First of all, I don't know what you mean by 'current generation of gamer' because my generation is in their forties. Second, the reason why I am considering moving to Steam is because I actually want to move to Linux and Steam is the only platform that actually supports Linux. Why would I keep buying games on GOG if they won't work on my preferred system?

I think that GOG is deliberating ignoring or abandon Linux, many publisher don't think it's worth it to release a game on Linux, it cost money and you don't get it back, dedicate a small team could cost like $20K per month for a grup of people that is really small in comparison, they won't produce money, just losses. You could say that the market of Linux is just 1% of the total of computer and that is still a lot, but that doesn't mean that all those users are gamers and will buy games every month in different stores to keep it going. Many Linux users are used to fix the problems themselves, so I think in the best of cases what GOG should do is to release the source code of the launcher so maybe Linux users can make it one.

I totally agree. GOG should absolutely make Galaxy open source. Problem solved.

On topic. Since I got my Steam Deck I've been exclusively playing on it. I havent used my desktop to play anything for the last 3 months, in fact I've only used my desktop to watch films from various streaming platforms. It kills me that I can't play my GOG collection, since Galaxy doesn't have linux support. I'm still hoping Valve manages to add dual-boot support for windows, as they promised initialy.

Currently it's quite a hassle to manually install games on SteamOS, since using the offline GOG installers, requires you to also manually install the redistributable libraries, the game might need. Good luck finding out what those are since, they're rarely documented.

I'll never understand the motivation behind threads like this.

You choose to purchase from a particular retailer for your reasons, and you also choose not to purchase from a particular retailer for your particular reasons. I don't see the confusion and need for a topic about something that is a personal decision...

...and Microsoft again should start to support this portal much more with new games for this take on Linux users... Unix is for smart people, it's a danger to support smart people, what if they made up their minds?➿ What does it mean "unnecessary drama"? What are "wine leftovers"? How can you tell what one can feel? Nobody understands the lovers. Who feels compassion when one to leave and is there anything to feel or just games... that we play...neigh neigh neigh said unicorn the horn is for the storm you see I catching electricity so I can run like hell and back .. and check it truly what's it got... the future is quite here...will that make you not disappear?

Ancient-Red-Dragon: Question: how come you Linux users don't ask/pressure the devs themselves who make Linux to stop slacking off all these years and finally to make their OS be compatible with PC video games?

Seems like the fact that Linux sucks for gaming is their fault above anyone else's. So surely they should be the ones to fix their own mess at long last?
Because many of the games already have Linux versions which inexplicably aren't published here, and most of the the developer companies I'd ask died around the time Golden Wind was being written.

Plus, we've literally handed GOG several suggestion cards on how to ease the workload off them and to put it bluntly, it almost seems the company loathes the idea of open source software. I've been using Linux about as long as I've been here, you don't think I've been asking for years?

Ugh, my back-neck-shoulders-eyes all ache at this. Probably my ears too.

As for GOG offline installers, they've always done install of the redistributables for me? They're often sub-installers that the installer launches, which may cause problems for the compatibility layer.

Ironically, that last sentence in itself sounds rather melodramatic to me, whether intended or not. Gave me a chuckle, so here I'll try to return the favour, let's have some more theatrics then: Rest assured that if you in particular simply left gog with nary of a word to your fellow goggers, some of us would notice the change immediately. Heck, if i won't see at least a dozen posts with your opinions daily all over the place, I would understand that some great misfortune struck the good ool' breool and would proceed to notify the authorities to check on your well-being. You don't simply leave GOG...Oooh no!

Funnily enough, it wasn't until today that I actually got a stabbing pain in my neck. Considering that I haven't experienced any issues until now, I'm more inclined to believe that I might have slept in a weird position.

If anything, I'm experiencing thumb pains after longer periods of playing, but again that might be because most of my life I've been playing on keyboard and mouse. I hope it's due to me not being used to playing on a controller... or I'm getting too old for it...

It's not just that, the think is huge and stretches smaller hands to use the controls properly. My hands are fairly large and I've looked at the measurements (I had one reserved and may get it around Christmas time, but ultimately $530 was too much for a toy) and it looks pretty uncomfortable for me.
I may end up pairing an external controller if it is supported so I can comfortably play.

I left in spirit soon after GOG tried to bundle the offline installers with Galaxy.
