BreOl72: I understand your mockery regarding the fact, that the Vietnam war was the only one, the US have ever lost.
I also see the possibility, that this historic fact may have an impact on the decisions of US devs/pubs, whether to make such games or not.

One genuine question, however:
what has
1) the US losing a war,
respectively
2) US developers aren't willing to use the scenario
to do with the fact, that there are no more games in the Vietnam setting?

The devs/pubs of "Vietcong" were Czechs.
Well, to be honest, Vietnam setting had some love from devs: SEAL Team, Gunboat simulator, various simulators had missions and campaigns of this period (like Jane's USAF), NAM, Vietcongs 1/2, and missions from Call of Duty Black Ops.

On the other hand we have war in Korea (almost no games at all except simulators and strategy), Grenada and Panama (only one missions in CoD), recent Afghanistan (except MoH2010 and Warfighter which i liked very much!), Somalia (Delta Force Black Hawk Down) and many other periods.

Elmofongo: Now if only people actually played like a fucking team :P
The main problem with MP games, that your comrades try to ruin atmosphere with trolling, metagame knowledge and many other things. Finding a team who interested in ROLE-playing game, not just winning, is almost impossible. MP games started to remind me of such guys as munchkins - not caring for game, only about winning at any cost.

This is why i prefer SP games - i want characters, story and emotions.

BreOl72: I miss games in the Vietnam war setting.

The last really good one was "Vietcong" (the second one was far from its predecessor's near-perfection).

Lately, I discovered the ad for "Rising Storm 2: Vietnam", got very excited - until I noticed, it's online-MP only.

Meh,...

The problem with "Vietcong" is, that I just don't get it to run on my Win10 machine.

I even bought a second version (with the add-on) of it on Ebay, because I thought, the starter (http://www.moddb.com/games/vietcong/downloads/vietcong-starter-1651) would maybe only work with the "Purple Haze" - Edition (Vietcong + Fist Alpha)...but no luck so far - when starting it up, it just gets me a black screen for the fraction of a second - and then it's the desktop again.

I guess, I have to set up my XP machine again, huh?

nightcraw1er.488: Yes, for some reasons the us doesn't produce a lot of games in that era...
A few months ago I developed an interest in Cold War era games. I just got Toy Soldiers. I am also curious about games where you fight Russians in 70's/80's Afghanistan. The only ones I know of are Rambo 3 and Metal Gear Solid V. Maybe Toy Soldiers would have a mission in that setting, I'll see when I get to play it.

Edit: I think the first Black Ops game might have something like that, but I'm waiting for it to go down to $20 or less.

Maighstir: Regarding shooters set in Vietnam, there is , though that regards the French war rather than the American one. The game is also seems very difficult to find now, props to you if you manage to get hold of it.
I have it on Gamersgate: [url=https://www.gamersgate.com/DD-7554/7554]https://www.gamersgate.com/DD-7554/7554 but I see it's not for sale anymore. Do you know what happened to it?

I like the premise of the game, playing the side of freedom instead of American or other imperialists, but the game was hard as hell, even on easy, I couldn't get past the first level.

It is easier to find game where you play on Soviet side:

or

Also, there was extremely interesting (and extremely buggy!) game about PostSoviet SpecOps - Alpha Antiterror:

Second Black Ops, not first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9yoFCxE6r8

First had quite interesting Cold War missions, but event/uniform/weapon aspects is not historically accurate at all. It is James Bond style: nice looking, but completely inaccurate.

Because it might take till elephants turn pink for Call of Duty games to get discounted to reasonable prices for their age, I played most of the CoD games on PS3, where games might be found much cheaper in the second hand shelf. I got Black Ops II out of a 4 PS3 games for 10 euro's bin. The price you have to pay is lesser graphics than you could get on a mid- to high end PC though.

I'm not liking the trend where they try to remedy that with extremely fucking hard games where you have to play 100+ hours just to get good enough to actually manage to survive more than a minute or get a character that can have more than a peashooter equipped. Unless you pay for everything to go faster that is.
I remember playing Gunboat long time ago.
Well, on a serious note cant debug your problem. Does it happen with purple haze - which is also a very good game.

Also, google: Moddb Vietnam, loads of mods for various games.
I have it there as well, but no, I don't know why it was removed. And it was difficult to find even before that with it not being on Steam and Gamersgate being one of very few stores that carried it (at least I think it was on other western stores, can't actually remember now).
