I want to do a little retrospective on PnC games since they are great stuff out there like Longest Journey,Syberia,Gabriel Knight and every LA games out there.
What I want to do is play and write a little review of the games that are on my library and if you guys want to contribute, post here your thoughts on your favourite or most hated adventure games. You're welcome to do so.
But I want to start off with Kingdom:The Far Reaches. By far the worst GOG game I own. It's a cheap Dragon's Lair knockoff without any of the charm of the original and animation,oh God the animation. It's so stiff and lifeless that makes the 80's TMNT and Transformers cartoons look like Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, the gameplay is Sierra Online games on acid. Trial and error but without anything that made those games fun and enjoyable and some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard, worse than House of the Dead 2 or Re1.

[EDIT] Sorry for the typo on the thread name. I'm really drunk now and can't speak properly let alone type.

I think the best license-based adventure games have to be Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites. They are very faithful to the spirit of The Original Series. There are multiple solutions for each episode, though you will receive points for acting as the ideal captain. That said, you can spread misery and jingoism during your adventures. These are the voyages of Captain T. Jerk...

I've always been a fan of all things Sierra and LucasArts.

For those not Sierra, I really enjoyed Sanitarium (here on GOG), and "Circle of Blood" (as it was when I purchased it on CD) which now goes by the name of "Broken Sword" (also here on GOG).

Of the LucasArts games, I hope that GOG can get Full Throttle. The animations, the soundtrack and the the story were great. That team actually went into making a game play like a movie, tons of fun.

Don't discount TellTale games either, I enjoyed "The Walking Dead" (haven't finished it, so I've not moved on to 400 days or the 2nd installment).

There were the games which were kind of "off the beaten path", like "I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream" and "Beneath a Steel Sky", both of which had their puzzling moments.

One game I played, and would like to see on GOG is "Companions of Xanth".

Probably in licence hell, along with Death Gate and Shannara...

But hell, I would really celebrate if most, if not all of the old Legend adventures could come here: Superhero League of Hoboken, TimeQuest, Spellcasting 101-301, Eric the Unready...

Oh man, that sucks. I actually have "Death Gate" on CD, thanks for reminding me! :)

I didn't recognize the brand until you mentioned it --yes, would love to see the Legend games come here... who is the best person to get that done?

Ah, deathgate cycle and shannara first two trilogies. Great books, games were ok too. Would be nice to see them here. There ae so many of these games missing currently.

I too have Death Gate on CD. Gameplay-wise it's one of the best adventures I've ever played. All puzzles are solvable with logic alone, though some are quite tough nuts to crack.
I also have Shannara and Eric the Unready. For Legend in their high time were the successor of Infocom. Great depth in combination with great fun.

I've not read Shannara, but the Deathgate cycle is among my favourite fantasy literature, because of the unique premise and main character. The writing style is IMO among the best Weis and Hickman have ever produced.

Wow, do you know I totally forgot about the Discworld series? Some really good games best to remember Pratchett by.

Who the hell owns the right to the Discworld games? And why have I forgotten about Blue Force?

I wish I would have a chance to play Discworld Noir sometimes. I have played the first two Discworld games (borrowed). Sadly I never came across an English version of Noir - I really didn't want to play it in German. Pratchett loses a lot in translation.

OK, the leads to Discworld have some information here. I didn't know about "Blue Force", but looked it up on Wikipedia. I did play one of the Sierra Police Quest games, but didn't get to far in it compared to the others.

It definitely looks like an interesting game, however.

Imagine those old early 90s cop b movies. It's enjoyable and so cheesy that it's awesome.

On another note... have you seen Kung Fury yet? I saw it first mentioned here, managed to contribute a paltry sum to their production in order to see the released version.

I was quite surprised to see it recently appear on Netflix. Amazing.

I watched it and it's freaking awesome.
Most hated: I came to realize that I just don't like FPP adventures, especially not those where you can't move around freely (anything Myst and Myst-derivative, basically). It's a sub category of the genre I just can't warm up to. Every time I try one of those FPP adventures, I end up not having any fun and I didn't finish the vast majority of them, including Myst. The only ones I like in this category are the Tex Murphy games (Under a Killing Moon / Pandora Directive)

Most loved: Anything with item-based puzzles and quality graphics. I love item-based puzzles. Not the lame slider and "abstract experimental machinery in close up view" crap, just good old item on item and item on hotspot combos based on logic. It can be wacky lateral logic but it has to make logical sense somehow.

Some of my favorites in terms of puzzles:

Classics:

-Day of the Tentacle
-Monkey Island 2
-Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
-Simon the Sorcerer 2
-Secret Files: Tunguska

(in this category one may take note of the absence of Sierra titles...)

Newer games:

-Technobabylon
-Resonance
-A New Beginning
-Memoria

Favorites in terms of graphics:

-The Dig
-Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
-Stasis
-Simon the Sorcerer 1 & 2
-The Legend of Kyrandia (some overbearingly strong greens but beautiful nonetheless)
-Quest for Glory 4
-King's Quest 6
-Runaway 1 & 2 (backgrounds only)
-Dark Eye Chains of Satinav and Memoria (backgrounds only)

Special recommendations for special players: (aka masochists)

-Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth
-Discworld
-Floyd

Overall personal favorites:

Classics, without caveats:

-The Secret of Monkey Island
-Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
-Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (played this before seeing the movie and I much prefer it over the movie)
-Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers
-Day of the Tentacle
-Secret Files: Tunguska

Classics, with caveats:

-The Dig
-Blade Runner
-The Neverhood
-Sanitarium
-Syberia 2

Newer games:

-Machinarium
-Fran Bow
-Technobabylon
-Stasis
-The Samaritan Paradox
-A New Beginning
-Primordia
-Resonance
-Gemini Rue
-Memoria
-Blackwell Deception
