counting GOG) was made for the sole purpose to get the financial success that Steam got. Of course none of them succeeded.
I would guess that by now we all are on the same page that that's not why steam was created...

Just let him suffer from the torture that is having to install one more steam on top of the steam that he installed, and let him do that quietly. He should reap what he sowed in quietness. He has nothing new to offer...

Who would guessed that asking about launchers/clients/DRM on GOG foruns would brought some "Steam hostility". Not everyone made a GOG account to "support the dev" and buy a couple of CDPR games, some of us actually like the way GOG works and are not missing any games at all.

You keep regurgitating the word "fanboy" and "hater" but what you seem to miss is that many regulars in this forum actually have and use a Steam account, including me. I believe this kind of attitude os better suited to reddit.

Keep in mind that Steam games are mostly worthless unless you have Steam installed, internet access and a supported operating system. Many people PC's don't meet the quota and Steam is not a option.
As a exemple, my living room PC don't have and will never have Steam installed, the only way to be able to play some videogames in it is without DRM, wither from GOG, Itch or even from Steam and Epic (many can be played without the client), in that regard, GOG is way more convinient than any other store.

PookaMustard: At this point I have even less of an idea than I did before, all I can say is "the Valve logo". There's no other reason why idiots see Steam as "God" but when Epic decides to make Epic Steam suddenly "Tencent has stakes in Epic" becomes a problem and all of a sudden they care about data collection/privacy.

Or funnier yet the complaints about "exclusivity", Darwinia was made into a Steam exclusive years back and even had its Linux version delisted because Steam did not support Linux. Now everyone wants me to praise Valve for making Linux a far easier platform for them to conquer by making a fork of Wine and porting their DRM. But yes, plenty of games exclusive to Steam, where were the "epic exclusives bad" guys back then? Does having a closed source, constantly updating black box software sending data home only matter to these people if a possible destination is "China" but not when the destination is the "United States of America"?
Yes to all of this unfortunately. Its not ok if China harvests private data but its ok if its America does it because reasons. Deepseek bad but Open AI good. Tik Tok bad but Facebook/Twitter good.

Valve also did a really good job creating the Good Guy Valve persona where many fans seem to think Valve and Steam are the only moral devs in the gaming industry despite their history of also doing bad things for gaming (see OP(. Honestly wish people read about the companies they are apparently fans of and recognize that while you can enjoy their products, no corporation is your "friend."

Shocker650: Valve as a company and Steam as a store/launcher will outlive all of us, so no, I'm not worried about my Steam games at all. Valve makes more money off of Steam than you can imagine. They won't go down, no matter what some of you haters think.
Bro, just go back to steam and play your supposedly hundreds of games you apparently have. Steam only survives if people keep playing on it and honestly, I do think Steam's dominance will come to an end. Epic is likely going to make a big dent given many younger gamers love Fortnite (Epic exclusive) and I wouldnt be surprised if more younger gamers are moving to Epic.

Also FYI, the average lifespan of a multinational Fortune 500 corporation is 40 to 50 years (which Valve is not). As another user mentioned, Valve's biggest weakness is Gabe Newell. Gabe is 62 and owns at least 25% of Valve. He is already becoming less involved with Valve as of 2024 and its very feasible he could retire early. He could keep the 25% but could also consider selling. Valve's valuation is $7.7 billion so 25% would be a little under $2 Billion. Im sure Tencent, EA, Microsoft, or eccentric billionaires like Elon Musk would love to buy up those shares for a premium. And what happens when a huge corporation buys up a smaller private company or there is a huge change in leadership and philosophy?

Tokyo_Bunny_8990: billionaires like Elon Musk
Then he could really show everyone what a great gamer he is :D
I'm pretty sure this is a troll bait thread lol. (grabs popcorn)

It doesn't matter what I say, I will be the troll asshole, and everything I will say is wrong, while everything you say is right. The easiest way to make someone on a forum angry and combative is to tell that that you disagree with them, or that they might not be right about something. I'm out. Have a nice day.

Honestly, I'm far from certain Steam will outlive me and I reckon I got another 40 to 50 years to go. It definitely will not outlive my kids.

Name me companies that are at least 50 years old that are operating now as they did back then. IBM is a reasonably old company that used to sell laptops. They sold that off to Lenovo. Sega used to make consoles. Now they only make games. DotEmu used to be a game store like GOG. Now, that is gone and they only make games.

Steam is mostly located in the US. Look at their political landscape right now. Does it strike you as a stable place to do business internationally atm? What about a natural disaster happening in the wrong place? What if some cyber-criminal network leverage a zero-day exploit against them, hack the heck out of their system and they leak tons of user data plus their system becomes unavailable for weeks? What if the EU decides that their price parity clause is anti-competitive, force them to forgo that and a new store with 10% take pops up where games are significantly cheaper on average? What if the US stop their currently corporate welfare policies, go back to 60s style policy and break Steam up with some anti-trust measure? What if someone incompetent get at the helm and drives Steam into the ground (cutting on operational costs to save money and making the platform flakey, going more gun-oh on the ban hammer and losing goodwill, etc) ?

Private commercial entities are not stable. They go under or morph beyond all recognition all the time. Even the giants.

I'm no data expert but I've been thinking, wouldn't my data also be at a lower risk of being used against me or even worth anything at all if it's going to a foreign society?

Not that anybody should be voluntarily giving up their data, but for someone like me in the UK it feels safer for my data to go to some server in China as opposed to my ISP (and, by extension, government). Alternatively, if you live in China, having your data accessible by some server in Netherlands is likely less concerning than your government.
